"Spooky" Science & Reason
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to SisterSalome's topic in Science, Technology & Innovation
I also think highly of Lawrence Krauss. -
I think that you are looking for connections that don't exist. Many of the godless are strongly patriotic and oriented to civics. Many of the godly will say, "I bow down only to God." Knowing how someone feels about government or religion gives nothing useful to use for extrapolation. It's not there.

"Spooky" Science & Reason
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to SisterSalome's topic in Science, Technology & Innovation
I prefer what Stephen Hawking has to say about the origin of the Universe than Genesis. -
First, a thought experiment. Suppose that God exists. What would change? Suppose that God does not exist. What would change? A church is it's people. It is an internet church, without a brick and mortar existence. Community is where we find it or make it. In this case, on line. We have a sense of humor. The Church is not a joke. If you do a Google search for Agnostic Church, we are what turns up. Now and then, I like to spend some time with the Godless. On an unrelated note, I posted for you on Tribal.

On this particular chart, I am an Agnostic Atheist. The probability of God's existence seems exceedingly small, but still greater than absolute zero. It would also be accurate to classify me as an Apathetic Agnostic. I don't actually care whether or not God exists. "We don't know and we don't care."

"Spooky" Science & Reason
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to SisterSalome's topic in Science, Technology & Innovation
It turns out that reality is stranger than we thought. We don't need metaphysics when physics is so odd. IMO. -
Everything? I also have membership in an Agnostic Church. It is Agnostic rather than interfaith like ULC. I doubt it is what you are looking for. Still, if you really mean "everything," let me know. I also have an Atheist Church group. Not much life in it, but if you really mean "everything" ............ There are a few here who identify as Agnostic. This might be a better place for you to explore Agnosticism, if that's what you want.

House Church
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to RevBates's topic in * Welcome - ULC Minister's Introduction Junction *
For me, house church suggests a level of closeness that is not found in a larger, institutional setting. Who attends the house church? People that are welcome in someone's home. Church is not always the best word. Sometimes, the group is about meditation or healing or simple fellowship. -

America has it's good points. Freedom of -- and from -- religion is great. -
Hello All:
Something odd. I went to www.ulcihq.com
I got a redirect. The domain site is up for sale.

evidence for the supernatural
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to cuchulain's topic in Philosophy & Theory
That has always been a problem with death cults. It is why Islamist suicide bombers are a problem now. -
evidence for the supernatural
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to cuchulain's topic in Philosophy & Theory
Maybe. Maybe not. Knowing with evidence that there is an afterlife would be a good start. Only a start. This is how knowledge increases. Incrementally. -

Let the facts be verified. Let the consequences be. -
evidence for the supernatural
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to cuchulain's topic in Philosophy & Theory
It is a matter of perspective. If it is possible to demonstrate that ghosts exist; it only means that ghosts are part of the natural order. That is a big if. Conclusive proof is still pending. -
The Book Of Revelation
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to Coolhand's topic in Monotheist Theologies & Scriptures
The problem with Revelation is that the symbolism is so thick that it can mean anything. My personal favorite is the interpretation that supports my biasses. It is a parable about Church and State relations. The woman in red is The Church. She is riding the Beast. The Beast is the State. The State is supporting the Church in an unnatural way. In the woman's hand is a sparkling beverage. The Church is getting intoxicated with the temporal power of The State. It will end badly for the woman. The Beast eats her flesh. After the Church losses it's independence, it becomes nothing more than part of the State. The Beast has consumed her.
