We don't have much to go on. I suspect that Ben probably doesn't want to "play games with God." Or with the Pastor. He was punched for not being "serious" about God. We are also told that Ben was a "smart kid" and this made him "dangerous." He probably did his own thinking. I suspect this is what the pastor means when he said that Ben, "pushed his buttons." Now, Ben has something to think about.

First things first. You are searching. What do you seek? -
I used to play the game a lot. It can be fun.

You found your path. Congratulations and blessings.

In Academic terms, the spectrum of grades is: Excellent -- Good -- Fair -- Fail.

Context would help. The weather can be "fair" -- meaning "mild." Hair can also be "fair."

When alternative energy -- for instance tidal power -- saves money; it will expand. -

Welcome to the board. Your perspective will make things interesting. -
What do you want to do? Do you want to run a soup kitchen? Shelter homeless cats? Run a literacy project? It might make a difference. Do you want government funding? Do you want private funding? It might make a difference. A lot of people won't donate to a church. Some people will only donate to a church. Some people will only donate to their own church. It could make a difference. More details, please.

Understanding Islam - Worth The Effort
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to VonNoble's topic in Monotheist Theologies & Scriptures
I think it would bring more light and less heat; if we can make distinctions between different groups within Islam. Talking about "the Muslims" makes no distinctions between very different groups. There are, for instance, the Kurds of Iraq. Good descent people, who are under attack from bat sh*t crazy loons. Or the minority Muslims in Pakistan who are being murdered -- by other Muslims. Do we speak of "The Christians" without distinction? There must be 10,000 different kinds of Christian. Do we speak of "The Jews" without distinction? No. At least, I don't. Talking about "the Muslims" is not helpful, either. -

What??? Why are you dragging Atheism into this? -
The Honorary Doctor of Divinity degree is not only legal; it is court tested. Then again, there are few practical uses for any honorary degree. In other words, it is legal, but not useful. I can't imagine how it might enhance a career. It is not prestigious. But yes, you can be addressed as "Doctor." Don't do it in a medical setting. That could be big trouble.

Confused...
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to Qwerty's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
I agree. It is the Monastery's hyper link and motto. As of 2006, we are not connected to them They split off. We are the original church. The first congregation, founded by Kirby Hensley in 1959, is still in Modesto, California. The Monastery was the Church's first website. They broke off and became an independent entity. -
Atheists are anything but a uniform group; since they don't have anything in common except non-belief. Some are militant. Others simply lack belief and don't care what anybody else is believing or not believing.
-
Within the ranks of Christianity, there is "Liberation Theology." It is anything but conservative. And there are some very conservative Atheists. We have to look past these silly labels and see real people.

Understanding Islam - Worth The Effort
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to VonNoble's topic in Monotheist Theologies & Scriptures
At the present time, there are no Muslims in my social circle. When I did have Muslim friends; they were a peaceful bunch that wouldn't hurt anybody. It was much easier for me to know what they were thinking, when I was having lunch with them. -

I'm not real clear on how Muslims are supposed to register disapproval of terrorism. There is no central authority. Neither are the Non-Muslim countries in the business of registering objections. Registering objections with an Islamist-Fascist State wouldn't be very smart. -
It still is. If you want to see humor used as a weapon, go to You Tube and see what George Carlin has done with it.

Humor can demean and belittle. It can wound. It can incite. It can insult, degrade and abuse. Humor can also defuse tension and make people more peaceful. Humor can educate and increase understanding. It depends on how humor is used and why.
