I know many of these type of lists contain information that can easily be explained away, but as you've stated they contain some valid points as well. BTW - Glad to see you're ok a few of us were worried about you lately. It is rather silly and seedy of me to post such a list without checking the sources, but it seemed an appropriate repsonse in my feeble mind to Dan's claim there were no theological contradictions in the Bible. I was a bit dizzy after the backflip I did when reading his post . Why does he think so many Christian denominations exist if there aren't any theological differences in the Bible. once again I'm very happy your ok!!!

The Urantia Book
Fawzo replied to Brother Michael Sky's topic in Creative Expression & Cultural Arts
Yes according to Michael's logic I should believe every word in the book based on some stranger's word before even reading the book. Jim Jones, Heaven's Gate etc etc etc come to mind. <insert Jaws dramatic sounds here> -
I think your argument is falsified by the thousands of Christian denominatiosn which all claim to have the Holy Spirit and the truth. There would be no delusions of the truth if what you said is tue unless you are claiming you and your denomination are the only one which truly has the Holy Spirit of God within them. Dan please explain to me how an Omniscient being sacrifices his own life? He always was and always will be, their is no sacrifice of life merely the illusion of such. God could not and did not die on ay cross. Energy can never be created or destroyed, nor could God. It was a play if you will, the PAssion Play. The nile has never dried up and I'll post a list of other failed Bible Prophecies later. I'm getting ready for work righ at the moment. I'm biting my tongue on this one.

The Urantia Book
Fawzo replied to Brother Michael Sky's topic in Creative Expression & Cultural Arts
Every believer on the planet could make that very same claim about their revered and sacred texts. Your claim is no more valid then theirs and it sounds to me as if your text fails the close scrutiny tests just as theirs do. Truth should be self evident. -

Ok I saved the link and will give it a try, but any people wearing fig leaves or Tower of Babel type stories and I guess I'll have to throw my PC in the trash lol -
The Urantia Book
Fawzo replied to Brother Michael Sky's topic in Creative Expression & Cultural Arts
Ok I tried to start reading more in the book of Urantia after I was first put off on my original attempt by the mentioning of Adam and Eve. This time I thought I would read some quotes by topic and chose evolution and the first quote I read about no evolutionary process being by chance turned me off immediately once again. That pretty well buries any interest I most likley will have in this topic. I gave it one more chance than I did the Koran which I threw in the trash on my original opening which found me reading that women were half as good as men. I guess I expect my books based on truth to hold self evident truths and no bull. -
Well then Dan, I and many like me are more loving and compassionate than your God, for if you blaspheme against me out of ignorance or anger and later recant you need not even bother to ask forgiveness except for your own mental health, because in my mind there was nothing for you to be forgiven for. Your delusions of the truth of who and what I am are your own and do not reflect the actuality or truth of who or what I am in even the slightest. If I am even offended in the slightest then I must not be secure in the knowledge of who and what I am. Am I also more secure in my self knowledge than your God. Wow seems to me I'm more loving, forgiving, tolerant and have a higher self esteem than your deity if that is even possible for a human to succeed an Omniscient being. What we have are the embellished redacted apocalyptic writings from a culture that believed in a lot of myths. We have failed prophecies and a barbaric society that thought it was sometimes ok to kill adulterers, disobedient children, people who worked the Sabbath, slaves because they were your property, pimp their daughters and occasionally kill all their surrounding neighbors when their was a shortage of reality. Not to mention the inhumane and hoorific treatment of animals because they wrongly thought their Deity was thrilled and delighted with such sacrifices. They thought the earth was flat and immovable and unshakeable unless God got angry and that there were storehouses in the sky for the winds. The firmanent which they imagined seperated heaven from earth and was a hammered out plate. They imagine a heaven above and a hell below within the bowels of the earth. All the ignorant writings of ignorant men. What we do have factual evidence of is that early Christians would lie, forge and say and do anything to get people to believe that the Son of Man was going to return in their lifetimes. Just one of many failed prophecies contained within the pages of the Bible.

