You'Ve Been Exiled To A Penal Colony On An Island
Fawzo replied to Fawzo's topic in Creative Expression & Cultural Arts
Prescription Medicide: The Goodness of Planned Death (Hardcover) by Jack Kevorkian I heard it comes with a cute little bookmarker laced with some type of candy. -
Ok you've been exiled to a penal colony on a island for 10 years and get to take 5 books with you. What 5 do you choose? My list would be: 1) The Cloister and the Hearth - (1861) is a historical novel by the English author Charles Reade. Set in the 15th century, it relates the story revolving about the travels of a young scribe and illuminator, Gerard Eliassoen, through several European countries. The Cloister and the Hearth often describes the events, people and their practices in minute detail. Its main theme is the struggle between man's obligations to family and to Church. 2) The Nature of Personal Reality by Jane Roberts as channeled by Seth 3) A Course in Miracles by the Inner Peace Foundation 4) Lord of the Rings trilogy by Tolkein......I know I'm cheating but why do you think I got sent to the penal colony in the first place! 5) The Spiritual Path - Buddha Zen TAo Tantra by OSHO The Bible almost made my list but I figure one of the other inmates or RevRainbow when he would come visit would let me borrow his

Yesterday I started reading "what bothers me most about Christianity" honest reflections from an openminded Christ follower by Ed Gungor and picked up a copy of 'The Sacredness of Questioning Everything" by David Dark and "Natural Wakefulness" discovering the wisdom we were born with by Gaylon Ferguson. Going to give my legs a rest from hiking until I go on vacation in August and read a bunch.

Tolerance Of Those Who Do Not Believe...
Fawzo replied to Democritus AChE's topic in Freethought, Secularism, No Religion
I wonder how many atheists and agnostics there are in Congress. Right now I think "you people" are represented by a total number of 0 self proclaimed atheists. Isn't there something about taxation without representation? The atheists here seem to be a rather intelligent bunch. Does that mean since there are none in Congress that atheists are too smart to run fior office or that Congress is a few fries short of a happy meal? -
What of the rest of creation and things like dragon flies. Isn't the "One" experiencing awareness through their perceptual devices as well? Is my world view and perceptions any more important than that of the myriad of other species that enjoy our planet?

When you say "to know its infinite..." do you mean "to experience its infinite...."

The interesting aspect of this viewpoint is the significance of the individuals creative abilities to effect thier environment and that of the collective conscious. I myself think as consciousness evolves those desires you speak of slowly disappear to the single purpose of sheer beingness.

The teachings on being in the world and not of it comes to mind. It also seems as if the Buddhist have a good handle on living in duality with their focus on Unity.

Why I Became Ordained By The Ulc

I love your handle. I was wondering if the couple you married were atheist as well? -
You only say that because you never had his meatloaf!

I think the one extremist belief where the earth is only 7000 years old wins first prize? I have two guys at work who are attending college who sincerely believe this. A strange side note I notice about these two is that they are also the two most likely to get angry and break something out of frustration. I've been wondering if there is some kind of corollary between their faith and this behavior or whether it is just a matter of centeredness and maturity.

There is one theory that has been put forth that Moses was a very good strategist. It states that he took the curious route that he did in order to have time to train his troops so that they would be ready for the fierce battles that would lie ahead. If they would have directly tried to cross into the Canaanite fortified city-states they would have been easily defeated. 40 years was the time it took for them to arm themselves sufficiently and train a large enough force to get the job done. The weaponry methods and strategies they learned from the Egyptians gave them an advantage as well.

Moses was on that mountain for 40 days and fourty nights and you don't think he ever had to urinate or drop a deuce during that time period?!?!?
