  2. I heard awhile back at a friends funeral....I don't think there was a dry eye in the gathering...it was played on a loop while the attendees viewed the open casket.I will def use it at my next funeral because of the feelings it instills. Blessings of Peace, Here is a bio on the musician,
  3. Rev. Cam - Handfasting is merely the ceremony and nothing more be done in California than filing the simple paperwork the County Clerk requires in the county the couple gets their license in. THIS is the closest ceremony I can find to the one I am familiar with and have performed in Northern California. The only real difference in my ceremony is the holding of hands, crossed between facing bride and groom "X"'d, grooms right hand to brides right and left to left creating the Infinity symbol before "tying the knot"....the ceremony mentioned only has bride hold groom one hand as they stand. This is done prior to the placing of rings and after. Hope this helps a bit. Blessings of Peace,
  4. In some circles she would have been considered a "Sl- to the -ut" in others simply a "Loosie", but in all circles she was considered a drop dead gorgeous gal who really enjoyed popping dudes cherries. By my sophmore year it was rumored she deflowered "more than 100" guys at Davis, but I only have first hand knowledge of three, possibly a fourth. At her 10th reunion (my 8th) she showed up with her hubby of 8 or 9 years that was from So.Carolina and an Navy Ltjg. and showed off pictures of their 4 kids. The last I heard 3-4 years ago (from her brother) she was still east coast, still married to the sailor and a grand mother many times over and great grandma twice. "Representative sampling" or not I'm sure in every high school there were guys and gals who had reputations they did not deserve and others who should have been seen for what they really were. Regardless, losing one's virginity is something I don't believe anyone forgets. Blessings Be,
  5. Unwilling? I lost my virginity very young to the "Virgin Killer" of Davis High School in Modesto. At the time she was the gf of a friend of mine and they had a huge fight, breaking up...she asked me to walk her home...and once there...well let's just say I didn't argue or complain. Ever since I've always tried to remain a "gentleman" and allowed the gal to set the mood for when the time was "right". Nearly every time they have been the initiator, not me. While societal norms may say one thing, it's fairly clear to me that societal reality is another. Respecting when a gal says "No!" is honorable for any man. But what dude says "No!" when a gal they are with says "Now!"? So far, I have yet to meet the fella that has. That is yet another double standard in this controversy. Blessings of Peace,

  10. Seeker - I agree with you in principle on the over all article, but disagree that virginity has never been or is currently relative to "the commodification of women". I base my appraisal in part on the author's statement "not being pure when you marry in many societies brings shame and dishonor to your family"....because that is very true. Even my very religious parents created my sister before they were married and that caused a huge bruhaha in the community in 1943...one that caused them to move to California from Connecticut...but..."they LOVED each other and father was going off to war" and they stuck together 63 years...so I guess they did have a bond of honorable "love" when having my sister. I wasn't a virgin when I married the first time nor was my wife, but we live in the US and nobody I know was a virgin either when they married. In my travels around the world I did witness many of the cruelties the author mentioned being taken out on women and girls...many times by their own father or brother and as a matter of familial "honor". IMHO, they were nutz, crazy stupid for allowing some ancient command from an unseen deity dictate their actions in todays society, but hey, that's their baggage to deal with in the next realm. I also agree that this article does more to incite the issue than offer any constructive solution...in fact...almost sounds like it may have been written by a sexually shamed modern woman...pardon my direct reference and does not indicate my feelings towards modern women in general. Frankly, I feel that sex, like our religious or spiritual relationship, is something personal to each individual. What other people think we should or shouldn't do is none of their business. How I feel towards the issue may be completely different than other men and women alike, but should be left up to them how they choose to act or not act upon their own views of virginity. So Koki....what was your intention on discussing this article? Blessings of Peace,
  11. The one hour mark was common in most of the Lutheran/Evangelicals I grew up in, 3-4 hymns throughout service, one while collection of tithes and yep, 25-30 min. sermon. I've been to one 2 hour service in the SF Bay Area at a Methodist Church and could barely hear the sermon above the snoring the last hour or so. I never went back. My Church of Universal Humanism, is a bit different as we combined the Call, Rede, Workings and Obligation (see below) into more of an afternoon and evening of celebration, especially since families come from rather long distances (1-2 hr drives). This includes the food service (bbq/potluck), activities for adults and kids, and on special occasions, blade and shield exhibitions. As well, since there are 3 Vitki's of the two dozen or so members, we alternate locations....being small has it's advantages, and yes, disadvantages. My opinion is the Pastor, Minister, Priest, Vitki or Drighten should provide what each congregation desires. Of course that means risking turning a bit of authority over to those under the leader, but if done correctly should be a positive and earnest end result. Blessings of Peace, Call = greeting and statement regarding the official start of proceedings, and at end closing of event (5-10 minutes) Rede = reading of announcements, selected Edda stanzas, the "message" of stanza(s) analyzed by Vitki/Membership (open discussion), new rune/majik formulas offered by Erulians (45-60 minutes) Workings = rune casting, majik Works and various activities (20-45 minutes) Obligation = instead of tithing this is the bringing of food for the "feast", exchanges of hand made crafts, tools etc. for individuals and/or the Hof at large (the Obligation is done as a "break" between the actual 'service' and the 'feast' a time of socializing and exchanges) (Funding for major events takes place all year long) Closing Call = a short "benediction"

  20. Now that to me is just a bit of a power trip and it's no wonder we have so many priests getting into trouble with physical deeds and actions. Being a "stand-in" for Christ, with the full authority of the Church behind them....has to be a bit of a mind-blower and ego boost. As we know from headlines over the past decade or so, a situation where a juvenile or troubled mind would certainly have difficulty reigning in their emotions and physical actions. And btw, it's not just the church, it's also in the midst of my Belief as well, and, I'm sure others also. I know at least three Vitkis and Drightens who honestly believe they are Odhinn or Mimir rebirthed as well and at moots certainly act like it. They buffalo their way through life just like any other bully that has "authority" behind them.... and that is the spooky part regarding this whole issue to me.... Any time anyone has authority over others, in both the secular and religious world, and that authority is not tempered by honest and mature intentions and actions, others will suffer under the crush of a tyrant. Blessings of Peace,
  21. Well the only point or object d'thinking on why I bring this up is: Why then do the Christian Churches insist that only Holy forgiveness of sin and salvation come THROUGH Jesus Christ? It just seems to me that if a priest can "absolve" you of your sins in an "emergency" they are stepping into the role of the Christ. Ergo.....well you know where I'm going. The mere fact this little "loophole" exists at all tells me something is amiss in the whole "One Way to Salvation" concept. This is just one more reason, of the many, I am convinced that mainstream religion created "God", pinned our need to follow a "Messiah" (in a certain way) on authoritative control freaks and attempts to void the entire process of Self being the highest authority, here, in our physical life. Even though I can only count on a couple of fingers the places where Odhinn, or any other of the Nordic Pantheon mentions a "Creator" (in all codex, saga and lore) it convinces me that Belief and Faith are separate issues. This validates for me the personal and individual manner of finding the "right" or "correct" path to the Omniscient. "Love each other" and "Do that which is Right" keeps coming back to the core of the entire "correct religion" charade....regardless of which path people choose. Is "God" our conscience or is conscience our "God"?? Methinks it is a two way street. Blessings of Peace,
