That would depend whether he was a jypo logger or was working for the lumber mill. Could be he saw the function of the tree (and his efforts) was to create firewood to heat his home. In any case, nature assigns a function to those things with in the natural spectrum and man then assign his own function to things depending on his wants, needs, and impulses.

Nature knows exactly what function the tree is going to have in nature. Man knows what use he will put the tree to (function) when he cuts it down.

Function, of course. Why would anyone design a structure not knowing what function it will be used for?

Man generally changes his environment in order to adapt to the greater environment. Man moves to a cold climate and builds a warm shelter which becomes his home environment indicating he has changed his environment. When man leaves his home and ventures into the elements, he wears proper clothing which indicates he has adapted to the environment.

That you said your shoes weigh 20 pounds is indeed a fact. That they actually weigh 20 pounds may or may not be a fact.

If an answer is a matter of fact, then by definition it cannot be wrong. I believe your question can only be answered by opinion. As yet I have no opinion on the matter.

The Federal government is up to their eyeballs in Latin drug and arms trade. One or two agencies cause most of the problems that the other agencies have to deal with. That is the primary reason so many agencies flat refused to fall in under the Dept. of Home Land whatever. They would have to stop what they were doing or let what they were doing become public. I thought it was cute at the time when the president and law makers said that all these agencies would have to merge into Home Land Security and said agencies just flat refused and got away with it. How marvelous can that be?

Thank you, Carl Harry Carlson. It turns out that I am real close to center on the politics with a libertarian leaning on the economic scale. I am not sure if I would have thought of myself like that or not. Interesting.

My goodness! You would be a nasty old meanie. All kidding aside, I think it is safe to say that we all appreciate everyone's efforts to bring the site back and all the hard work that went into it. Bravo!

Now I was not saying that all crazy people should be removed from the gene pool. We are all crazy to one extent or another. When one is so crazy as to do what MOST consider evil (Hitler, Dalmer, BTK killer, those who rape and murder little children) then they should not be left in any position where they can be a threat or an expense to society. I am good with my God that I can pull the switch, push the needle, or fire the gun.

I catch a lot of flack from many people when I say that even Hitler was only evil in a religious sense. Hitler was a crazy man. He was totally insane from my point of view. I also believe that if someone misbehaves like he did, that insanity is not an excuse or defense and he needed to be permanently removed from society. By removed, I mean with a bullet to the head that he quite willingly did himself. If anyone is so crazy as to do things which are largely considered evil by many, then they should be removed from society permanently. Lethal injection, bullet to the head, the method does not matter as long as the end result is the same.

I will hold you and your family close in my thoughts and meditations.

I believe that "evil" only exists in a religious context. Otherwise, it is just gross misbehavior or perhaps a mental illness or aberration. It takes us back to an old question of, "Are there different levels of sin?" Is a liar evil or just a sinner? Is a murdering butcher who eats his victims evil or just a sinner?

When I discover I only have 30 days to live I will try to remember this thread and make a definitive comment. In the mean time, I will guess that I would gather those I love around me and tell them of the extent of that love. I would also make a few phone calls and tell a few people to kiss it.

According to the test, I am a Libertarian. I would not have labeled myself such, although, I believe Ron Paul is the only Republican candidate that makes any sense what so ever. I also think that the test is over simplistic and does not provide real evidence of anyone's political leaning.

Puking at the table as one of our Presidents did as a guest at a Japanese state dinner.

Lesson: If you really want to protect something, get yourself an angry watch unicorn.

I have been tobacco free since June 13th 1999. They told me the first thing I would notice was a drop in blood pressure. I fooled them. My blood pressure did not go down a single point. Took two different blood pressure meds to do that. I am glad that my blood pressure was not the reason I quit.

My daddy used to chaw tobbacy and he always called it snus. It didn't matter if it came out of a pouch, all stringy and sticky or if he cut if off a plug to chew or dipped it out of a can filled with crud looking like coffee grounds. He said snuff was what people used to put up their nose to sneeze and carried in little things called snuff boxes.

Manners promote civility and keep folks from ripping each other's throats out. A well mannered person would not deliberately cut one off in traffic or respond to it with the the "finger", threats, or violence. Allowing a lady with small children or a man with arms burdened with bags go before you as you hold the door, is good manners. The list is long and has nothing to do with "social etiquette" or where to place the freaking spoon on the table. It is just common courtesy and an effort to be polite.

The current political system is broken but that does not mean that the other options listed could fix it. I am liberal in some aspects. conservative in some, libertarian in some, anarchist in some, and maybe even socialist in some. I also think that libertarian and conservative are the same, just different extremes and liberal and socialism the same but different extremes. It depends solely upon the issue at hand as to what direction I lean politically. I am a member of no political party as the political parties do not bend once their platform is in place. In order to survive as a nation we must all be willing to bend. It cannot be all or nothing. That is why our current congress is stubbornly locked into ineffectiveness.
