  1. OBVIOUSLY, it is the societal ratification of the natural law of freedom. If not that, nothing else could, would or can exist save for the brutality of the "non-peaceful" world of the natural world.
  2. Wow, I liked him. R.I.P. Mr. Fogle..... "Whatever your belief system allows??" Is that where we're at now?? Not sure whether to be embarrassed at such verbiage, or disgusted....
  3. I thought for sure an article about feelings and emotion and sorrow and loneliness would resonate amongst the 12 usual participants of this forum. I only posted it as a result of that assumption. I guess I was wrong. It happens......
  4. It is not impressive when you assert a member is wrong, then when presented with contrary evidence, ignore it. Did you think I would forget? I'm not picking a fight, I just assumed you'd finish the dialog. You still want to assert gravity is not the strongest force in the universe? I hate to say it, but given your proclivities, I must say, PROVE IT. By the way, I learned that gravity is the strongest force in the universe by reading and listening to Hawking. I'm not qualified in any other way to make such an assertion. But argue against him if you must......
  5. Starts about 2:30 into it.....a great piece of guitar music.....
  6. Not sure if I've ever posted in this section before.... Wasn't sure this was the correct section for this article... http://www.independent.co.uk/news/science/extreme-loneliness-worse-for-health-than-obesity-9132031.html Seems good enough a spot to me! I've never understood the feeling of loneliness, but I've always felt sorry for people who experienced it. As a person who enjoys being alone (rarely am I afforded such a luxury), for as long as I can remember I have always been saddened by people who are lonely....less so as I get older. Regardless of the species of animal, a sub-set of each finds themselves on the outside. On the one hand, sad. On the other, that is part of the complex diversity of life. I'm not talking about the mentally challenged, I'm referring to normal life in the food chain.....about half of the male lions born are destined to not be part of a pride.....they are run off, to fend for themselves and as often as not don't find or make another pride. Humans are no different.....bad choices, bad luck, bad breath, whatever....some folks just end up on the outside. On the one hand, sad....on the other, normal. Seems being part of a group extends life expectancy. Perhaps. Makes sense on several levels. What say you?
  7. "Religion and science are opposed....but only in the same sense as that in which my thumb and forefinger are opposed - and between the two, one can grasp everything." William Bragg Love that quote! Thought it applicable to, and perhaps somewhat definitive of, the ULC membership....
  8. I think that is hilarious!! Whether it hot, cold, warm, cool, wet, dry, stormy, arid, soaked, windy or temperate, the global warming crowd finds justification for itself, despite the data and despite the fact the earth has not warmed in 17 years. But I agree with the cosmic yin and yang....for it has far more to do with solar activity than human or planetary activity.
  9. How so, Mr. Tim Bland?? An historic and virtually unprecedented text that (first) promotes the freedom to practice and express religious thought and (second) inspires and liberates millions of humans, is to me sublime. I was asked a question. And I answered it. How can I be wrong in this regard?? Confine me naught in your box. Walk with me outside the normal box and you will be happy, as it is free.
  10. Cool, You still down in Sand Castle Competition territory? I miss that area and those times....
  11. I'm not a scientist, but.... http://www.astro.princeton.edu/~dns/teachersguide/CurveUBkgd.html http://library.thinkquest.org/27930/forces.htm I'm just sayin'.....
  12. Religion versus Science?!?! What is the question, exactly??? The two are different, and similar, all at the same time. Some now even say they agree.......is that your question? (I understand the OP did so 4-5 years ago.....nevertheless).....
  13. Having already posted on the subject, here is another perspective: Why, or how, would something as artifice and "teasing" making you lose your ambition about anything regarding religious motivations? Something, perhaps, many of us can ponder......
  14. Amendment I Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof: or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peacefully to assemble, and the petition the Government for redress of grievances.
  15. I'm not exactly an expert on the subject.....or any other, for that matter..... I am of the understanding, and logical belief, that most religious feeling has as a foundation the predicate of explaining the world around us. Primitive man asked these questions, and shamans and the like, at the time, fabricated explanations and solutions long before science could do so. Their thought was, we (leadership) must have an answer to those question, else the people will find us (leadership) as faulty or inadequate. Not less intelligent, but a far more malinformed version of our current species!! Thus is the origin of religion...furthermore, I would assert it is also the root origin of the progressive political movement!! This to me is as logical as math. Refute, if you desire.....
  16. How/why does gender matter in religion and/or spirituality???
  17. Stephen Hawking agrees with me: http://blogs.reuters.com/faithworld/2010/09/02/god-did-not-create-the-universe-gravity-did-says-stephen-hawking/
  18. Not incorrect at all......gravity has shaped our entire universe, the shape of solar systems and the planets and the dark matter in between. Nothing has shaped our galaxy, or our universe, more than gravity. Don't take my word for it (nobody does), look it up yourself!! That you can jump does not defy this at all, and does not prove love is more powerful than gravity. You think love shapes planets? What do you suppose shapes galaxies? Hint: gravity.......
  19. Mule fritters..... They area highly watched and highly rated show based on their viewership, which is making the network historic amounts of money. How stupid is it, that the network would then, based on pressure from people WHO DO NOT WATCH THE SHOW, curtail certain parts of the show based on hyper-emotional, politically correct, intolerant view points of people completely disassociated from the show? Libs, of course!!! Hopefully, A&E loses their shorts on this intolerance (and their caving to a fraction of the populace) and the Duck people (I've never watched it) find obvious profit elsewhere. How intolerant the Left is all the time.......
  20. Haven't humans progressed beyond such paganism?? I mean, you are referencing a pre-religion belief systems, right??? Part of me does believe in the worship of nature, but for so many that gets confused with modern complications..... I could explain upon request....
  21. The holiday is derived from the Holy Day, so while it has become much commercialized, it is nevertheless a sacred day for much of the world, whether we emotionally or spiritually relate or not, since it is such a powerful source of modern freedom, it nevertheless remains a strong source of liberty for so many humans on earth. Sad that so many others feel differently......