Read the vers again Dan. Acts 13:39 is specifically speaking against the weakness and corruption of the Law of Moses and how that now we have a superior agent In Jesus Christ who through belief in ALL are justified from ALL things. A clear theological contradiction to Mark 3:29 (KJV "But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation: " But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption. 38 Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins: 39 And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses. Acts 13:37-39 (KJV) I also wanted to bring up a concession you made earlier "The authors were not concerned with getting the sequence of events entirely accurate, since they never intended to write a chronologically perfect history book" No Dan they weren't writting a History book, just merely the alleged prefect Will and Word of God. No need for the Holy Spirit to give them the factual details event by event or word by word as that would merely get in the way and stop from causing all those wars and mass murders in the name of God. Such contradcitions are clear cut evidence the writers were not eyewitnesses and we'ren't writing through Holy Spirit dictation as many believe. They were writting the second or third hand testimony of mortal me who heard stories from others, and these others colored their stories from their world view and the writers further colored them through the lenses of their enculturnated belief systems. A far far cry from the word of any intelligent deity I must say. Especially an omniscient one who would know beforehand of the horror and bloodshed that would result from him being the "author of confusion." "Truth" is pretty self evident once the facts are made clear Dan. The Bible just doesn't seem to fit into that hole without a whole lot of contortions and jack hammering from my standpoint.

Maybe as a free man not as someones slave to be tourtured whenever one uses their own free will. They should have been there or at least had scouts returned with the good news of finding the land days before they even turned into idolators. There is no evidence the story ever even happened. Or retarded by not being given full cognitive abilities. And once again God knows this before it takes place and you were even born, according to the Bible. Thats how he wrote the names in the Lamb's Book of life which is sealed. Of course you don't. Your mind is behaving just as sciecnce predicted it would. The Gospel of John has Jesus performing miracles and selecting apostles and even baptizing people the same time as John the baptists a few days after his own baptism and the Synoptics Gospel tell us Jesus didn't even begin his ministry or select an apostle until after his 40 day temptation in the desert and John was imprisoned. Even the manner and order of the selection of the apostles is different but still you see no problems, the reason being is because then the credibility of the Gospel of John is ruined and your whole belief systems falls like a deck of cards and you can't have that. You ca't be like all the others on the planet and not have the truth secured. Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. 28 Father, glorify thy name. John 12:27-28 (KJV) said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it? John 18:11 (KJV) Far cry from the man sweating blood and upset< Notice there is no agony in the garden or 40 day temptation of Jesus in John;s superman portrayal of Jesus. And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt Mark 14:35-36 (KJV) You need to read it that way to avoid the obvious contradiction. Shouldn't God and the Holy Spirit had rendered this more clearly and understandable even if you're version is correct, which I doubt anyone would comprehend when reading originally as it makes no sense. If he were in such a hurry to visit the Father he wouldn't have been waiting around the tomb all morning. Also how does one physically hold and deter a Spirit with your hands. Your mind is rationalizing once again.

Why would you think the death of a soul is not a good thing. If having to watch one's every conscious thought as to not anger your God eternally seems like hell to some and the death of a soul would be a welcome release for some from such torture. That was most likely a Volcano which man in his ignorance labeled as Deity. The people worshiped the calf because the trip from Egypt to the promise land should have taken 4 days and how long were they suffering in the desert before they worshipped the calf. Many of them most have thought Moses and his God needed a GPS and some of the volcanic fumes were causing Moses problems. Can you tell me where anything in our World exhibits other worldly awe and splendor which can't be explained away as a normal function of our Universe. Maybe like text messages displayed across our Sun with a continuous reading of John 3:16. That would work for most I do believe. Yes when you clearly tell a 6 month old baby not to eat the candy and they will die and someone else tells them eat the candy it tastes so good. The baby is at fault?!?!?! Who left the candy out in the first place and left the child un-supervised and who didn't protect their house properly from the enemy having access to their children. Most would call that person a MORON! There is no need to test our love. He knows our hearts and needs even before we ask for something. He created Yeshua as the propitiation for sin before he fused two hydrogen atoms together to make helium and laid the foundations for the earth. And there is also willful ignorance, and as scientists have tested and shown through brain research when people of a belief system are present with FACTS which are contrary to that individuals belief system they stop using the cognitive portion of their brains and use their emotional areas when making a response. I think the different designations of Synoptic amd Gnostic Gospel that seperates John's from the other three accepted canonical Gospel by the vast majority of highly educated Bible scholars make the factual point that there are differences quite easy for all to see. Just read John and the others and see what Jesus was doing three days after his baptism and whether John the Baptist was in prison or not when Jesus began his ministry. See if Jesus prayed for the cup to pass him by even to the point of sweating blood or as John states he scoffed at such an idea. Did the women rush and grab Jesus by his feet when they saw his ressurected body or did Jesus forbid such as in John. Just a few of many to jog your memory. Some of these things may seem trivial but thay all speak of credibility. If you can't trust someone with the small details you sure as heck cant trust them with whether Jesus claimed to be God.

