  1. Exactly! Christianity does not have a monopoly, on the truth. The key factor for salvation is all about `the Holy Spirit`--and that does not belong to Christians only--that works within each heart, and is power of GOD--is GOD. However, if one is a Christian Jesus is the point of salvation according to the `faith`--for others is what lies in the heart, the Holy Spirit. 2. The golden rule is not biblical only! Christianity:All things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye so to them; for this is the law and the prophets. Matthew 7:1 Confucianism: Do not do to others what you would not like yourself. Then there will be no resentment against you, either in the family or in the state. Analects 12:2 Buddhism: Hurt not others in ways that you yourself would find hurtful. Udana-Varga 5,1 Hinduism: This is the sum of duty; do naught onto others what you would not have them do unto you. Mahabharata 5,1517 Islam: No one of you is a believer until he desires for his brother that which he desires for himself. Sunnah Judaism: What is hateful to you, do not do to your fellowman. This is the entire Law; all the rest is commentary. Talmud, Shabbat 3id Taoism: Regard your neighbor’s gain as your gain, and your neighbor’s loss as your own loss. Tai Shang Kan Yin P’ien Zoroastrianism: That nature alone is good which refrains from doing another whatsoever is not good for itself. Dadisten-I-dinik, 94,5 http://www.teachingvalues.com/goldenrule.html I am in the middle of the Punjab and God didn`t create me a Hindu--how was I free to choose??? I there will be a new age where I will be judged where am I till then? If God is fair--why am I not like all the others? I thought that God denies no one if one love`s him and lives a sinless life. I agree--once you have a choice, then you can choose to follow whatever faith you believe. Jacques Dupuis--a great Jesuit!: Pathfinder for our Times--He gained notoriety for his ground-breaking theological work on understanding the place of other religions in God's one economy of salvation ``Exclusivism says no salvation outside the church. Inclusivism says all can be saved, but through Christ. Pluralism says there are many paths, and none are superior; give up Jesus Christ as the unique Savior. `` Jacques Dupuis has been a leading pathfinder for mainline Christian thinkers in their efforts to develop a Christian theology of religious pluralism and to come to grips with the implications of the ongoing facts on the ground. To wit: ``When we look at the planet on which we live, we see that in India and China today there are two-billion-five-hundred-million people with a relatively tiny Christian constituency among them. If God wanted everyone to be Christian--if it were necessary--would God not make available the means? `` ``A touchstone for Dupuis are the two axioms expressed in 1 Tim. 2:4-6 : God's will to save all, and the attribution to Christ of a pivotal role in how it will all happen. Exclusivism, said Dupuis, does not take God's will to save all seriously enough. And pluralism does not take seriously enough the central role God has accorded to Jesus Christ in God's plan for the salvation of all. Only inclusivism manages to hold the two fundamental axioms together at once. At the end of his life, in an effort to recognize more fully the "otherness" of the "other" (non-Christians), Dupuis traced out a fourth typology: inclusivist pluralism, by which he sought to recognize that other paths have authentic religious value, but he held to the conviction that the death and resurrection of Jesus are truly the cause of salvation for all. `` http://www.tomryancsp.org/jacques.htm A great man of God indeed!!--it is worth to read his theology. blessings and peace, Suzanne

  4. Taittiriya Upanishad-part 8 There is a bridge between time and Eternity; and this bridge is Atman, the Spirit of man. Neither day nor night cross that bridge, nor old age, nor death nor sorrow. Evil or sin cannot cross that bridge, because the world of the Spirit is pure. This is why when this bridge has been crossed, the eyes of the blind can see, the wounds of the wounded are healed, and the sick man becomes whole from his sickness. To one who goes over that bridge, the night becomes like unto day; because in the worlds of the Spirit there is a Light which is everlasting. (Death) When the body falls into weakness on account of old age or disease, even as a mango-fruit, or the fruit of the holy fig-tree, is loosened from its stem, so the Spirit of man is loosened from the human body and returns by the same way to Life, wherefrom he came. And even as a worker in gold, taking an old ornament, moulds it into a form newer and fairer, even so the Soul, leaving the body and unwisdom behind, goes into a form newer and fairer: a form like that of the ancestors in heaven, or of the celestial beings, or of the gods of light, or of the Lord of Creation, or of Brahma the Creator supreme, or a form of other beings. http://urantiabook.org/archive/readers/upanishads_bhagavad_gita.htm blessings, S
