I enjoy the wide range of perspectives here and feel comfortable with the very tolerant and intelligent members who grace these halls. I feel the Mods and Gods keep a good handle on things and allow folks to be themselves. They are not too strict and not too lax all at the same time.

Here are some of the more interesting sections I found while perusing Origen's rebuttal of the writtings of Celsus. So what might this secret teaching be that even most the Apostles weren't privvy to. Remember Yeshua pulled one of the Apostles (I forgot which one) to the side and gave him a secret teaching that he could not reveal to the others. Sounds as if Origen is admitting to the accusations that Moses borrowed his stories from other cultures. These folks were a few thousand years closer to the facts and before the time of the great destruction of anything which would speak against the originality of Moses's teachings. The man who allegedly is the biological father of Yeshua in this instance is a roman soldier named Pantera. They have found a gravesite in Europe of a Roman soldier named Pantera from Sidon who lived during that time period and could have been the Pantera in the story but it is all speculation. I just thought it was an interesting rumor that was spread by non-believers of the time. Something we rarely get a glimpse of in the age of Orthodoxy.

Here is a nice website with the writings of the early church fathers. http://www.earlychristianwritings.com/ Origen responding to Celsus I found interesting once one gets through the opening boasting.

Ditto. Jeans are for all occasions. If I can't wear jeans to a function I don't go. I wear jeans or nothing at all.

I don't recall ever reading anything in Taoist/Buddhist/Zen writings about the origins of ego or desire. I think the Buddha ignored the question each time it was brought up.

Thank you my friend! I've been dying to read it.

Just a note: If anyone runs into the Lotus Sutra on-line somewhere please drop me a PM. I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Yes an astute observation. As I look in a mirror and follow the circular collection of my lint it is collected in a clockwise motion. I wonder if it collects the same direction in the southern hemishpere? This must be proof of something! People with outties miss out on so much :}
