  1. Actually yes. I have called your expertise into question and you have provided no proof of your said expertise. You can tell me you're the fire chief all day long but until I see a badge and an ID stating you are a fire chief you have no more standing as an expert than Joe Schmoe. If you are a part of academia you would know that, when I asked if you were published I wasn't referring to a post on a forum.
  2. Wouldn't that be argumentum ad verecundiam, also called the appeal to authority, setting yourself up to be the authority? First off, I don't think anyone here has seen your said degree. Secondly, even if you do have said degree that doesn't make you an authority. Are you published? If so where can I read some of your works? I don't think I've seen anyone tick so many members of this forum off in so little time. Even the highly obnoxious Gnostic Bishop took longer than four days. I've said what I came to say, you may now continue with your I'm Holier than all of you, I'm smarter than all of you, I'm more educated than all of you expression of your greatness. Carry on.
  3. I used to have to use satellite internet (Hughes Net). I agree, it was crazy expensive and extremely low download allowance (then we were throttled to about twice dialup speed). I recently found a local carrier (I think they said they use radio waves) that i switched to that offers unlimited download for a lot less (they are called Maximum Broadband). Granted my download speeds are slower (4 Mbps now vs 15Mbps with sat) but we had a 15GB download limit with satellite and last month we used 185 GB with the new plan and no throttling.
  4. The CJB is a messianic translation so it may or may not point to what RabbiO was getting at. Isaiah 45:7 (CJB) 7 I form light, I create darkness; I make well-being, I create woe; I, Adonai, do all these things. Other texts I like to read alongside the KJV are the Common English Bible, Isaiah 45:7 (CEB) 7 I form light and create darkness, make prosperity and create doom; I am the Lord, who does all these things. and the Amplified Bible (which often expands on some of the wording). Isaiah 45:7Amplified Bible (AMP) 7 The One forming light and creating darkness, Causing peace and creating disaster; I am the Lord who does all these things. Of course I also go to the Strongs Hebrew concordance whenever I'm trying to understand particular words that may have multiple possible translations. Isaiah 45:7 (Hebrew) evil: 7451 ra` rah: from 7489; bad or (as noun) evil (natural or moral):-- adversity, affliction, bad, calamity, + displease(-ure), distress, evil((- favouredness), man, thing), + exceedingly, X great, grief(-vous), harm, heavy, hurt(-ful), ill (favoured), + mark, mischief(-vous), misery, naught(-ty), noisome, + not please, sad(-ly), sore, sorrow, trouble, vex, wicked(-ly, -ness, one), worse(-st), wretchedness, wrong. (Incl. feminine raaah; as adjective or noun.).
  5. Hi Windwalker, Thanks I appreciate that. Yes the Pulpit area is a place to "preach and teach" with no comments allowed. (usually) But yes, this was the best way to respond to a post from the pulpit. I remember the social media post and thought it was a touching story. I absolutely agree with your point. We should always approach people with respect and courtesy. You never know what that person may say or do that could be a message for you, from God that you need. I'd like to take full credit for the message but I have to admit it was a Jewish Rabi who got me to catch that the word used for messenger in the Esau/Jacob story was the same word that was translated angel elsewhere..
  6. I agree with mark 45. IMHO a church would be a group (whatever size) coming together to study and learn religious principles, ancient stories and the lessons to be learned ..... A ministry to me would be more of following your intended purpose. Whether that be to evangelize, or to feed the poor, or give battered woman safe a place to go, help the disabled........ To me, even running a business or digging a ditch can be seen as a ministry if that is your call to make the world a better place.
  7. Five just isn't enough; My beautiful wife whom I love and who loves me. My great children and their spouses. My fantastic grandchildren. My great grandchildren to come. All of our animals. Our very productive garden. Our little orchard. This wonderful property of ours. The community that we live in. Grace ..................
  8. I'm not sure about this particular forum (It's been a long time since I joined), but the TOS of most forums that I've read have something in there about anything you post becomes the property of that forum. JS When you agree to the TOS you agree to that term.
  9. This came across my Facebook feed this morning. I just thought it might fit well into this discussion. What is a Soul
  10. Well I'm not seeing a like button either. I can see where 1 person likes this but no button to like a post. I've hoovered my mouse over the entire right portion of several posts and I'm just not seeing it.