  5. I know that there is a thread going about part of my question, that is getting rather Biblical--but I have a question to everybody, but most of all to Christians and to those of the Jewish faith. I am a Hindu living in the Punjab before British colonization--my faith is based on the Bhagavad Gita. I live the `golden rule` and all that is needed of my faith. Same goes for my counterparts in Africa, in South America and in various parts of the world--we have never heard of Christianity--we live a pure, good life-do no harm, love one an other...when we die we get thrown into `the lake of fire`. Why? Are people in the modern world saved only because they hear of Christianity--how about all countless millions before? Especially when Christianity dosn`t believe in re-incarnation. What was the purpose of all that--a practice run for God? Is God so small minded as to exclude some? Why does the Christian God have favourites? Why does God hate me--personally?--If God does, why did he create me a Hindu? It wasn`t my choice. Are the people of Jewish faith also lost?--aren`t they the chosen ones?--they do not believe in Jesus, at this point. They are still waiting. Please if I could have an answer--but not Bible quotes--for I have no idea about that and have never read it. shanti, S

  7. ----St Francis is on top of it, so I hear . I am sure they will have a good home with a little patience! Thanks AV-- in Moon and Bucky`s name--meeoww!!!!You are one cool cat--well two, with Kay blessings,. Suzanne
  8. Hi AV--I am sorry to hear your headache with the `kitties`! I think the only possible solution to you corundum is --somehow finding a new home for them--first priority would be for Moon as he`s more difficult. Maybe you could put an ad up at a NUMBER of grocery store `bulletin boards`--the more the better!!--with a cute picture with a good tearjerker story-- written by the said `adoptees` themselves!!-- that always makes the difference --also placing the same on the internet. The `cat lady`--is out, so is the `mad-house`, as well as `your house` it seems to me. As for ASPCA I think that is a real bad idea--for if you call them who knows what will happen, plus you make an enemy of `Stan`--and who knows what that crowd is capable of. Hope it all resolves soon --I shall be holding thumbs and putting in a petition to St Francis tonight--!! blessings, Suzanne
  9. I have no time--but--in short man was created perfect--we get into trouble because of free will--we get cut off from God temporarily--but we shall all be united, just matter of``time`` to god. whence from whom we have preceded and shall procede. Like a leaf on a tree, we are all part of the tree. There is no good or evil, seems like it only--What we do comes back, as we are each connected , thus we do it unto ourselves--However I believe--like Origen--that we are perfect and are all will be saved, even the fallen angels. I have no time now.. blessings, S
  10. AV--I always love your life stories--truly appreciated!! You have had/have such a colourful life There is always some moral of your stories-- I often go back and re-read them. The problem I find that some posts just get deleted,--just the `philosophy` section seems to be having an archive of sorts. I Oh well-- sad because we can all learn from many of the posts as I often re-visit some that I like-- Thank you AV. love and light, S

  12. Thomas Merton is one of my `spiritual mentors`--and I thought I would share this: "Love is the revelation of our deepest personal meaning, value, and identity. But this revelation remains impossible as long as we are the prisoner of our own egoism. I cannot find myself in myself, but only in another. My true meaning and worth are shown to me not in my estimate of myself, but in the eyes of the one who loves me; and that one must love me as I am, with my faults and limitations, revealing to me the truth that these faults and limitations cannot destroy my worth in their eyes; and that I am therefore valuable as a person, in spite of my shortcomings, in spite of the imperfections of my exterior ‘package.’ The package is totally unimportant. What matters is this infinitely precious message which I can discover only in my love for another person. And this message, this secret, is not fully revealed to me unless at the same time I am able to see and understand the mysterious and unique worth of the one I love." - from "Love and Living" love and light, S
  13. Hi Rev`d Rattlesnake- I believe that always as the Chinese say: When the student is ready the teacher appears--he has. As we walk along the steps of life--towards better understanding spirit, we become more aware of what is of deeper meaning of what one may call `life of the soul`. As we progress along and become less attached to materiality, we become more aware of higher vibrations. The native people- being so close to nature have an affinity to feel the spirit of creation--as Nerstingwave says--`we are all connected`--and by we I do believe all that is around us. I am not a huge authority on spirit guides, animal totems or power animals--however I do believe that once you see and feel that something is perhaps of meaning to you, then they are! That is why they say-walk with open