  1. i looked it up on the south african home affairs web site.it doesn't say how,but you have to be authorized by their office.i would contact them. they also advise the laws change quite frequently,so best to make sure of what they say.
  2. correction, our ordainment is recognized by all 50 states.however our right to conduct a legal marrige ceremony is not.most county clerks if you talk to them will tell you that, even when you are leagel in your state. read the pinned section at the top,or better, use that as a start to look at your states laws yourself.
  3. a letter to the states attorney general might be nice,if there is time for that, but it seems to me that the county crook(not misspelled)has to answer to someone local,so they need to be contacted asap.mabye then she could explain her actions to them,or show them where the law says she can do that.
  4. and why does a church need an armory?that one still escapes me.
  5. generally speaking,i don't know of any country outside the united states(and in some states we still aren't allowed)where we would be authorized to preform a marrige ceremony that would be recognized by the government. i would suggest any couple getting married outside the us have a civil ceremony, then if they want, have a"religious"one.most countries have no problem with that.
  6. the last wedding i did in michigan, the couple offered to mail it in for me.i told them just give me the stamp and i'd be glad to do it.they gave me the stamp and a preaddressed envlope.it went in in plenty of time. long story short,i believe the laws of all states require the officiant to return the requried documents to the proper place.if you trust someone else to do it,then go for it.me,i don't.
  7. this might help.in england(as i understand it)and some other countries in europe,a doctor of divinty is the highest degree you can earn when studying for the ministry,or religion.in the us,a dd is honorary no matter where you get it. some colleges and universeities confer a doctor of humain letters to certin vips and big money donors.this is also an honorary degree.
  8. even tho i am buddhist,i prepared one for a women whose beliefs were amish.her family was not sure what that meant, and she really couldn't say before she died. amy long has a book"weddings, funerals, and rites of passage"which covers a few different ceremonies.i don't know that her new book is out yet.there is a ceremony listed in the afore mentioned for"spiritualist"that can be modifed as needed.or you can do as suggested, and just have a party.that's what i've instructed my sister to do.one other thought is the spiritual humanist organization.there should be a group in dallas/ft.worth.
  9. ok,thanks for the correction.i understood certin felonies(child endangerment, attempted murder, those kind of things)were pretty much requried to be reported.i didn't know about military chaplins.makes me wonder what happens if something like that is reported in a privileged conversation.
  10. true.the story is a little different.but in islam, there is only one god,and he is allah.jesus, abraham, moses, jacob, were all prophets in islam, but nothing more. fawzo, where did you find all that?it loks like bin ladens web site.
  11. while i don't consider my practice "spiritual",during meditation,i find it a drastication.but i also find waves coming off the ocean,or a running stream or river(which i'm closer to than the ocean)to be quite calming. as far as music,i have a couple of cds that are all musical.one is called "zen meditations"by timothy franztich.it features chinese flutes, percussion, and"strings".the other one is called"inner peace, music for healing"by the 5th element.it is fantastic to listen to while working on the computer, but it didn't do much for me or my choice of words while doing my taxes recently.i found them both at target for $10.there are a few more i want to get,but have to wait. when just relaxing i like everything from her highness stevie nicks,to italian love songs.i don't speak any latin, let alone understand it,but gregorian chants are great. as far as songs that strike a chord with me,amazing grace as done by the bagpipe and drum corp makes me feel good.ave maria whether sung by a women,or a male tenor is very beautiful(and yes,i have heard it in english, but it loses in the translation).then there's axel rose, and the song he sang(something about paitence)and i can't remember who sings it,but there is a song about nothing lasts forever(including the november rain).rhapsedy in blue is something i used to play while warming up when i studied martial arts.(i got caught"dancing" around one time, didn't get caught again). on my back porch there are 3 sets of wind chimes.during the summer i like sitting out there and just hearing them.if it wasn't for all the traffic,it would be fantastic.
  12. so am i. it's been a long time since i read the koran, but as i remember,it states who the children of the"book" are.while i don't remember all of them, the jews are one.(i can't remember if christians are listed specifically).if memory serves me correct(and it usually doesn't)the koran is one long poem, written by mohammed, while in mecca.the reason for the"children of the book"is because(?)those were the groups living there at the time. i sincerly wish abdullah(no offense if spelled wrong)was still active.he is or was as close to an iman(if he isn't already one)as we have had in a long time.
