  1. Hi Johnathan, I would has it a guess about less than 5% is truthful. However I am looking at some writings that talk about there being many gods. I am aware of the Jewish assertion that there is one. I also hear of Egyptian, Babylonian, and other religions pre dating Judaism from the region. I am just interested in origins of God in culture. Not wishing to bash anyone. Just do not want being preached at.
  2. I was reading that the word Israel is made of three gods IS for Isis, Ra for Ra or Re, and El for Elnil the horned god. The Bible talks about EL often in the early passages. I am told this is maybe from the mountain god or the solar god. Please can people give any ideas to look further on this topic. I understand this topic may be touchy to some but I would like educated sourses from history and not just bible references unless relevant to my research. Please understand I do not believe in the bible being totally truthful so please take scorn elsewhere. Thank you friends.
  3. My comment was about the quotes and there relevance to child suffering and death.
  4. One has to believe we are not there by chance or that there is some power who brings these horrors to teach us lessons. I find that sickening. The pain of horrible painful death only teaches me if there is a god then he is very cruel and heartless. The verse does nothing for me.
  5. Hi Overgrown,. In the 45 years that I was a nurse I have witnessed many people die. Some die in utterly cruel ways. Watching a child die of brain cancer was a horrible experience. I do not blame god, I just doubt he exists. Nature can be cruel. It does not seem to be influenced by a god. It can be beautiful and also horrific. that is nature. We do not escape from this. Death happens.
  6. I noticed I made a typo. Paul did not stand against slavery. I agree with you Jonathan. Jesus said “Think not that I came to destroy the law or the prophets; I came not to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass away from the law, till all things be accomplished” (Mt. 5:17-18). " This means he agreed with all the stoning, killing, vicious laws to be found in the OT.
  7. You narrow this to something reported about Jesus. I think of Paul and his claim of those who have another form of Christianity and the churches eager for being perfection. This has led to fighting within denominations through the years with the cry of we are the only true church and Christians . Then there is the persecuting of gay people . Paul also did stand against slavery . Maybe the cause is those who build on Paul but it has caused centuries of murder and misery. Then their is the persecution of Jews and other faiths. All in all Christianity has not always been a force for good.
  8. Dan you did say it. My question was why did a loving god not stop the tsunami and the killing of Jews by Hitler. You may of changed but you did say the tsunami victims were not Christians and to the latter you said the jews killed Jesus. I still think there is hate in you or you would have mourned for both and seen the injustice .
  9. Yet Dan even you seperate murder from a godly killing. So many people killed were killed by those who felt justified to kill by their faith in a religion. I remember talking about the new years tsunami in india and you felt this was justified because they were not Christians. I see even the seeds of such evils from the past are in you.
  10. I remember when I mentioned in the past all the people who got burned at the stake, Dan said well they were heretics. One cannot expect compassion here Jonathan.
  11. Ah! the age old game of Christians . Our group is always more right than the rest and we are better than rhem. Just look at the denominations and splits and fragmentations.
  12. Totally agree with that. The only reason it matters is that droves of people keep insisting it does matter but beyond that the claim (imo) is hollow. I would ignore that it except they are an irratant and keep voting for the likes of Trump and his vice candidate because they think he is also Christian and therefore beyond question . scarry in my opinion
  13. Can archaeology prove an unproven figure walked into a build. of course not in the same way you cannot prove that Mohammed did not ascend to heaven from the temple mount. saying Jesus predicted the temple being torn down is no great deal when you consider that the gospels were written after the event and altered by the many scribes. but then no original gospel exists in its original form.
  14. I can name many cities in the USA but would that be proof I went there . It is difficult to say where Jesus went when it is difficult to prove he existed. The believer archaeologists are like unto someone who believes in Freddie Flintstone and find a stone axe and then say that is proof that Freddie Flintstone lived there. It is just rubbish .
  15. Actually objective history/archaeology do not prove the bible to be true or always agree with it.. The trouble is there are many believers who try to do archaeology who try to find any thing to support their belief rather than questioning it with objective criticism and considering other view points. They also dismiss anything that opposes them. I belong to an archaeology society and such claims are frowned upon by the senior archaeologists who look at things with an open mind.

Hi Pete, I received the files you sent. They appear to all be there. It looks like there is a lot of useful information in there. I'm already starting to see some of the things mentioned in the headings of those notes. I've only been to 3 meetings so far and in every one of them  someone has at least hinted at something (different) that goes against the doctrine I believe.

      Thanks for the help Pete,

      Dave

Most of the other groups who follow non trinity views declare that they follow the bible such as the Mormons and the Muslims and have a further revelation from an angel. I find this odd if they believe in Paul who said "  I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. 8 But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let them be under God’s curse!

I find this incompatible with Paul's teachings. I agree that they have a right to their views but from a New Testament perspective they are not correct.

  17. I would not say that arrogance only belongs to fanatical atheism. It also belongs to some religions who hate atheists and cannot accept a person has a full right to be an atheist. They treat them with hostility and demand they follow a religion. I guess if religions can be over zealous then why not atheism also.
  18. i think there is such a thing as evangelical atheism but those who oppose it are usually evangelical about another view or religion.
  19. I do not think so Dan but lets see if we do not end up doig this again.ĺ
  20. You never admit that you things that are wrong do you Dan. Even your explanation is blaming the other. Very bible god like.
  21. Yeah! Thròw the bombs and say it has nothing to do with you.
