everyone takes issue at one point or another with certain individuals and/or groups after identifying the who, its terribly important to consider the why then there is how much space you're going to let that take up and whether you're going to keep your prejudices to yourself or shout them from the rooftops

Memorial Day
grateful replied to RevRainbow's topic in Good Wishes, Gratitude, Blessings and Prayers
thank you to all who have served if I don't find a memorial service here I will, at least in my minds eye, stand on a little tree lined street in pennsylvania with my dog by my side and wave and salute as my father drives by with his post.. -

What Do You Do When You're Not Here?
grateful replied to constantine319's topic in Hobby/Leisure Archive
Welcome (to the madhouse!) Well, I used to work with children as a teacher/interventionist, now I work with dogs (!) Amazing job -which fits easily on my "if you could do anything in the world, what would that be list?" I love the beach, reading, working in my garden, hanging out with my dog, we like to entertain (my better half is a chef, yay!)and hiking with family and friends. I love music and still enjoy a show or two a year. I have a new found love of laying hens, and really enjoy taking care of "the girls", my favorite is a little buff brahmin, abra .. I also love exploring this new part of the country (we just relocated) oh, and I love to go out to lunch, did I mention I love to go out to lunch? -

What Could Cause You To Kill Another Person?
grateful replied to Youch's topic in Philosophy & Theory
I am reading the third book of The Hunger Games, not particularly my style but out of deference to my nephew, I am reading the series so we can talk about it .. It begs the question posed by the op, I think ; that it is kill or be killed? Alas, I have no idea what I would do ultimately, I have never been in a situation even remotely resembling a life or death struggle, though -
I'd consider myself liberal and I don't feel any of the above ..just sayin'. I think most "liberals" are fairly comfortable financially and do not benefit to any great degree from the programs they support (I do understand that your comments are in response to the previous posters, um, analogy (?)

I saw this the other day - absolutely heartwarming I spent half my career working with medically fragile and/or developmentaly different babies and their families .. when I saw an aunt (or other family member) with that kind of determination and love, I knew amazing things would happen for the child

Solidarity! it's a puzzle to me how the average person is so disconnected from what went before - the struggle for fairness and basic rights - and how they are able to align themselves so completely with individuals, government and corporations guided by greed I spend the day remembering, and hoping for a better future and a return to humanity

update new neighbors: this afternoon, an energy shift in the east bay, the dreaded neighbor walks past with two women - who clearly love dogs while I am in the side garden with himself, and as the women fuss and smile they come closer and closer till he sitting and giving them his paw (and a kiss, when requested) needless to say, animosity can be drained away by a charming dog and by people who are not invested in holding on to negativity don't they say a child shall lead them, it might be a dog ....

Modern Or Neo-Paganism
grateful replied to Atwater Vitki's topic in Earth/Nature-Based & Indigenous Religions
it was really a pleasure to read this topic am reminded how much I have in common with many here - atwater's description of what a pagan may ascribe to is spot on for me. I consider myself, and have for as long as I remember, one who follows the old ways I am a Pagan, my belief is as strong as the most devout of any faith -
a very happy anniversary to you and the missus' ! don't know what an ar 15 is ... I hope it is what she's been dreaming of (and not a vacuum cleaner or something)

sb, I think you would REALLY like montessori education .... have you ever looked at it? the problem is that this education is most often afforded only to those with a means to pay (and pay dearly) for it - in direct conflict with dr. montessori's philosophy/pedagogy I might add I knew that my daughter could only be educated in a particular fashion, in montessori and private quaker schools; I believe it is no small part of who she is today (most importantly, kind, and confident in her abilities ...) able to travel widely with confidence and enthusiasm and to totally enjoy her work and I agree, discipline is not a dirty word - it is liberty within limits ( most perfect for the small fry wink)