Yes the whole concept of God's adversary Satan was created to try to explain away the pain and suffering that permeates our world, to make the wishful concept that God was both Good and Omniscient seem more true. An example: A man has his 6 children and pets in a house and the front door is opened and he knows before hand a pack of hungry wolves is headed towards his house and does nothing to stop them from entering and killing his six children and cats and dogs. What do we think of this man? Can you call this man good? Another example: The same man in the same scenario has forknowledge that the wolves are coming and as the pack enters his home he chases them upstairs and all through the house with a shotgun and rids his house of the wolves by killing each and everyone, yet 4 of the cildren died and a cat and a dog. Once again what do we think of this man? Is it possible to call him good? This is exactly the picture the Bible portrays of the Omniscient God thats exists within it's pages. What makes the Biblical God even worse is that he loosed the hounds of hell upon His children originally and expects the surviving children to whimper at his feet with praise and worship. It's all superstitious nonsense in my opinion, the musings of bronze age goat herders. Yet for any of us who believe in a Deity that is all loving and compassionate, the problem of evil exists and one struggles to rationalize the "good" evil must represent if our Dieties are Omniscient and Good. Passing it off as "Maya" or illusion just doesn't cut it fo me.

Once again death existed for billions of year before the story of Adam and Eve was conjured up. Without death there would be no life. If stars didn't die the elements that make up your being would not exist. The precursor for the Biblical story in the Garden of Eden can be found in the Babylonian creation myth entitled the Enuma Elish. It predates the Biblical story by about 400 years. Billions have never heard your truth to be able to reject it and to many of those who have in other cultures it is as nonsensical as their belief systems seem to you. Now think about why your belief system seems like nonsense to people in other cultures. God could have made the truth clear to everyone without a chance of doubt by having it written in flaming purple letters suspended in air all over the planet if he so chose. Without the knowledge of God and Evil how would she know what a lie was? If one isn't cognizant of what good and evil is and no one has ever lied to you before, how does one know what a lie is or that beings are even capable of the act. An Omniscient being has no need to test anyone or anything ever. All knowledge is His. Love does not test, fear does!! Love accepts and has compassion for all. Fear tests and punishes. No that is what someone from the Johannine Community wrote that Jesus stated. The writer of the Gospel of John is the least credible witness in the Bible. Do we need to go over all the contradictions within the Gospel of John again and again. Once again you are trying to compare a human teacher without any part in the creation of his students, to someone who creates every student one quantum packet at a time from scratch. We are basically bio-computers. If you create and program such a system and that system does not recognize your password so you can log onto it. Who is to blame? No one else but the creator himself. The case is closed. If you create the bio-system so that they can reprogram themselves, aren't you still responsible for the fact that the system does not recognize you? Who gave it that ability, and if you gave it that ability not knowing the fact that it would happen one day, your very dimwitted and no where near Omniscient!!!
-
Who is to blame for our confusion then. Who created the confused entity. Simple single cell organisms have no problem finding what they are looking for unless another molecule comes in which replicates the Truth or food it is looking for. Who created the pretenders? What is this "simple truth" to which you speak that all of mankind in every culture must adhere to, that God has clearly communicated to every individual so that there is no doubt? In a human classroom a teacher can not be fully blamed for the inability of the students to learn, unless he created the students, as the students creator it is no longer nonsense to blame him for their inability to learn, but the simple truth. In the Christian scenario this lack luster teacher not only knows he has failed at communicating this message clearly, but then with foreknowledge of the situation gets angry and punishes the students for his own failures with eternal detention.

Wish I knew so I could offer it to others. The best I can do so far is eliminate the ones that don't hold up to close scrutiny, and what I have found is that I now understand why so many who once believed so deeply now label themselves as agnostics. God should be held acountable for every religion and denomination that exists and the crimes done under those divisions if he/she/it is Omniscient. Clearly he should have made his Word and his will nore clearly understandable so that all the different interpretations did not exist. Having foreknowledge of the effects of the confusuion His Word would cause and the horrific results it would create, he didn't change the Word itself or the level of our ability to comprehend it correctly. He clearly can not stand guilt free of the problem that exists. Many have spent entire lifetimes seeking in various belief systems.

