Prejudice is an accumulation of experience filtered through intelligence. We make all use this mental mechanism to process situations based on incomplete information. It works or does not based on our intelligence and previous experience. We use it all the time. For instance when we play catch. We do not bother to actually calculate how to throw or catch the ball. We just make a guest based on past experience. As far as the why of things, it is irrelevant unless you seek to change people, which I do not. Although understanding motivations is important if you seek to master social situations. It is good to understand others buttons and strings, not for their sake but for yours.

When the brains stops purposefully directing the lot. When they are no longer intentionally interactively self-conscious. Sentience alone is not person-hood. Plants are sentient, and are eaten live by everyone.

Container garden all planted this weekend. Next weekend is the NATO summit and a marathon so there will be no traveling in the city for a few days. Got it all done this weekend instead. I'll be weeding and cleaning up outside this week. Then a BBQ for Memorial Day. I'm so looking forward to the fresh tomatoes, peppers, and onions. And to just sitting on the deck with a cup of coffee, or a cool beverage every day after work.

Happy ULC Day. The Universal Life Church was incorporated 50 years ago by Reverend Kirby Hensley on May 2, 1962. How will you celebrate?

Some people think that they died. Others think they are alive. Go figure.

Lucky you. Now they can directly control and ration your power usage. They also make power outlets that can automatically eject plugs, which is great for alarm clocks.

"Form ever follows function"... Louis Sullivan What ever is not necessary for or interferes with functionality is eventually discarded. Which also means that what ever survives must have a function.

Whichever is more effective and efficient. You don't raise the temperature of the environment to make a cup of coffee. It does seem though that when one does not have control over oneself, one seeks to control the world instead.

Evil is what you dislike. Good is what you like. Some people claim the opposite. They see a greater good in something they dislike, but they still like that instead. Some claim that it is something else, something absolute, no matter what anyone likes or dislikes. I dislike that.

I think 'of African decent' would be appropriate for all.

Honorarium Liability, Maybe
panpareil replied to VonNoble's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
I do not see paying taxes as a moral obligation. It is a legal one. It is no more moral to pay them than it is to not pay them. My main impetus to pay taxes is they take them from me. I go out of my way to avoid new tax liabilities. Jesus said render unto Caesar, Brutus also had an opinion on what Caesar should get. Nice story about the coffee cup though. -
Modern Or Neo-Paganism

If God is the supreme being, then he has no god, he has only self and possibly his creation. If he has no god then he is an atheist. A good example of the working wedding of monotheism and polytheism is the Christian Trinity, probably because the polytheism is denied. -
The guy is, in at least his own mind, purposefully attacking you. You have already talked nicely to him. He has made a decision to act against you now, not just to do what he wants. First I would double team him in a good cop bad cop kind of way. Be genuinely and overtly friendly, go out of your way to be nice to him. Let your husband be territorial and aggressive. This will allow you to keep him emotionally off balance and hopefully establish a better relationship after this conflict is resolved. If you have already been aggressive or confrontational this may no longer work. The most successful solution would be a physical barrier. It won't happen if it can't happen. A fence or just standing there blocking his dog when he comes by. As they say good fences make good neighbors. Otherwise there are some suggestions at this site. http://landscaping.about.com/od/pestcontrol/a/dog_repellents.htm I personally like the motion detection sprinkler. You could also set up the area so the dog would get something on him that was dirty or smelly. Something the owner would find offensive, like skunk spray. http://www.cabelas.com/scents-scent-eliminators-tinks-10-skunk-scent-2.shtml

I was only expanding on my original brief response in reply to your apparent request for elucidation, and had no intent to be argumentative but explanatory. Although I could have left the third sentence out, which is probably responsible for your feelings, and adds nothing. -
Right is right, Whether dark or light.

Socialism, National Socialism - Only socialists do not see they belong together. Hitler was a socialist but a nationalist. Deny all you want. He was a card carrying member and only left to form a socialist party for germany and germans alone. Mussolini was expelled from the socialist party after he supported Italian involvement in WWI also for nationalist reasons. Libertarianism, Anarchism - To many libertarians see no need for government, which makes them anarchists. I am for the government described literally in our founding documents. I find little need to expand them regarding the relationship between the government and the people. Maybe to more exactly define personhood. Liberty is not material, it is not effortless, and it requires nothing of anyone else except respect. Government is necessary, but sovereignty resides in the individual. Governments are layers around ever larger groups of individuals, each layer having less power and doing less, without redundancy, than the layers it contains. The larger the population covered by the government, the less powerful it should be over the people. The tasks delegated to each layer are only what lower layers cannot possibly do at all. Interstate commerce cannot be regulated at the municipal level. Garbage collection does not need to be organized at the national level. I would also change a some congressional rules to force some issues to be agreed upon unanimously, like raising the debt limit. Mainly those areas where a majority could burden a minority. We are all alive, we are all free, happiness is our own responsibility. We are not guaranteed to be kept alive, or to be given anything that we do not already have. -

And you have socialism and anarchism up there twice. My pick is other, not the current system but the one that was intended. Actually this organization is another vision of what was intended. -
Sometimes the light sustains us with its relaxing warmth. It exposes and thrusts us in the world of activity, reward, and danger. Sometimes the darkness sustains us with its velvety coolness. It shuts out the world, allowing us to retreat, rest and heal.

While I do not oppose the taxation of moneys collected or earned by religious organizations, I also do not see why any organization should be exempt. This includes unions and all other political organizations. Both of which only function to enhance the material existence of their constituents and officers at the expense of others. Their peddling of freedom and rights is equivalent to the churches peddling of salvation and heaven. Donations mainly serve to put their leaders into expensive suits, limosines, mansions and power. Why not tax the money collected by politicians and political organizations and make these funds available for the political needs those who do not have the big organizations or big money behind them.

Science is merely a way of collecting information to make decisions. It does not make decisions for us. The questions we ask, the selected information we collect, what we choose to ignore, and the decisions we make are still influenced by what we desire to happen. In the end we are desire driven not information driven.

Since I am in no way omniscient I do not trust that I have all the necessary information in order to make a scientific determination of any situation. Without knowing everything that is or has happened it is not possible to know if a significant cause of any event has been neglected when collecting data. Which is why I do not trust the conclusions in areas where strict controls are not possible, or where projected outcomes are never created as a test of theory. It is easy to say that this will happen if we do that, but not proven until we do this to cause that. In any event, without sufficient knowledge I rely on the related skills of pattern filling and recognition to make decisions. In rare cases where what should be does not feel right I will add that to my decision making process as well.

All in all, I would rather be happy than not. So I am. Although, I have been in circumstances where this was not immediately possible, and took a great deal of work.
