Anyone Else Ride (Motorcycles That Is)
Brother Kaman replied to Dorian Gray's topic in Hobby/Leisure Archive
I bought a little 125 cc. Genuine Buddy Scooter three years ago as a retirement gift to myself. I love it. It can buzz around in city traffic and has enough zip to get you out of jam if necessary. I have a folding front rack and a bubble trunk in the rear. I do all my daily shopping with it in Spring, Summer and early Fall. One thing I will say, I have had a number of close calls from cars, who's drivers just don't bother to look at anything smaller that a Cadillac. One thing I will never do again is go thru downtown in the middle lane of a three lane one way street. No one see you and they all want to change lanes on top of you and there is no where to go. By the way, the State of Washington considers scooter of more than 50cc. to be a motorcycle, even though they seem like little toys. -
Were Moses And Joshua Heros Or War Criminals?
Brother Kaman replied to Fawzo's topic in Philosophy & Theory
History is written by the victors. Moses and Joshua were heroes to their people. If they had lost they would have been war criminals. General Sherman was a Civil War Hero. Had the Union lost the war he would have been a war criminal. Same for Harry Truman, etc. -

I shop a local store where the meat department marks down the meat that doesn't sell quickly enough. Sometimes the markdowns can be outstanding. I have often bought bacon (hickory smoked, maple cured, peppered, thick sliced, you name it) for $0.99 per lb. I buy much of my meat in that marked down section and take it directly home, vacuum seal it an freeze it. I can usually fill my freezer with meat if I shop and check the mark down area daily in the spring, summer and early fall. I bought a quarter beef last year and after cut and wrap by the butcher, the price was about $4.30 per lb. I can usually beat that price daily in the mark down area at the local store.

My beliefs are 100% inspired by God. God has told ME that the Holy Bible is not his word. It would appear, steven8166, we do not agree.

Brother Kaman replied to steven8166's topic in Hobby/Leisure Archive
I learned a long time ago that if I wanted only friends who agreed with me, I would have none. I will be your friend, steven8166, and respect your opinions but do not expect me to agree with many of them. -
Ky Marriages
Brother Kaman replied to RevPatty's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
The county clerk in the county that the marriage is to take place in should be able to answer your questions. -
Just because the light bulb lights when fed appropriate electrical current does not lessen the fact that the Theory of electro magnetism remains a Theory. We can see the effects of the electro magnetism but we cannot see electricity or touch the magnetic fields. We can, with mathematics, determine the probability that it exists but that does not mean any of it exists in the manner we believe it does. I can reach inside my self and pull the magic out from within and make my life work for me and there is no math at this time to prove that it works but it does not mean there never will be.

I do not pledge allegiance to the flag. I also to not have the attitude you have described. I do understand from another thread, however, that you view things in black and white. I am gray.
-
I may further ask, why should we pledge our allegiance at all if it is not enforceable? Does it give us warm, patriotic fuzzies to stand with a crowd, hand over our heart or at attention and salute?

You speak of science is such general disregard I would be surprised if you were not using outhouses for sanitation and pig lard for lighting. Science has done many wonderful things and whether you are ready to admit to it or not, you would be hard pressed (any of you who science as a shotgun term rather than define which science) to have to live without those things science has discovered to make your life better.

You are certainly welcome to believe that.

God is physics. Sub atomic physics.

Much of the "proof" of science is in the fact that when the theories of science are put to work, it works. For instance, no one, not even scientist have ever seen an atom, much less an electron. No scientist has ever seen and electron "flowing" thru a copper wire to light a bulb yet when the light bulb is connected to the copper wire with appropriate amounts of electrons "flowing" thru it, the light bulb lights right up and we all accept it. Even though no one has ever seen an electron, we accept the theory of electro-magnetics to be true. But because no one has seen electrons "flowing," it can only be said to be a theory. I would not sit in the dark awaiting science to prove that theory.

All things are viewed thru the prism of our experiences, justified or not.

What Do You Do When You're Not Here?
Brother Kaman replied to constantine319's topic in Hobby/Leisure Archive
I am retired but my wife works. Because she works and works hard, I do nearly all the cooking, money management, light housekeeping, and all the shopping. I think it is only fair to help her as much as I can and still leave a little room to be retired. I have had many hobbies in the past but don't seem to have as strong a desire to continue with them. A shot of whiskey now and then before bed is about as entertaining as I get these days. I try to read as much as I can but I find that it is getting harder and harder to read without getting tired. I guess I am a bit boring. -
A Course In Miracles
Brother Kaman replied to constantine319's topic in Creative Expression & Cultural Arts
I have discussed the "A Course in Miracles" with some who have read it and it comes highly recommended. I have been thinking of picking up a copy (paper) and beginning. I procrastinate a lot so it may be a while. -
When I tell folks that I am an Ordained Minister, complete with Certificate of Ordination by a recognized church, the first thing they ask is what denomination as though it has to be Christian. When I tell them it is the ULC, they say, "Isn't that an online church?" When I agree that it is, I receive snickers or outright laughter and then the jokes begin. I try to do my ministering without any hoorah's or mentioning of my ordination.