  13. basically, all states have an exemption in the privileged communications for"ministers",mental health professionals, teachers, counselors, medical personel, and what ever others.in part, you are requried to report child abuse,or suspected child abuse to the authorities.most all states also require this for such things as:threats of harm to others("i'm going to kill so and so")or self, certin other felonies(this varys by state),and in all states, kidnapping or suspected kidnapping(child abduction). while i am NOT an attorney, the post dorian gave sometime back was very clear.the penalties involved can be very strict, and just a"fine"may be the least of your worries.
  14. the last time i got a flu shot was while on active duty. if your employer requries something, and you wish exemption, then you should be able to provide reason, and sign accordlingly.keep in mind not all active duty personal get vacinationed,as some have allergies to it(ie eggs).
  15. my guess, because that's the name kirby hensley gave the church when he started it.and his philosophy was anyone who wanted ordained should be,regardless of faith, belief, philosophy,or religion.if he were alive today, there are some things that would disappoint him(at best),but overall,i think he would be pleased.
  16. or you could say something to the effect of"we are gathered here to witness the reaffirmation of the vows already taken by x+y".right off the bat, that will clear things up.just ask the couple.
  17. you'll know when it's right for you,and then that should silence the worst critic(ourselves).i wish you the best.
  18. generally, the couple must have a license from the state they are getting married in,and if from out of state,be married in the county they got it from. as near as i can tell,as long as your properally ordained(your ordanation is confirmed by hq)you can do the ceremony. i don't know what ky laws are about getting the paperwork back to where it has to go,so you need to check on that.each state is different.
  19. while not from south carolina, michigan has the same wording in it's laws.do they ever check what you preach(teach)?no. some states are very specific about being registered or saying you must have a church or congregation in that state.some citys(new york, las vegas)have the same requirements. don't get so hung up on words that you cause more problems for yourself.remember"gospel"just means"good news".it doesn't say which one.
  20. at the top of this subject is a pinned section which lists the basics of the marrige laws in all 50 states.the only thing i found states that the minister must return the 2 copies of the marrige license(i guess the couple gets the original)to the issuing probate judge.i would suggest that you contact the specific county you will be preforming the ceremony in and see what is requried.
  21. michigan does not allow you(the officant)to keep a copy of the certificate,so we are requried to keep a log.
  22. fyi:ministers do not need to register in indiana(or michigan, illinois, kentucky.ohio is another whole story).if there is any question,it would have to be brought by the couple as the counties and state don't really pay any attention, unless it involves a divorce.
  23. first, step back, take a breath and relax. what you need to do is get your marrige license.what your friend needs to do is register thru here,or at the main ulc website, get his confirmation(usually an email from hq)that he has been ordained and then fill out his part of the marrige license, making sure he gets it back to where it has to go within time limits.now,if you want to pay for his certificate, then go for it.otherwise,he'll get one within 3 months. question for you:you state"i would love for my best friend to marry us".how does your intended feel about this, and does she want to get married?love is a great thing, and marrige can be,but you need to make sure it's what you both want.and just fyi,the wedding day is usually the brides time,so what she wants in a ceremony and such is the rule.your just there as a legality. which part of indiana are you from?
  24. not sure what part of michigan your from, but i live in the"deep south part". rev jerry hit it on the head pretty much.when you inc,you need an employer number for the bank.you just need to have the papers for inc state your real name, your church name, address, yada, yada.on your bank checks, just use dba,and your church name with your real name(and title if you wish).not much to it. keep very close records of everything,as the state of mich makes the irs look like teddy bears.while these are church records,if there is ever a question about finances, you'll be glad you did.also,if you haven't done so all ready, get thee to a good attorney.that is one investment you'll be glad you made.
  25. all i can do is paraphrase fr corey.one can do more physical and mental damage to a person by trying to "exorcise",than if they refered someone to a doctor for a full physical and to make sure there was no chemical imbalance.or the person could have a real psychological problem, best handled by experts. while i'm not a fan of cowboy killers, that answer sounds as good as any.
