  1. october 18, 1995 I picked up a good dog for fostering and three days turned into fourteen years. she became my muse and a deareset friend. nori was the lovliest girl, an understatement. for the dogs and cats, like her who wait, a happy home your blessings, prayers and spells are welcome!
  2. oy, my sincerest condolences on your loss pete I had no idea.. since my computer went kaput I haven't been able to visit ulcuk I'm so sorry. both of my parents are gone, it's a sad club at first, isn't it? the fire is contained 3,100 acres lost, thank god the wind turned. it was awful the first night, we're only about four miles from the base of the mountain so seeing in flames was so sad. vitki, can you see mount diablo from your neck of the woods? I'll find you a picture of the mountain pete! (and maybe one of the orbs on the summit!)
  3. whoops! no, she's not - we were talking about the changes in people as they age and become more frail a while back and I promised to bring her to the mountain with me sorry to have caused alarm (!)
  4. and sent good wishes to your mom from there (I think I promised I would ) since I don't have a great sense of direction (I think I was facing east) sent love and good wishes to the other side of the planet about halfway down the mountain, we stopped at a lookout with the most amazing tree.. of course, I had to climb it. haven't done that in decades, it.was.unbelievable. I decided that you are never too old to climb a tree!
  5. I performed a wedding in orange county about five years ago while a resident of another state. I called the orange county clerks office and found all the information I needed. I would contact the county clerks office for the particulars of that county.
  6. I see the double standard the vitki points to, young women who deflower young men as opposed to young men who deflower young women. when I was young, my parents didn't talk about it - inferred though was "good girls don't". er, yes they do.. as a parent myself, we talked about sexuality, no shaming involved, but an invitation to consider the ramifications of one's decisions and a directive that one needs to be mature enough to take responsibility for one's actions. my daughter was quite a few years older than I was when she decided to have sex for the first time. I believe that was due to open and honest discourse from early on, a strong sense of self and the support she needed to make good decisions that worked for her. I feel very strongly that I would have raised a son with the same love, respect and support to make good decisions that I did her
  7. gorgeous day in the east bay

  8. what a horrible story pete! on wednesday I had the pleasure of meeting a three month old foal, that wanted to do nothing more than kiss me and nibble my shirt sleeve.. what brings a person to look into the eyes of a baby creature and think, yes, I will kill him, and cut off his ear and his genitals? I'm having trouble wishing less on the perpetrators and thanks for reminding of wicca's disdain for cruelty
  9. okay! just purchased ten pounds of amaco air dry clay from michael's for $8.99 will let you know how it goes, it feels great, very much like kiln fire...
  10. ugh, awful. sending hope and healing to violet and her family
  11. dreadful. sending them love and hope for relief from their pain, sadness and horror
  12. someone recommended one from a craft store - like michael's , I'll figure out who that was there is also a clay that you can fire in a regular oven, ditto on that. I've been tempted to set them out in the good ole sunshine and see what happens.
  13. swc, is there a brand of air dry that you recommend? and can you wet it down in process to keep it from cracking while you work or does it crack in the drying process? the runes are grand!
  14. I don't know how I missed this nice work! love clay, I'll try to find photos of my dog sculptures. I'm also interested to hear how people like the air dry clay. I've only used regular clay and kiln but was going to give it a whirl to make a little sign for my business..
  15. it's (mostly) young men making a fashion statement, isn't it? wittingly or unwittingly. I must admit I find it fascinating - How do they not fall is all I usually wonder. I don't see the nerve damage angle.. and I kind of doubt that (many) young men choose to wear their pants low because of nerve damage. lordie, you do realize that the ulc is not an exclusively christian organization don't you? so "as christians" excludes many here but I don't really understand your comment. .
  16. You post/ask as if you've never read and/or understood the United States Constitution. Why do you propose that liberty and "religion" are separate ideas/protections? Who has advanced such a cleaver prior to you? er, maybe not. do you have firm grasp on the laws and governance of austrailia? this question does not only apply to us citizens. sheesh happy. liberty please
  17. I hope they do a celebration of some sort, with flute and bagpipes and lots of guitar oh, and dogs should be welcome .. one person has changed the fabric of that family good for you! better for them, right? I loved that she wanted a hug!
  18. wow! that's big. well done. it's so hard to watch people be so mis-guided. so full of their own agenda and ways that they can't see that their ways lack meaning for so many. and your friend's memory waiting. to your original post, what you wrote in red was terribly spot on - it illustrates the particular reasons that I can't/won't worship this loving god of theirs. because I just don't see it.. maybe it's a funeral thing but I heard the same things. between giving the universe the middle finger and being with my family, I was inundated with religion when I went back east to bury my friend. so there was the service, then my dad's birthday, so I went to mass with my sister, then I went to a novena with her, oh, then I sat shiva for three nights. this righteous god was front and center.. and I.just.didn't. get.it.
