  1. Sorry, but if He is all knowing, what is there to change?
  2. Which contradicts your original statement in which you state there is life only on one. They never claimed life does or doesn't exist elsewhere, and are open to evidence of it. Which is what they've been saying, as well. That God could exist but there is no evidence for them to believe, but are open to it should evidence present itself. Not true. Scientist have discovered fossilized microbes on mars, which means there was once water there and there was some form of life, as well. They also theorize there is still an existing layer of water beneath it's surface somewhere.
  3. As devil's advocate for a moment. You already admit there are billions of planets, so as much does not fit in our own little galaxy, then you, by deduction, admit there are multiple galaxies in the universe. With so many across light distances away, it is impossible for anyone to know for certain that life only exists on one planet out of billions. That, itself, was a poor declaration as evidence.
  4. Sorry to correct, but it's "Merry". Thank you, anyway, and blessings to you, as well.
  5. There's a slight problem with your explanation, Dan. If all He saw was wickedness, then why spare Noah and his family? Because they were good. So good did exist before, therefore all was not wicked. But sin still survived, why? Because Noah and his family survived. Man has a tendency to lean toward sin. Why? Maybe because they were created that way? See the paradox in detail.
  6. Christ, Himself, had taught to question everything to prove authenticity. For He warned us there would be false prophets after Him. That is why questioning is not a flaw.
  7. If you have read "Moby Dick", then you know of Captain Ahab, yet he does not really exists. That is their point of view.
  8. I beg to differ here. Anytime someone mediates a solution agreeable to opposing parties with opposing views on something, that is the very definition of diplomacy. It requires speaking a common language, if you will, between to separate cultures, groups, individuals, or whatever the case may be. It only becomes conflict based when an ultimatum is issued against their interests.
  9. This thread is straying far from the topic, which is made all the worse since creator of it can't seem to focus on it either.
  10. Ok, now I'm lost. What does this have to do with the topic of this thread?
  11. I think I just got lucky. Sorta.
  12. But what makes you think you "chose" to believe correctly? How are you certain your God is the right one out of so many, of which there are quite a few with similar claims or narratives.
  13. Just understand, Jonathan, I am only arguing from the lens of what I understand another person's belief to be. Of course, that means I'm not always right, but am still grasping information as I go. Personally, I do believe there is something unexplainable that exists and can't be either proven or disproved. I grew up Christian, after all. But, as I got older, I started to see that maybe some of the things that Christ in the Bible was saying could be seen another way, similar to more Eastern thinking, or more Gnostic than is accepted by mainstream Christianity now or even when it became developed into a church after His death/ascendence. Can't say it's a God, or universal consciousness that can be tapped into, or what. Yet, for me, there is something greater than just us out there. Sorry, I have been accused of being quite wordy. I just can't elaborate as concisely as most folks.
  14. i don't know where you are, friend, but kids here are taught alot more than to just knock over desks for cover. If and when it is known where and how many active shooters there are on the premises, then a plan could be made for the safest option to protect everyone. To simply start evacuation, exposes more targets for shooter. Barriers can deter as well as protect. Every situation is different. Also, consider any actions taken may also hinder or alter actions of law enforcement upon arrival of scene, which isn't always optimal to kids safety.
  15. Just as anyone can dismiss God without proof. There are numerous religions with claims to an authentic God, while also claiming the other religions follow a false God. Accepting one or another God would also require faith, but doesn't necessarily mean they believe in the right God, right? Wouldn't burden of proof then validate belief?
  16. Apologies, but I am a bit too perplexed to understand what you're getting at. There's a gist in there, but I'm a bit confused. Are you asking how to establish speaking engagements and how to present yourself?
  17. There are many who subscribe to the label of Atheist, and you give only one possibility as to why, when there is at least another reason. Atheist can believe there is or isn't a God, but absent proof of existence, won't. Just like believing there's life on planet X that resides in a galaxy millions of light years away from Earth. That life may be there, or it may not, so until there's evidence of it, some won't believe it does, or doesn't, for that matter. There's no compelling reason to believe, without evidence.
  18. Maybe he understands, but...as I previously said...he doesn't accept it.
  19. Bravo! Exactly, my friend. I had argued with someone about this similarly in a Christian context somewhere. I stated that Jesus didn't intend to have a religion formed to worship him, but rather have people emulate him and have faith to be able to do the things he could do. Yet, as he was Jewish, he still revered God. Didn't sit too well with the other guy, for some reason. In honor of Atwater Vitki: Skol!
  20. Yeah, I figured all that. Not sure he'd have gotten the gist until you just explained it.
  21. In a roundabout way, she asks do scientist think God exists? Answers, they can neither say that a God exist, nor that one doesn't exist, as there are no observable consequence. (Short version.)
  22. Now you are overthinking. My point was a deity isn't always necessary for a belief system to be a religion, hence the reference of some people actually worshipping (for lack of a better term) nature. So, your issue is what is the non-belief. I made no intention on questioning what you personally believe, for I know enough by now not to have to.
  23. What you say may well be true, especially to you. Again, I simply made one example. I am well aware of many differing views, as well as beliefs, and stated so. The question was how it would be a belief if something didn't exist. In truth, even if you don't think so, it isn't always as less complicated as you present, either. So, in kind of like Schrodinger-esqe situation, we are both wrong and right. Even in that we have similarities as we do differences. There is no escaping differences, as that makes distinctions, whether we like them or not.
  24. I agree for the most part. I don't laugh, except where the humor is obvious. At the same time, I learn a little bit about differing views each time some members do clash, or argue, for lack of a better description. Everything contributes to the condition of the world, beit local or global. That should be the focus of man's survival. To tolerate and accept each other without destroying EVERYTHING during the process. Science proves we are suppose to be the stewards of our Earth, and largely fail because of differing beliefs and greed. Some religions also state the same. We cannot survive without each other's comfort and empathy. Which is why those like Mike are greatly needed and appreciated, at least by me. Welcome to the forum, btw.
