  1. I would suggest you brew yourself a nice cup of hot tea and then enjoy it with a fresh prune danish. That should calm you down by the time you're finished and we can try to have a conversation. It's highly unusual for someone with only 9 posts on the forum to feel such anger that they are ready to just walk away. Maybe it would help if you told us a bit more about yourself, what attracted you to the forum, and what you were seeking to accomplish as a member here.
  2. Let me welcome you to the forum. You don't seem to understand that on this forum, as well as other forums, perhaps most forums, it is not uncommon for conversations, in response to comments, to tackle subject matter some what different than the original subject of a thread. These, for want of a better term, digressions are not hijackings of a thread, they are simply the natural progression of a discussion. You also need to understand, if you do not already, that these conversations are not private. If you respond to a post by Larry, then Harry and Barry have a right to post responses to your post. If you are uncomfortable to the freewheeling nature of this forum, the forum may not be the best fit for you. However, I would encourage you to stay and participate and get to know the other members.
  3. זיכרונו לברכה May his memory be for a blessing
  4. Personally, I dictate everything to my secretary Fawzo, but I'm hoping to learn the alphabet soon.
  5. It doesn't really matter, but all the ULC stuff he has his undies in a knot over comes the Monastery.org website.
  6. Actually you don't know. You cannot take your individual experience, true as it may be, in your part of the country, and extrapolate a universal truth from it. Your story, it seems to me, is about a crack addict lying to obtain funds, apparently to feed her addiction, nothing more. And I would point out that even crack addicts can have children, even crack addicts can run out of gas and need money to fill the tank. I'd rather give someone $5 and be wrong than not give someone $5 and be wrong to the detriment to someone's well being. But, of course, I am espousing a Jewish viewpoint in regard to my obligations to other people. What we can agree on is that you do have too much pride. As for race issues, I don't follow every thread so if you could point where they have occurred I would be most appreciative.
  7. Besorah is not Hebrew for a message or for testimony. Report? Depends upon how you mean it. And no, Jesus' name in Hebrew does not mean Yah is our Deliverer. But what the heck, what do I know? I'm just a simple rabbi.
  8. Given that the Torah consists of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy it's hard to understand how you could have read the Bible cover to cover more than once, but only have read "most" of the Torah.
  9. Are you done? No one called you an idiot. No one called you an evil person. No one called you crazy and no one suggested you be incarcerated. We simply told you that we have trouble understanding what you are writing and that if you can write standard English please do so - and if you cannot, please avail yourself of whatever opportunities you may have to become more proficient. For that, you call down the wrath of G-d on us? You say that you are an adult. Can you respond as an adult?
  10. Lordie, Building on Brother Kaman's thoughts, if one writes, one writes to one's audience. It doesn't matter how fluent, for example, and skilled in French an individual may be --- if that individual is writing to audience whose knowledge of French consists of "oui" and "monsieur", and that indiviudal wants to be understood by that audience, it makes no sense to write in French. Furthermore, it is the height of arrogance to dismiss their inability to understand with a remark that it is not the individual's problem, rather it is the audience's problem for being uneducated and the members should go and learn French. No matter how important what you want to say may be, it is going to fall on, metaphorically, deaf ears and you are going to find yourself marginialized on the forum, if you continue to post what comes across as incoherent, rambling babble.
  11. הִלֵּל אוֹמֵר הֱוֵי מִתַּלְמִידָיו שֶׁל אַהֲרֹן אוֹהֵב שָׁלוֹם וְרוֹדֵף שָׁלוֹם Hillel said: Be as the disciples of Aaron Loving peace and pursuing peace. (Tractate Avot 1:12)
  12. Since I am certainly not trying to avoid conversation with ChrisinAK and I am always willing to engage in dialogue, we'll just have to see how it plays out.
  13. I welcome you to the forum. I wish you well on your spiritual journey... wherever it takes you. But, as we are not of like mind, beginning with the fact that I am a Jew, we may not have much occasion to interact.
  14. We've danced this dance before. You'll forgive me if I sit this one out, but my objection is noted.
  15. As for me, I am going on vacation so it will be about two weeks until we next meet, however ----- To all those on the forum who celebrate Christmas - May your holiday be filled with joy. May your holiday be filled with hope. May you enjoy the company of family and friends. May you be generous in your giving and gracious in your receiving. And if I can be forgiven for going ethnic, for a moment, on you - May you find yourself blessed with that most precious of gifts - שָׁלוֹם Shalom, Peace and wholeness.
  16. מדה כנגד מדה Measure for measure - the term in Jewish mysticism that mirrors the concept of karma.
With all due respect to Dan, and to Raincloud, theses verses from Deuteronomy (30th chapter, v. 11-14, for those who want to look it up) are emphatic that the performance of the mitzvot are not an unattainable standard.
