What Would You Do/not Do For A Million Dollars?
Dan56 replied to Youch's topic in Philosophy & Theory
I wouldn't do anything that I haven't already done. Short answer; Work...Apply myself. One of my sisters may have had the right idea, she just married a millionaire -

"When injustice becomes law, resistance becomes duty" -Thomas Jefferson It seems that corduroy pillow cases are still making headlines. Live large---be happy---put it on the card, the bill is for tomorrow---Whoops tomorrow is here. "I've told you a million times--Don't exaggerate!!" ----A Jewish mother. Mine said 2049, when I'll be 93.... Just out of curiosity, I changed one answer, optimistic to pessimistic, and instead of living until 2049, I died in 2008... I highly doubt that being more optimistic than pessimistic could extend a life by 41 years... Oy, I guess that was a pessimistic thing to say

Very Basic Questions
Dan56 replied to mererdog's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
"In our age there is no such thing as ‘keeping out of politics.’ All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia. The very concept of objective truth is fading out of the world. Lies will pass into history.” – George Orwell -
I agree that there is a difference between evil and sin. God creates evil in the form of calamity, but He did not create sin. Evil does not discriminate, bad things happen to good people. Jesus said; "Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, Nay.." (Luke 13:4) Evil might be described as the absence of peace, and sin is the absence of good.

One Month To Live
Dan56 replied to Rev Bill R's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
I didn't mention anything about fear? (2 Timothy 1:7) , The apostle Paul wrote this in his final days. Prayer would be for guidance of what to do in my final days, not fearing, but having the desire to meet any remaining purpose which the Lord might have use of me. For me, love for God is saying "not my will, but thine be done". -
One Month To Live
Dan56 replied to Rev Bill R's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
I think most people would spend their last 30 days attending to what they love the most in life. If they love the world, they would spend the time doing worldly things. If they love others, they would spend the time with those they love. If they love themselves, they would spend the time and their money on themselves. If they love God, they would probably spend most of the time on their knees. I personally would fall into the last category, I'd be more concerned about where I was going instead of what I was leaving. -
Modern Or Neo-Paganism
Dan56 replied to Atwater Vitki's topic in Earth/Nature-Based & Indigenous Religions
How could God be an atheist? If Christ was who he said he was, then God is Christ and no other. Imo, monotheism will always clash with polytheism, they just can't mesh together. -
A few years ago, my neighbor used a pooper-scooper to pick-up a sack of dog crap and left it at my front door. A subtle hint to keep my dog out of her yard.... Only problem was, we didn't have a dog.

Keeping it nice is over-rated with some people. Put the lawn sprinkler in the corner of the garden/lawn where Fido is relieving himself and hit the tap the next time Daddy walks him......... Make it look like an accident

I am concerned for Asia Bibi, which is why I don't pretend to support those who want to kill her. By law, she was sentenced to death for blasphemy against Muhammad, and that is something I don't mind bashing.

I suspect the outcry would be far greater if Christians were screaming for the death of a Muslim for not sharing their belief? Its a shame that these radical religious types don't have a sense of humor. Blasphemy in Christianity is a sin generally attributed to believers, not nonbelievers.
-
From the article; "We are ready to sacrifice our life for the Prophet Muhammad,” protesters chanted, according to The Associated Press."I don't have a problem with that, but it seems the sacrifice they really want is that of the Pakistani Christian woman for alleged blasphemy. Imagine the outcry if Christian protestors were screaming for the death of a Muslim woman for blasphemy against Christ. It seems that people aren't persecuted because of their religion, but rather persecuted by religion itself.

I've noticed the same holds true for a lot of people, cute little babies often grow up to be vandalistic adults Notice the resemblance?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ... 'Wow ! What a ride!'~Robert Winger

I think that your under-estimating God, your spirit isn't out of His reach. The second death is a spiritual one. You may have lost your patience with God, but luckily He is long suffering towards you and me. For a while anyhow.

That's pretty much my opinion too. (Romans 1:24-28)

Apparently emotions, love, and beliefs are just neurological phenomena and nothing more. Remove that part of the brain and you have a machine, or short circuit the ones and zero's of a software program and you have a human.

Like "loving your enemy and forgiving others"? I think superstition agrees with you.

I wonder if Tabby suffered from bi-polar depression? You mentioned her being like 2 different people at times. Anyhow, her battle with life is over and hopefully she's in a peaceful place. Apple CEO Steve Jobs last words were; "Oh Wow, Oh Wow, Oh Wow". Sometimes I suspect people get a glimpse into the afterlife at the very end. My condolences and sympathy.

Hey...what Does Proverbs 18:24 Mean?
Dan56 replied to Coolhand's topic in Monotheist Theologies & Scriptures
I think it means; "There are friends that rend us, but there is a friend who is closer than a brother" -
Thanks for your answer...Shaken may have been the wrong word to use, I was just curious what your reaction might have been to a prayer that went unanswered. I figured that you would have remained firm in your convictions regardless of a positive answer to prayer. I've known Christians who lose faith when they don't get what they pray for, without affirmation they begin to doubt. The apostle Paul asked 3 times that the thorn in his side be removed, but the hindrance remained, God said that His grace was sufficient. I guess faith, strength, & divine power is sometimes best displayed against the backdrop of human weakness? I often think of this prayer when I don't feel prayer is working; I ASKED GOD I asked God for strength that I might achieve, I was made weak to humbly obey. I asked for heath that I might do greater things, I was given infirmity that I might do better things. I asked for riches that I might be happy, I was given poverty that I might be wise. I asked for power that I might have the praise of men, I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God. I asked for all things that I might enjoy life, I was given life that I might enjoy all things. I got nothing that I asked for, but everything I had hoped for. Almost despite myself, my unspoken prayers were answered. I am among all men most richly blessed. ( Author unknown )