Dan the point isn't to test their faith. The point is to see what is the basis for a person to place their faith in one specific system over all the others. Do you buy the first car you see from the first salesman and pitch you hear? No and yet many people have done just that by placing their faith in the only religion and sales pitch they have been enculturnated with. Knowledge supercedes and replaces belief. Once one has knowledge of something belief is no longer necessary. Blind faith requires accepting a truth without any type of evidence. Jim Jones, Heaven's Gate and many other cults become filled with people foolish enough to follow a belief system blindly. If one can't question and scrutinize one's faith in a belief system then one has no faith whatsoever in that system! The strongest faith is achieved by scrutinizing ones faith deeply and seeing it stand unscathed by all challenges!!! No when a person tests the spirits it is called wisdom, else you wind up like Eve believing everything anyone ever tells you. Only a mindless moron does that!!!! You said you chose to believe because you "loved the message" and that is not surprising. Your choice was an emotional one and not based on logic. The Christian service has been refined over the centuries to instill a psychosomatic type experience. Talk to the leader of the choir and band in your church and they most likely will tell you they know what music pieces to play to instill whatever emotion it is they wish to get the sheep to baa to. I had this every discussion with the leader of our music group when I went to Central Christian Assembly of God. And yes it is true that you find what you seek more often than not. When I was a believer I found only those scriptures which reinforced my beliefs that the Bible was the perfect inspired word of God. Now I see the Bible as Bronze Age reworked and borrowed stories of ignorant men in most instances and find many such reinforcements to back my belief. I still believe in a Divine being though who loves us and gives us free will. Truth though will stand unblemished by any slings and arrows and as much inquisition as any human can conjure up. It just matters whether you care about finding the truth or reinforcing your own truth.
-
I have also scrutinized my beliefs closely, and I have also found them to be believable. I think that if I asked a devout Muslim if he/she had scrutinized his/her Islamic beliefs, that Mulim would probably say that he/she had found them to be believable. I would probably get the same answer from a devout Parsi, Buddhist, Jew, etc. That is why we have so many religions. Hermano Luis Moriviví Hermitage There is no doubt this is the case and it seems that if there is only one objective truth, then the cognitive tools that humans use to decide what is believable and true are very faulty. Our beliefs are based on our personal experiences filtered through the lens of our world views. Most of our world views we adopt from our parents and the cultures in which we live. emalpaiz I would like to ask you if there are any major aspects of your belief system which you question frequently when you look at the chaotic randomness of our Universe and life in general?
-
Dan you could make that argument and while it may be true for some I know it fails miserably in many cases. Today is Sunday and I wager if I stood outside of ten churches today and asked those leaving basic questions about the formation of scripture and their belief system if even one out of 1000 of them knew the answer I would be truly shocked!!! Like why are there 4 Gospels and what was the name of the early church father who first gave reason why there should be 4 gospels and what were the reasons. How many have any knowledge of the J, E, P and D hypothesis? How many would say Matthew was the first Gospel written? They simply don't know and never cared enough to even investigate the roots of a belief system they place their total trust in. They are like hungry fish swimming who bit and swallowed whole the first baited lure they encountered and are led about by it the rest of their lives. So you are saying these people are more Christian than those who cared so much more that they spent much of their lives investigating every tidbit of knowledge they could find about the RELIGION THEY LOVED!!!! I have heard it stated many times that there is a saying among the intelligenstia "that the more Christians study and have knowledge about their Bibles, the less Christians there will be" This might very well hold true for many belief systems as well. So your argument that a believer who turned atheist was never "a strong" believer only holds true if you recognize that they cared enough that these people even had "stronger belief" Faith is a miserably poor argument as well. Faith in what Zeus, Aphrodite, Allah, Mongi? One has to scrutinize what one has faith in and that is exactly what many of these folks who have turned agnostic and atheist have done. They have seen evidence which proves to them that Christianity is nothing more than nonsensical superstition developed by man and for man. Just because the masses have been led to believe something doesn't make it truth no matter how many times the lie is told and even if whole cultures believe it so. Flat earth belief is a perfect example where knowledge shed a light on an erroneous belief shared by many.

Besides what RevRainbow posted http://wiki.answers....em_Witch_Trials Those women who were pregnant were allowed to give birth before they were executed. There is some speculation that during imprisonment that some were raped. <LI>A 'Witches Cake' would be made from human urine mixed with rye flour and once the cake was baked a dog was brought in and fed the cake. If the dog ate it the accusers assumed that each bite the dog took would send the so-called witch accused into great pain and groans and howling. <LI>1 of the 6 men Giles Cory who was 80 years old refused to condemn any women in the village of witchcraft and refused to admit he too was a witch so they laid him out in a field and piled heavy stones on him hoping that he would admit to being a witch. He did not and he died. Who came up with the Witches Cake Idea????? http://americanhisto..._baked_in_salem

Hey can we get back on topic of as to why Wiccan boobies are cold and Christian ones are warm? Shouldn't it be the other way around
-
I think we are at the point where we should discuss whether all boobies should be grown free range or penned in?
-
I agree, but the fact that she has boobies doesn't guarantee that a person is female. Here are some nice boobies......
