When it comes down to it, being a minister can mean anything the minister wishes it to be.

Modern Or Neo-Paganism
Brother Kaman replied to Atwater Vitki's topic in Earth/Nature-Based & Indigenous Religions
I am not of the Abrahamic religions nor am I of an ethnic or indigenous religion. What others call me is their label not mine. As long as I am not called late for dinner I am ok. -
One Of The Worst Things To Face
Brother Kaman replied to Raincloud's topic in Stories & Texts Archive
I see no problem in putting myself first. It is when I don't have anyone in second, third, fourth, fifth, etc. that it becomes a problem. -
Rest In Peace Nelson Mandela
Brother Kaman replied to grateful's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
May you find rest and be at peace, Nelson Mandela -
The only ministers that I am aware of that never have emotional troubles from time to time, are figments of my imagination. To me, selfish is not sharing what you have with those who are without. What is not selfish is placing yourself first and foremost so that you will have something to share with those who are without.

Price You Pay
Brother Kaman replied to VonNoble's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
Had myself a second had store once. It was quite lucrative at the time. I often came into possession of holy books of different religions including the Holy Bible. I also managed to get quite a stock of American Flags. I came by these things from buying a pallet of boxes of junk at auctions and if I could find one or two things of value in the boxes, it would pay for the entire pallet and anything else sold out of them would be profit. I never sold a holy book or an American Flag. If a customer expressed an interest in any of those items I would give it to them. That is the same as my ministry. My religion is not an evangelistic one so not too many people know that I am a minister. Of those who do, when asked I minister without cost to anyone. Ministry for profit or self-benefit (other than the warm fuzzies), to me, is a prostitution of my soul. -
Boundaries For Toxic People
Brother Kaman replied to VonNoble's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
I cannot agree, Atwater Vitki. The only one that matters is the hospice patient. All the rest is just feel good stuff for the living. Let the fact that the living are living be enough feel good stuff for them. -
I am sorry for your loss. I will keep you and your family close in my thoughts and meditations.

Do You Believe In Reincarnation?
Brother Kaman replied to Enkidu's topic in Eastern Religions & Philosophies
I know that we are all immortal and cannot be destroyed just as any matter or energy cannot be destroyed. As for being reincarnated into another conscious, living body, only time will tell and we will not likely be able to make any judgement about it should it happens in any case. -
Hymn (Song) And Artist
Brother Kaman replied to VonNoble's topic in Creative Expression & Cultural Arts
I have left instructions for Simon and Garfunkel's "Greatest Hits" album be played while the children and grandchildren sit around the table, drinking beverages of their choice and tell lies about what a wonderful person I am/was. Otherwise, I am to be cremated as soon as my body can be legally released for such purposes. No services, just Simon and Garfunkel, drinks and lies. -
A Case For Disposing Of Virginity As A Life Marker
Brother Kaman replied to kokigami's topic in Philosophy & Theory
Unless one is to remain celibate their entire lives, losing one's virginity will always be a life marker just as all "firsts" are. Whether or not we can agree on the connotations of our life markers, is another thing. -
How Long And How Much Music
Brother Kaman replied to VonNoble's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
Interesting how many people like to have their worship so organized and neatly wrapped up and presented to them. -
So murder is murder but can become evil if enough are murdered? Or perhaps it becomes evil if the certain persons are murdered (children)? Or perhaps it is the motivation for the murder? It is bad behavior on a grand scale but not evil. Evil is a religious concept tied to "sin." Calling an act "evil" helps us to grasp the horror of an event.

It has been my experience that those who adhere to a sacred text and have not read all or part of the document and do not understand the part or parts they have read, don't really care. They are in it in order to fit into the social group they have chosen to belong to. If the leader of their faith (pastor, rabbi, mullah, etc.) says it is so, then it must be. That is if the person even cares if it is so or not.

"box Top" Ordinations
Brother Kaman replied to Atwater Vitki's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
If I ever cared what people think of me or what I stand for, I would have never sent in the Ovaltine box tops to get my "Captain Midnight Decoder Ring." That could have gotten me laughed out of school had I cared enough to let it bother me.- 23 replies

It is interesting that when something unusually good happens, without explanation, it becomes a miracle and when something unusually bad happens it becomes evil. Things happen. Somethings are unusually good and some are unusually bad. Some are without explanation mostly due to our limited understanding, so we must blame it on God or Satan or something in order for our minds to grasp it.

Good and bad are just two ends of the same teeter totter. What promotes the passing on of our DNA is considered "good." Those things that would endanger our DNA's future are considered "bad." That is basically what society bases its laws and taboos on. Evil is a concept of religion.

"Teach a man to fish..." is a metaphor meaning teach a man to take care of himself. I believe there are enough resources for that to happen.

I would be willing to pay for the education myself if I had the money and if I could collect the savings that would come due for not having to have the person go thru the expensive legal system and wind up in prison again at a huge expense. It is not like the prisoners are going to the finest schools and living in wonderful dormitories. If the ex convict does not re-offend and remains out of prison, the price of educating the convict is quite small in comparison to housing him/her again.

We, all of us, are continually making judgments about those around us. I have nerve damage that has left me with a numb foot and often causes me to stagger like a drunk. I am surprised that I have not been asked to leave various business establishments because of it. I often tell my wife that I must look like a drunk to most people. I am aware of what they could think about me but since I am aware of the truth of the matter, I do not let it bother me. No one, as yet, has accused me of being a drunk (at least to my face) so why should I care what they think in their private thoughts?

An educated convict is less likely to re-offend when released back into society. A "free" education is a small price to pay to keep someone out of prison. Personally, I don't think anything can possibly be "free" to someone who lives imprisoned.