eyes, and open ears for all have a messages for us. We walk in a state of unconsciousness all the time and the odd moment when we are awake we see behind the veil. I think your wife, being of Romany blood probably knows more intuitively than most of us. So--she maybe more of an authority to answer. But--once you are aware of certain things around you you start becoming more in synch with `all` and that is when the messages come. We can all channel, we can all feel things and we all have the gift--some are just more aware. The future is not predetermined but there are only so many possibilities, so--these guides they just point in certain direction and it is up to you to choose the path, because they have more of a panoramic view of what is happening.Looking in -so to speak. The Raven for you is a message, the feather is a reminder every time you see it--reminder of the message!!--what that is?-you have to decipher it-- however certain animals mean certain things if they come to you. I have one message for you--always listen and never say never. As for your animal totem--only you know that. But when one appears like the other day--those are more messengers and whatever they signify. Animal guides are always with you--you just have to acknowledge them. They will advise you, warn you and perhaps at times guide you--their voice is very strong and their insight is very powerful. This raven is not your totem! Think about the circumstances surrounding your heart that morning and the question you would have liked him to have answer. You asked him to come, now listen well to what he has said. When you feel it is time--go out and look at the sky and the clouds there you will see clearly and distinctly the answer you seek--the answer to your question will be crystal clear--but make sure you are open and really want to hear the answer. At times it is not what one wants to hear--those times are better to leave it alone till you are ready! More shall come--for it is time for you to step ahead! Actually--the message is for you is mostly from my power animal--which incidentally is a Black Panther-- he knows much and has been around much longer than I have--I know all will now think I have lost it. The site below will be very helpful for you--and will have much meaning as you become more attuned to the different `spirits of creation`. `Raven is about the magical act of creation, internal magic and transformation along with miracle of a rebirth. Raven tells us to be aware of omens that become a harbinger of the mystical and exotic. He can show how to stir life without fear and teach to balance life's playful aspects. Raven also brings in the light of awareness and knowledge with opportunities of great changes that are in store for you. Raven will teach how to usher in these new energies. He shows how to dive into the depths of the inner being to illuminate the true self. Are you ready to uncover past conflicts and long forgotten emotional issues? Raven will teach how to transform your spirit. From the deepest part of you healing begins. What has been in darkness will now emerge into the light.` http://www.starstuff...tems/index.html I hope this helps you--the rest you have to unravel. blessings and peace, S
  14. Qrys- DG - I posted it because this is one of the strangest thing I have come across lately in a while. OK-- even if we get past all that--who would man the these `humanoids`?--How about taking care of the planet? Or how do more people come about--reproduction?--through a computer program? How about when something goes wrong? It amazes me that some are taking it seriously--when you look at the list of attendees at the conference. peace, S

Seems like the Dalai Lama maybe game. This is a real thought provoker --and the website is very interesting! --and if possible very frightening--the ethical, spiritual, moral and philosophical questions that it invokes. blessings, S http://2045.com/ The exert below in a nutshell is from: http://www.kipnews.o...012/08/01/8419/ `A prominent Russian scientist now says that such an achievement will be possible for the wealthy elite by roughly 2045 through a concept deeply studied and publicized by researchers like Steve Quayle and Stan Deyo. Often criticized as ‘conspiracy theory’ or bizarre science fiction back when analysts were blowing the whistle over this ‘privileged’ technology, the process involves generating fully functional holographic human avatars and transporting one’s ‘consciousness’ into an artificial brain. While the overall ‘immortality’ process is intended to be completed by 2045, the scientist states on his website that the act of transplanting a human brain into an artificial body will be available in as little as seven years. The rest of the project would extend all the way to 2045, ran by a ‘team of the world’s leading scientists’ working on the initiative.`
