evidence for the supernatural
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to cuchulain's topic in Philosophy & Theory
Anyone who does claim to have all the answers, is not to be trusted. The Universe is a many layered mystery and an infinite source of awe. For all that, completely natural. -

I have been having trouble with the reply function. The quote key malfunctions. Clicking on reply also malfunctions. -
The Book Of Revelation
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to Coolhand's topic in Monotheist Theologies & Scriptures
Whenever a street preacher hands me a tract about the end times; Revelation is cited as being about the future. I'm not in position to say this is or is not correct. I do know this is what is being pushed at street level. -

evidence for the supernatural

I have my own biases and I want to be clear about them. Everything that exists is part of the natural order. If it should somehow turn out that God exists; then God would be part of the natural order. Is it possible that God exists? Yes. It is possible. The proability of God's existence is greater than absolute zero. Then again, based on the available evidence -- the probability of God's existence is so low that it can be ignored. That is only part of it. There is a second part. Again, these are my biases. Even if God exists -- so what? God's actual existence or non existence changes nothing. If this world is the best work that God can manage, I'm not impressed. On balance, there is no evidence that God actually exists. I do not believe. -
Happy Holidays!
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to scottedward's topic in Good Wishes, Gratitude, Blessings and Prayers
The symbolism is innocent enough. At a time of great darkness, people like to celebrate the renewal of (spiritual) Light. Merry Christmas to all, Christian and otherwise. Happy Solstice. -

Thank you. Happy and healthy New Year. -
Continuing the thought:It was the Protestant churches that translated church Bible Latin into the spoken language of the day. That was when the laity got to see all the awful things lurking in their book. Of course, there were good things in the book as well. With careful cherry picking, the Bible has much to commend it.

From the beginning of the Protestant Church movements; the Protestants put more focus on the laity reading the Bible than the Catholic Church. The Bible is a huge source of homophobia. This is also a rich source of Jewish homophobia. The Catholic Church was, itself, the authority in peoples lives. Protestants switched that authority to Scripture.

Were you drinking diet soda, sweetened with aspartame/NutraSweet? Aspartame is a neurol toxin which mimics the symptoms of MS and makes real MS worse. It gives me a different reaction. It's very bad stuff. -
Free Will And Thanking God
Jonathan H. B. Lobl replied to Brother Kaman's topic in Stories & Texts Archive
This is interesting. If people were turning to the wizards and cunning folk for help; does that mean they were getting help? It sounds like a validation for magic. -
I'll take that as an actual question. We must all find the answers that we can live with. Our own answers. In the end; all anyone can do is listen to the music of their soul -- then dance to it. IMO By all means. Your answers are not my answers. You're not wrong. You're not mistaken. You're different. I'm fine with that.
