  1. they're nice in december, and this is one of my favorites
  2. this is beautiful, you have a gift, thank you
  3. for solstice mward chinese translation http://youtu.be/cUfIKX5ReKQ
  4. there is no emoticon for what I am thinking...
  5. thank you bro kaman for this reminder! (laughing as I recall that I thought tamarack was a shirt (!) from scarborough fair!)
  6. thats very cool, songster; does seem to defy logic that it is merely coincidence my mom died on 8/14 at 8:14. I always thought that was interesting, and I've been known to tell random strangers they should play that number because, you know, what are the chances of even that?
  7. I'm sure the rabbi is grateful that you pointed that out.... happy hanukkah to you and yours, rabbi!
  8. see? they do understand silly hat indeed....poor skank
  9. my current clown prince seems to enjoy "wearing stuff" ala reindeer ears or festive (silly) collars (I have a treasured pic of my now deceased dad and himself wearing reindeer ears with a seriousness that defies logic...) my bear would let me know clearly when she wasn't of a mind, she wasn't interested in dress-up
  10. grateful is clapping again as it should be, my friend the vitki! it's about respect, right? as a woman, I do feel that I have been rendered insignificant simply by virtue of my gender. those who would do so to me personally are usually of little significance and only mildly irritate but the institutionalization of this discrimination has pained me for thirty years, more even and when others are "cut down" in front of me, I'd like to think that I would always use my voice
  11. the trees had broken tree hearts, I'm sure
  12. so very sorry for your loss, friend - sometimes we have to make that dreadful decision to end their suffering; and even though it is a kindness, its incredibly hard what I really wanted to say was thank you, for opening your home and your heart to a little four legged in need - that says something about you revdreed! let the love, kindness and respect that you showed this little one come back to you!
  13. ! I did google it of course.. and though your explanation is almost verbatim, I like it better - and I agree, have fun! someone spoke to this above, the way music can affect you, ala a "knot in the throat", .holiday music is no exception - the reasons why it might effect us are more obvious, love and memories? we were always singing - not always well and in key, but we sang, and loudly I wondered what it was though when I heard a now favorite band from sub saharan africa, tinairwen, I knew the music somehow, and recognized it like an old friend and now I think I'd like to hear nat king cole...
  14. thank you al, but I wanted to see if oldnick would hum! (v.nice though oldnick) p.s. what is zamenhof day or is that a very subtle joke? yes, yes, I know I could google it, but that won't tell me what it is to you... fleet foxes -winter hymnal!
  15. of course, rabbi (and I did not mean to single songster out in any way, other than to offer an opinion on what he had stated here; I'm sure he comes to his conclusions honestly ) still, science and technology offer us some pretty solid proof, as does To'na's personal account here in this thread just sayin'
  16. all lovely.. nat king cole, chestnuts roastin'; I adore god rest ye merry gentleman, songster - I can still hear my parents singing (!) and dar williams, the christians and the pagans has been the holiday anthem at our house for many years...
  17. with all due respect songster, I don't think anyone is looking for your approval here, they understand that you are, of course, free to believe what you choose to believe what they are suggesting perhaps is that there is a tremendous amount of scientific study and citing personal experience to warrant a re-visiting of the popular "homosexual by choice" of popular opinion without exception, my experience with friends in the lgbt community has been that they did not choose, any more than I did; granted, some chose to try "passing" and failed miserably (and unhappily...) they may have chosen to go to medical school, or to the Islands, they may have chosen to avoid tea or diet sodas but choosing their gender identity would be as easy as choosing their eye or skin color this is lovely = you have lucky granddaughters!
  18. I'm so sorry for the loss of your four legged (so sad to lose our loves...) and wish you the very best as you move on!
  19. I am very sorry for your loss - sending you and your family love and light at this difficult time scotty
  20. you lost me with artificial intelligence having "emotional depth"; could you elaborate?
  21. preaching to the choir indeed! (when I get to the east bay you have another stop on the four legged underground railroad, promise)