  16. For those who are interested!-- Book VII of The Republic: The Allegory of the Cave Here's a little story from Plato's most famous book, The Republic. Socrates is talking to a young follower of his named Glaucon, and is telling him this fable to illustrate what it's like to be a philosopher -- a lover of wisdom: Most people, including ourselves, live in a world of relative ignorance. We are even comfortable with that ignorance, because it is all we know. When we first start facing truth, the process may be frightening, and many people run back to their old lives. But if you continue to seek truth, you will eventually be able to handle it better. In fact, you want more! It's true that many people around you now may think you are weird or even a danger to society, but you don't care. Once you've tasted the truth, you won't ever want to go back to being ignorant! [socrates is speaking with Glaucon] [socrates:] And now, I said, let me show in a figure how far our nature is enlightened or unenlightened: --Behold! human beings living in a underground den, which has a mouth open towards the light and reaching all along the den; here they have been from their childhood, and have their legs and necks chained so that they cannot move, and can only see before them, being prevented by the chains from turning round their heads. Above and behind them a fire is blazing at a distance, and between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way; and you will see, if you look, a low wall built along the way, like the screen which marionette players have in front of them, over which they show the puppets. [Glaucon:] I see. And do you see, I said, men passing along the wall carrying all sorts of vessels, and statues and figures of animals made of wood and stone and various materials, which appear over the wall? Some of them are talking, others silent. You have shown me a strange image, and they are strange prisoners. Like ourselves, I replied; and they see only their own shadows, or the shadows of one another, which the fire throws on the opposite wall of the cave? True, he said; how could they see anything but the shadows if they were never allowed to move their heads? And of the objects which are being carried in like manner they would only see the shadows? Yes, he said. And if they were able to converse with one another, would they not suppose that they were naming what was actually before them? Very true. And suppose further that the prison had an echo which came from the other side, would they not be sure to fancy when one of the passers-by spoke that the voice which they heard came from the passing shadow? No question, he replied. To them, I said, the truth would be literally nothing but the shadows of the images. That is certain. And now look again, and see what will naturally follow if the prisoners are released and disabused of their error. At first, when any of them is liberated and compelled suddenly to stand up and turn his neck round and walk and look towards the light, he will suffer sharp pains; the glare will distress him, and he will be unable to see the realities of which in his former state he had seen the shadows; and then conceive some one saying to him, that what he saw before was an illusion, but that now, when he is approaching nearer to being and his eye is turned towards more real existence, he has a clearer vision, -what will be his reply? And you may further imagine that his instructor is pointing to the objects as they pass and requiring him to name them, -- will he not be perplexed? Will he not fancy that the shadows which he formerly saw are truer than the objects which are now shown to him? Far truer. And if he is compelled to look straight at the light, will he not have a pain in his eyes which will make him turn away to take and take in the objects of vision which he can see, and which he will conceive to be in reality clearer than the things which are now being shown to him? True, he said. And suppose once more, that he is reluctantly dragged up a steep and rugged ascent, and held fast until he 's forced into the presence of the sun himself, is he not likely to be pained and irritated? When he approaches the light his eyes will be dazzled, and he will not be able to see anything at all of what are now called realities. Not all in a moment, he said. He will require to grow accustomed to the sight of the upper world. And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other objects in the water, and then the objects themselves; then he will gaze upon the light of the moon and the stars and the spangled heaven; and he will see the sky and the stars by night better than the sun or the light of the sun by day? Certainly. Last of he will be able to see the sun, and not mere reflections of him in the water, but he will see him in his own proper place, and not in another; and he will contemplate him as he is. Certainly. He will then proceed to argue that this is he who gives the season and the years, and is the guardian of all that is in the visible world, and in a certain way the cause of all things which he and his fellows have been accustomed to behold? Clearly, he said, he would first see the sun and then reason about him. And when he remembered his old habitation, and the wisdom of the den and his fellow-prisoners, do you not suppose that he would felicitate himself on the change, and pity them? Certainly, he would. And if