  11. I think there may be some confusion as to what a soul is. I'm not going to try to speak for all Christians here however, from what I've been taught just as God is a triune being so too is man. The human experience is encompassed in three ways. Body, soul and spirit. When I was younger I thought soul and spirit were just different words for the same thing. Many Christian scholars have defined the three as being different aspects of our being. As I understand it, the body is just a vehicle through which we experience the world. The key components of the body are the five senses. The soul is what makes us all different individuals. The soul is said to consist of the mind, will and emotions. The spirit is the part of us that was breathed into us by God. The spirit may be said to be made up of your intuition (sensitivity to the Holy Spirit), conscience (determining right from wrong) and communion (with God). When looked at in this way it can be said with certainty the soul does exist. We have a mind, will and emotions.
  12. Yes sometimes it is difficult to assess a persons motivation for saying certain things online. I try to read a smile into some things, but there are times when I just don't see it. I can usually take a jab as well as give one. It is only when it starts to seem rude, crude, or mean-spirited that I take issue. Usually I will just ignore those people from that point forward. Occasionally I may take the first shot .... but it is usually with someone I believe will see the humor. If I trade jabs with someone I hope they feel comfortable enough talking to me that they can realize it's just all in good humor. If I have offended anyone here I sincerely apologize.
  13. So sorry to hear of his passing. I always liked Atwater Vitki. Prayers for his family.
  14. I first thought of Alice Cooper. But I'm a little old. My sons would have probably thought of Marilyn Manson. IMO he's definitely looking to draw his following from the Goth crowd. Yeah, there are probably enough people looking for that type of shepherd. That video only has a little over 400 likes out of ~4000 views.... still, that's a lot of people that seem to be buying what he's saying. SMH
  15. Well it looks like we are the only ones who were able to watch this guy. Yep BS detector. IMO he starts out ok but quickly loses credibility. Since I don't practice that kind of math I can neither confirm nor disprove his conclusion but it seems to me that there should be 42 blackboards full of math before that could be arrived at.
  16. This came across my Facebook this evening. If you can sit through this I'm interested in hearing your comments. I'll hold my thoughts for now so as not to influence anyone. Soul Equation
  17. No, and since you seem to be a reasonably intelligent person I'm amazed that you missed the analogy. Just as you would not attempt to prove that molecules exist without the tools needed to do so, I will not attempt to prove Gods existence without the tools necessary to experience Him. You cannot prove there are other galaxies without tools You cannot prove radio waves exist without tools You cannot prove bacteria exist without tools Why would a reasonably intelligent man expect someone to prove God exists if he refuses to use the tools?
  18. So how do I know these "pictures" of molecules are real? I can make something that looks exactly the same in my photo editing software. Now I'm not saying that they were faked, I'm just saying that I could fake them if I tried. I believe they are real ... but I have not been given any proof that they are real. I have not seen the machinery, I have not verified the results. We all believe a lot of things that we have not taken the time and effort to seek proof of. If I had to research the validity of everything I wouldn't have time to anything. What I'm getting at is this; Tools Tools, Tools, Tools Without a microscope we would have no proof of the invisible world of virus, bacteria, cells, molecules......... Without a telescope we would have no proof that the lights we see in the night sky are not all just stars and planets but also galaxies nebulas comets and the likes. Without books you would have to learn everything through your own experiences. Yet you ask for proof that God exists while you refuse to use the tools that are necessary to obtain that proof. Prayer being the primary tool needed to experience communication with God. The Holy Scriptures being the books written about others experiences with God. The Holy Spirit being a guiding force to lead us to a relationship with the great God YHWH. My challenge to you is to provide proof that molecules exist without the writings of men or any tools such as a(n) (atomic force) microscope. I'm not trying to be antagonistic, but rather, I'm trying to show you my perspective when someone asks for proof of God but refuses to accept the use of the proper tools needed to see those proofs.
  19. Interesting position. That statement suggests, to me, that, for you, molecules and atoms did not exist until recently. I say did not because it wasn't until 2013 that the first "picture" of a molecule was ever produced. First-ever high-resolution images of a molecule. We had lots of drawings but no actual pictures. We took it on faith in the scientific community that molecules and atoms were real. I'm fairly sure that is not actually the case. You likely believed scientists were right even though the best they could do was draw pictures of what they believed molecules and atoms looked like.
  20. Yes cuchulain, as far as I can remember even when we have disagreed it's always remained friendly.
