Prayers Before Meals
emalpaiz replied to VonNoble's topic in Good Wishes, Gratitude, Blessings and Prayers
I say a silent prayer before meals. Nobody has to know about my spirituality. Hermano Luis -
I learned when I was very young that the past has substance, but no reality; that the future has no substance and no reality; that only the present has substance and reality. I do not think that anyone can see into the future. Hermaon Luis Moriviví Hermitage

Very good, Sephyra Mydnight! The One has been known by the Sages of different spiritual traditions by different Names. So says the Rig Veda the oldest book of my spiritual tradition. One of our modern Sages, Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa (1836-1886), said that there are many paths that lead to the One. Those who have not matured spiritually are the ones who insist that only they have the truth. Those who think that way -- sadly to say -- are a lot of people in our world. But we must continue to advance in our chosen path with Understanding, Love, and Compassion (ULC). It is good that you are here. I pray that we will be able to read more of your thoughts. I am actually reading three books right now: two on the religious philosophy of the Radha-Soami contemplative system, and the other on Christianity. It is this second book that has caught my attention. It deals with the inner life of Mother Teresa of Calcutta. The name of the book is " Mother Teresa; Come Be My Light: The Private Writings of the 'Saint of Calcutta.' " I have just begun chapter 4, and already the book has shed a lot of light on the inner life of Mother Teresa. Even though I am not a Christian, the book has already given me some light on my own spiritual path. Ever since I heard of Mother Teresa I have taken a deep interest in her life. The book enlightens our understanding of the the Dark Night of the Soul as seen through the life of Mother Teresa. Even though the concept "Dark Night of the Soul" was pressented to the world by St. John of the Cross, it is a concept that has been known by mystic contemplatives of different religious traditions. I think that it is a book that should be read by all sincere contemplative mystics and minister-priests of different spiritual traditions. Hermano Luis Moriviví Hermitage -
Because you are not a Hindu. Precisely what I was trying to say: 108 has a lot of meaning for me, but it has no meanig for you; 666 has no important meaning for me, but has a lot of meaning for the Christian world. JimBob did a marvelous research. In the Hindu pantheon, everyone of the Divinities has at least 108 Names. It is considered auspicious to repeat the 108 Names of you chosen Deity. It is also considered auspicious to repeat you chosen Mantra (sacred word or prayer) at least 108 times a day. The spiritual meaning of numbers is a cultural thing of our respective religions. Many religions hold certain numbers to have meaning; 666 has no meaning for me, but 108 (1,008or 10,008; etc) has some meaning. But it is my understanding that numbers in themselves have the meaning we give them. Just my thoughts. Hermano Luis Moriviví Hermitage

Pray For My Aunt, Uncle And Cousin

I have put your family in my prayers. OM Peace Amen! Hermano Luis -
In the Sanatana Dharma there is a school of spiritual devotion called Bhakti Yoga. In said school we convert our human love into love for God. We learn to love God as we love our Mother or Father; as a Mother or Father loves his/her child; as a servant loves his/her good master; as a lover loves his/her beloved; as a husband or wife loves his/her spouse. It is said that God receives all these forms of love as special offerings to Him/Her if offered with sincerity and faith. The Beloved One says, "Whatever I am offered in devotion with a pure heart -- a leaf, a flower, fruit, or water -- I partake of that love offering. Whatever you do, make it an offering to me..." (Srimad Bhagavad Gita 9:26-27). Hermano Luis Moriviví Hermitage

My spiritual path is ot Bible centered, but I enjoy reading the Bible -- as well as other Sacred Books -- to expand my understanding. I have various translations. My favorite version of The Tanakh (a.k.a. The Old Testament) is one by The Jewish Publication Society (1985). The Christian Testament tha I use has both The Apocrypha and the New Testament. It is an edition from the Revised English Bible (1989, by the Oxford University Press and theCambridge University Press). I also use two Spanish translations which I have found to be very good. I recently finished reading "The Jesus Dynasty" [iSBN-13:978-0-7394-7508-9] by James D. Tabor. The book is centered on the search of the historical Jesus and His family. Much of the author's work is based upon archeological research and scriptural comparisons. I found the book to be very interesting even though I did not agree with some of the author's conclusions. I had done some previous research -- very limited research -- and had reached some of the same conclusions as the author. I strongly recommend this book to those who are interested in the search for the historical Jesus Christ. I have also read another interesting book "READING JUDAS: The Gospel of Judas and the Shaping of Christianity" [iSBN 978-0-670-03845-9] by Elaine Pagels and Karen L. King. It is a well written and scholarly book that can be read by the lay person. It expands our understanding of the early years of Christianity and the many conflicts within the new "Church." The second part of said book has a translation of the "Gospel of Judas." I found the book to be very interesting and of great value to those who are interested in the early history of Christianity. Both books are very serious, and they do not pretend to teach theology or change any religious doctrines. Hermano Luis Moriviví Hermitage -

I have just finished reading "The Shadow of Solomon" (ISBN 0 00 721660) by Laurence Gardner. The book is about Freemasonry and pretends to reveal the true secret of Freemasonry. The book is very interesting for those interested in the history of Freemasonry and the history of England and Scotland. It links Masonry to the Knight Templars, the Alchemists of the Middle Ages, the Rosicrucians, the Stwarts, etc. For non-Masons the book can be somewhat confusing, and for Masons there are some interestings issues. There are also some interestings facts about Masonry and the history of the United States. In the end he essentially states that the secret of Masonry is Science. As a Freemason I can accept many of the things he states throughout the book, but I find that many of his conclusions lack sufficient proof. But it was an interesting book. I have always enjoyed science fiction. There are three books that I have always treasured: "The Word for World is Forest" "The Left Hand of Darkness" (Winner of the HUGO and NEBULA AWARDS for best science fiction novel.) "The Dispossessed" All three books were written by Ursula K. Leguin. -

I just started "Jesus and the Lost Goddess" (ISBN 1-4000-4594-0) by Timothy Freke & Peter Gandy. I am also re-reading "The Inner Life of Krishnamurti" (ISBN0-8356-0781-X) by Aryel Sanat. It would seem that both books are not related, but in reality they are. Both deal with the concept of "perennial philosophy."