they were in the habit of conferring honours among themselves on those who were quickest to observe the passing shadows and to remark which of them went before, and which followed after, and which were together; and who were therefore best able to draw conclusions as to the future, do you think that he would care for such honours and glories, or envy the possessors of them? Would he not say with Homer, Better to be the poor servant of a poor master, and to endure anything, rather than think as they do and live after their manner? Yes, he said, I think that he would rather suffer anything than entertain these false notions and live in this miserable manner. Imagine once more, I said, such an one coming suddenly out of the sun to be replaced in his old situation; would he not be certain to have his eyes full of darkness? To be sure, he said. And if there were a contest, and he had to compete in measuring the shadows with the prisoners who had never moved out of the den, while his sight was still weak, and before his eyes had become steady (and the time which would be needed to acquire this new habit of sight might be very considerable) would he not be ridiculous? Men would say of him that up he went and down he came without his eyes; and that it was better not even to think of ascending; and if any one tried to loose another and lead him up to the light, let them only catch the offender, and they would put him to death. No question, he said. This entire allegory, I said, you may now append, dear Glaucon, to the previous argument; the prison-house is the world of sight, the light of the fire is the sun, and you will not misapprehend me if you interpret the journey upwards to be the ascent of the soul into the intellectual world according to my poor belief, which, at your desire, I have expressed whether rightly or wrongly God knows. But, whether true or false, my opinion is that in the world of knowledge the idea of good appears last of all, and is seen only with an effort; and, when seen, is also inferred to be the universal author of all things beautiful and right, parent of light and of the lord of light in this visible world, and the immediate source of reason and truth in the intellectual; and that this is the power upon which he who would act rationally, either in public or private life must have his eye fixed. http://webspace.ship.edu/cgboer/platoscave.html Actually if you want a very simple popular version of this--it is Illusions by Richard Bach--his story is based on the above, as is Jonathan Livingston Seagull. blessings and peace, S
  17. Just a-wondering --is this forum a place to trying to find a common a denominator within religions, belief systems and understandings--or is this place a forum to find more arguments, differences within and amongst our different beliefs. If we follow the latter path--all that comes out is more tension, agression, antagonism and negativity. Aren`t we suppose to try and undersand the other--we don`t have to accept it, but respect it and try to understand it--see with `heart` where the other is coming from. What does it matter in the realm of things who believes or what an other believes if it makes them a better person? Whether one prays to a statue or an image or to the entire Greek pantheon, whether the rearl Buddhism or Hinduism is if you go study in an Ashram only-- If this place , the ULC is a philosiphical way in accepting all and trying to find compromise, peace and serenity --then we should all simply pat each other on the back --and say, `well done the way you are follwing your path and nice to understand more about your faith`--for it all leads to the same place--. Well for most. Please don`t ask me where, for I shall not dignify it with an answer. This is not a comparative religion course at university where every detail has to be examined, proven and shown that it is the exact theology, philosophy or written truth according to `the ` texts. Then I shall go once more back to university and take some more comparative religion, as well as theology classes. This , place, maybe I am insane--as we most seem to be, have different ideas of creating a better environment for our future, for the world and the whole human species. Maybe very`new age`--but hey, it makes all kind of `woo-woos` to make up the world, consider me one. Only my humble observation, it is not a Phd that makes a person--a cousin of mine always says, a Phd is just `Piled higher and deeper--and he has 2 Phd`s in science--a measure of a man is how he respects others, life, nature and the whole of creation-and lives a noble life and the world becomes a better by them/ me being here. blessings and peace, S

