  1. I read all of Nietzsche's works (in German), how about you?
  2. And your sample is better than my sample because? And it is not about accepting or rejecting his philosophy it is about actually understanding what he is talking about. I think the problem is further enlarged by the fact that his most popular work: Also sprach Zarathustra, is not the best suitable book to start with in understanding his philosophy.
  3. Because every time I discuss Nietzsche's works with people they produce some caricature of his philosophy and when asked for details they just do not know.
  4. I was going to say that as well. I find it interesting that many people have an opinion on Nietzsche's work but very few have actually read his books.
  5. Faith in hope is what many look for. Nietzsche wrote is nicely: Hope is the worst of evils, for it prolongs the torment of man In man's torment he longs for a liberator who is not from this world and thereby he commits himself to a world not real.
  6. Like Bernie Madoff's annual 10% return? I wonder if the real satisfaction of faith is the moment when someone else if buggered into it, as the payback in some pyramid scheme.
  7. I read that book once, more than a decade ago. I do not think it is a particularly good book by the way and certainly not very scholarly. But in my opinion the Talmud quotes in that book are not lies the Talmud does list those things.
  8. Yes the Talmud is loaded with statements I find very offensive. Michael Hoffmann II wrote a book with many controversial Talmud references: In this scholarly and deeply considered work, the author documents his provocative thesis that Judaism is not the religion of the Old Testament, but the newly formalized belief system of the Pharisees, which arose in Babylon with the commitment of the formerly oral “tradition of the elders” to writing, in the wake of the crucifixion of Israel’s Messiah and the destruction of the Temple. Basing his findings on authoritative Judaic sources, Hoffman demonstrates that Judaism is a man-made religion of tradition and superstition, which represents the institutionalized nullification of Biblical law and doctrine. Liberating the reader from the accumulated shackles of decades of misinformation, this book shows that Judaism’s God is not the God of Israel, but the strange gods of Talmud and Kabbalah, and the racial self-worship they inculcate. http://www.amazon.co...n/dp/0970378408
  9. Actually in my experience those who turn a total blind eye to the actions of Israel are all fundamentalist Christians. Also there are many orthodox Jews who do not even recognize the secular state called Israel.
  10. The Jews I know are also appalled by the actions of Israel against the Palestinians. So I do not believe "the Jews" is a fair characterization.
  11. I consider the bombing of Nakasaki and Hiroshima a crime against humanity.
  12. In a wonderful farmhouse in Switzerland lived Senor Mouse.............
  13. First of all I think there has never been a church based solely or as a core on the Nag Hammadi Library. Second, I think it is very reasonable to assume as is also written in the Wikipedia document that: In his "Introduction" to The Nag Hammadi Library in English, James Robinson suggests that these codices may have belonged to a nearby Pachomian monastery, and were buried after Bishop Athanasius condemned the use of non-canonical books in his Festal Letter of 367 AD. http://en.wikipedia....Hammadi_library Thirdly many texts cannot be uniquely deciphered or deciphered at all, I do not mean we do not know the literal meaning of the Coptic words but we simply do not understand what the phrases actually mean, there are a lot of references to things and allusions we do not understand or are unclear about. But having said that, anything goes in the ULC, so if you want to base your church on a couple of papyri found in a jar go for it.
  14. Going south, not to a city but an island, Ibiza. From the film More "Ibiza Bar":
  15. Your children are adults now and they make choices in life just as you did. I think all you can do is hope they will change their minds and want contact with you. I they don't there is nothing you can do. Forcing it won't help and it may even open even more old wounds. What I would recommend is putting you hard life experiences to use in helping those who are addicted to drugs right now and to tell them about the life changing impacts drugs can have. It might help you cope with your sorrows in knowing you are helping others preventing these things. And this work might perhaps even raise some level of respect by your children.
  16. Look how much Norway was "shielded" from the constant changes in Europe in the last few centuries:
