  2. Okay then tell how this should be seen as good. Tell how I am misunderstanding it. Luke 19:27 "But those enemies of mine who did not want me to be king over them--bring them here and kill them in front of me.'". Matt 10:34: "Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword." People just pick pick out what they want to hear when they talk of the bible.
  3. and as man wrote the bible? God never sat down at a desk and used a pen. Men did. So you say men lie. Interesting.
  4. ObedEdom said "Since there is no one Higher (how do you really know) than God (is there a god - then prove it) who would He appeal to? "(how can he appeal if you cannot prove he exists in the first place) He can only appeal to or swear by Himself." (It seems we have a god who cannot prove himself, takes no intervention in terrible events, who made a real hash of protecting and writing his word) Does that god actually exist - there is no evidence that a god does. Sure you argue about a collection of writings and say god is the author but if that is so then god is really inept. Your not convincing anyone with what you have presented. You say it is a belief you have - well fine but you have nothing that proves anything. Some god and some way of trying to get people to follow such a god. If there is a god then he is terribly incompetent and inept about everything and needs human help to present himself. Poor thing. .
  5. Everybody knows god exists? That is rubbish (imo). Do you really believe people would be atheists or agnostics if there was any evidence that god exists.
  6. The problem is we have something that argues it is the word of that God and throughout the NT there are references for the end to be coming soon and very soon and in places within the life time of those back then. Now if one argues we have the word of that god and he wants us to understand what he is saying then references to being "soon" (which is in human language) are understood as just that. The trouble is it has not been.
  7. It is about two thousand years since that quote.
  8. I remember before the year 2000 so many people were forecasting the end of the world . Then it switched to 2012. I know the world will end one day but just where do these apocalyptic millennium preachers disappear too. I know some keep changing the date all their lives with nothing happening. The JWs have given up forecasting an exact date after many times getting it wrong. I wonder why so many follow this type of preacher..
  9. Yes! Just like some believe so called holy books to be 110% true.....
  10. I read the Huff and enjoy it, and I am not knocking it. Yet, I would not 100% support its accuracy.
  11. I think Huff can be good some times but like many news papers they can sensationalise that which really is not news or inaccurately report it. We have a number of papers in the UK that really are not worth the read (imo). I agree it is sometimes a good idea to take some things with a pinch of salt (as they say in the UK). Do they use that expression in the US?
  12. I think your right. The more I read about this news the more I feel there is no story here. .
  13. True. http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/news/latest/2015/07/quran-manuscript-22-07-15.aspx 95.4% accurate. However I believe seekers point to be the case.
  14. Plagiarized or not, it shows the variety of thought around then. The Koran also has a view of Jesus like so many earlier books that did not make it to the bible that starkly differs from the view people have of Jesus to day.
  15. They found an old copy of the Koran., Oddly it could pre-date Mohammed. It maybe an error or the Koran could have other origins to that of Mohammed... http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2015/09/01/birmingham-koran-carbon-test_n_8071696.html
  16. I get your point Brother but I do not know. Describing Hitler and what he did as the actions of a bad boy just does not ring it for me. Some how a life form of the biggest and deepest sewer of the universe or Just evil has more ring for me whether its religious or not. . Maybe some religious saying have become just public speak and lose their religious connotation in the community over time.
  17. Some do and some do not (imo). There are those who try to kill themselves just to try to make the feelings go away. Some seek help but others do not. Those who do not seek help, I have little time for. It is a horrid crime, I think we all agree.
  18. Here again is an issue. Child molesting is not an insanity. Its putting their sexual needs before the suffering of children. We may not agree on the point but we both agree it is very wrong and we do not need a bible to tell us that. In fact in bible days getting married at 13 was not unusual. It would be very frown on by both our countries now. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/11/01/dsm-pedophilia-mental-disorder-paraphilia_n_4184878.html
  19. There are many mental health conditions but crazy is not one of them. It is a lay term and not a clinical one. The question was - was Hitler in full mind when he killed the Jews and I would have to say yes. He wanted to unify his people in Germany against a common foe and it matter little for him who it was. He used the prejudice against the Jewish people and refused to pay the payments for the first world war which had left Germany destitute. It made him popular and that his all he wanted. Would he of been fit to stand trial then and I would have to say yes. He fell in love with power and wanted to ever unify the people out of poverty and went to any lengths to do this. In some ways I can see why he was so angry. The first world war had been a stupid war and for no really good reason caused by a set of macho countries causing paranoia in the other by each flexing their muscles. It took one spark and millions died. Germany took the blame and Hitler did not like that. He was then on a mission. It was the lengths he was prepared to go to that shock the world and killed so many Jews, Gypsy's, JWs mentally ill people, gay people and his opponents to their death. So many others who had to stop him. Yes I think he knew what he was doing and Yes I think he was fit to trial. In the end he was low in mood and ranting because he knew it was over and his country had again been decimated again. He was (IMO) a most evil man who was prepared to do anything to get what he wanted and so many paid for his actions.
  20. Some people are just bad. It has been like that many times in history.
  21. I work in mental health. I do not believe he would be admitted. Being really bad is not an illness on its own.
  22. I get your point however, religious or not I find it best to describe what Hitler did as evil...
  23. Mainly To seek the harm of another without just cause. There is also not following the golden rule. God not need to part of the equation. I think most of the 10 commandments are taken up in those two sentences. The only difference is the bits where it says God will get upset if not adored.
  24. I did not take it as sarcasm. Many do get accused of witchcraft and being pocessed by evil spirits who have nothing to do with it. Many also preach peace and love but do not show it.
  25. That along with the indoctrination and the family bonding makes it especially so.