  19. Not at all, ego is not mere mind--but if you allow ego free reign, uncontrolled to a degree, that is when we get into trouble. Ego is rooted in more of materiality than the spiritual, it has the free will to choose--but the more ego is in control the more disconnected we get from `god`, from `higher self` or `universal consciousness`--or whatever you may call that. However if you do not believe only in the physical, just the material --then you have to decide for yourself what the purpose of existence is. In this area we can only speak for ourselves as man has pondered these philosophical , theological questions since the dawn of time, that is why he has never stopped seeking god. We have an innate need to be simply more than clay--. You maybe right,or I. All is theory--and the definition of theory is: In the context of science, a theory is a well-established explanation for scientific data. Theories typically cannot be proven, but they can become established if they are tested by several different scientific investigators. A theory can be disproven by a single contrary result. [Late Latin theria, from Greek theri, from theros, spectator : probably the, a viewing + -oros, seeing (from horn, to see).] http://chemistry.about.com/od/chemistryglossary/g/theory-definition.htm So the explanation is my theory! blessings and peace, S
  20. I have been to Thailand and disagree with you--maybe it seems so that the images are worshipped, maybe some do that, but the actual `faith` does not say that at all--it is symbolism. As with Catholics, we don`t pray to statues or images either which many think, they are simply reminders for us to remember! That is why new churches are rather bare of statues and images as to dispel these assumptions. blessings and peace, S
  21. I will live this day as if it is my last.I will waste not a moment mourning yesterday`s misfortunes, Yesterday`s defeats, yesterday`s aches of the heart, for why should I throw good after bad? I will live this day as if it is my last. This day is all I have and these hours are now my eternity. I greet this sunrise with cries of joy as a prisoner who is reprieved from death. I lift mine arms with thanks for this priceless gift of a new day. So too, I will beat upon my heart with gratitude as I consider all who greeted yesterday`s sunrise who are no longer with the living today. I am indeed a fortunate man and today`s hours are but a bonus, undeserved. Why have I been allowed to live this extra day when others, far better than I, have departed? Is it that they have accomplished their purpose while mine is yet to be achieved? Is this another opportunity for me to become the man I know I can be? The Greatest Salesman In The World/ Og Mandino

  23. Actually I was about to answer your previous post,---which probably I can`t but will try : how can you disprove it as much as I can`t prove it. --yes, laws of nature but there are numerous combinations of outcomes according to theoretical physicists in the universe plus, different interference factors on top of it all--I would think it is the same on the smaller scale such as our brains.--yes, new age, like a mini universe. However, regarding the above--you are right, but the possibilities are almost endless, but there is a finite number, and within that limit we have(probably ) the choices--how can I prove it? I can`t my `theory`--On the larger scale however this is not according to me, but a few theoretical physicist regarding the entire universe , maybe that is where free will comes in--especially when 11 dimensions are possible. As you can tell I am not left brained.--so I shall just quote what makes some sense to me--and general so above so below, I presume it works on a smaller scale as well--it works on a large scale such as the universe. January 24, 2011 Our universe might be really, really big — but finite. Or it might be infinitely big. Both cases, says physicist Brian Greene, are possibilities, but if the latter is true, so is another position: There are only so many ways matter can arrange itself within that infinite universe. Eventually, matter has to repeat itself and arrange itself in similar ways. So if the universe is infinitely large, it is also home to infinite parallel universes. Does that sound confusing? Try this: Think of the universe like a deck of cards. "Now, if you shuffle that deck, there's just so many orderings that can happen," Greene says. "If you shuffle that deck enough times, the orders will have to repeat. Similarly, with an infinite universe and only a finite number of complexions of matter, the way in which matter arranges itself has to repeat." Greene, the author of The Elegant Universe and The Fabric of the Cosmos, tackles the existence of multiple universes in his latest book, The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos. Recent discoveries in physics and astronomy, he says, point to the idea that our universe may be one of many universes populating a grander multiverse. "You almost can't avoid having some version of the multiverse in your studies if you push deeply enough in the mathematical descriptions of the physical universe," he says. "There are many of us thinking of one version of parallel universe theory or another. If it's all a lot of nonsense, then it's a lot of wasted effort going into this far-out idea. But if this idea is correct, it is a fantastic upheaval in our understanding." http://www.npr.org/2...erses-may-exist There are few points below that sort of makes sense to me---and some things relate to this in some way. http://www.voting.uk...com/bgreene.htm peace, S
