RevRainbow
I found this most enjoyable and would like to share with you. I especially like the term: "You dont have to be wrong for me to be right." And the other way around. The title is "The rabbi and the Christian cab driver." Enjoy. constantine319
on a related note - I think some of you may laugh at this - I saw this article linked in the 'similar' area of the above post. please ONLY read if you are prepared to laugh!!! http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/health/2012/04/26/logic-linked-to-religious-disbelief-study-implies/And I quote; In the first of five tests, people who solved a math problem analytically rather than arriving at the intuitive answer were more likely to report religious disbelief. For example: A bat and a ball cost $1.10 in total. The bat costs $1.00 more than the ball. How much does the ball cost? The intuitive answer is $0.10; the analytic answer is $0.05.I had to stop reading after that. I'm all for educating and facts and all that good stuff, but really? I think the wording of the question leaves it too open to interpretation. IMO to test someone's logic, you have to give someone a perfectly logical question. Otherwise you're testing their language skills and that's a WHOLE different can of worms.
Bro. Hex
I hate to admit it, but I immediately came up with the "intuitive" answer of 10 cents for the ball, and even after reading that the analytical answer was 5 cents, I was puzzled as to why. Finally I realized that if the Bat cost was 1 dollar, and the ball cost was 10 cents, then the bat would only be 90 CENTS more than the ball. I think that this was a legitimate test of logical reasoning (which I failed!)
Dorian Gray
I had to try and figure out how someone came up with 10 cents
Kingfisher
My intuitive response was to analyze the study.http://www.timescolo...9861/story.htmlhttp://www2.psych.ub...ic Thinking.pdfI liked the first story in this thread better. We don't have to be wrong for them to be right. Edited May 23, 2012 by Kingfisher

I think that this was a legitimate test of logical reasoning (which I failed!) I got to that part, too, which was equally embarrassing, I just found it kind of questionable that just because someone's initial response to a situation is intuitive doesn't necessarily mean they're not logical. I dunno that I'd base my whole scientific study off of that I did really enjoy reading this article, Kingfisher, thank you for sharing that (http://www.timescolonist.com/life/Faith+logic+exist+study+contends/6649861/story.html)

RevRainbow
That's your opinion, but you dont have to be wrong. What about Art? Music? TV shows? Movies? Food? Clothing? Having pets? Teacher evaluations? Jobs? Governments? Political parties? You say you like it and I hate it. Nope, I say the situation is true in a lot of instances, including responding to your post. Peace. Edited May 24, 2012 by RevRainbow
Dan56
I guess when it comes to not judging others, understanding others, and having compassion for others, there is no wrong. Fortunately, the Rabbi had a better understanding of the cabbies situation than his own minister who advised him to dump the wife who loved and stood by him. Some things are a matter of fact and can be right or wrong, but most things are a matter of taste, opinion, preference, and common sense. Its probably why God insist on being the judge, its a job that's slightly out of our realm of expertise. Edited May 24, 2012 by Dan56

Political parties? You say you like it and I hate it. Nope, I say the situation is true in a lot of instances, including responding to your post. Peace.Yes, my opinion. I base that on fact and logic. Of course, this does not apply to things as art or entertainment, as you rightly suggest. But ideology and philosophy is not "art or entertainment." You then mentioned political philosophy.......and there is where you stray out of your comfort zone. Political philosophy can EASILY be defined as right and wrong, good and bad. Isn't that obvious? Show me where in the world and when in history has liberalism EVER created prosperity??? It does not benefit humanity, as the politicians like to smear, but instead it only creates dependents, drones, functionaries, voters, and the like. If you want to carry this debate to it's ultimate conclusion, lets do it. My philosophy takes nothing from you.....perhaps your's takes much from me.....more to the point, it takes much from future generations.....generational theft. Good on ya....And lets consder this......libs are entirely anti-human/child.....pro-abortion, putting massive debt on our children, stealing from future gerentations....what, you hate our progeny???....maybe atheistic and socialist in origin, perhaps..... but to say that "you don't have to be wrong for me to be right" is ridiculous. Right and wrong are things of morailty, not style (as you suggest in you citation of art and movies and inane television, etc...) Moraility and ethics matters.... not politics!!!
