  1. What does this tell me? That even then -- when Jesus was still walking around -- Speaking the same language as his audience -- people still couldn't agree what his teachings meant. So, what makes you so sure that you have it right? People who actually heard it, straight from Jesus, got it wrong -- but you got it right? Seriously? Objective -- Verifiable -- Evidence.
  2. An addendum: Dan, there is also no reason to think that you -- or your group -- are part of that tiny minority -- that got it right.
  3. This is an argument. Arguments are not objective, verifiable evidence.
  4. You want to bring logic into this. Cool. All of the religions -- and religious factions -- of the world, can't all be right. They can all be wrong. It takes blind faith for a person to believe that his religion got it right -- and all the other religions got it wrong.
  5. That is one way to understand this. I have another. Trump's Evangelical base may be preparing to turn on him. A difficult proposition if Trump really is -- as they have been insisting -- God's anointed. If Trump is no longer God's anointed -- they are now free to swim away from his sinking ship. Like any other rat. The Evangelicals have made themselves into the church of Trump. They don't want to go down with him.

  7. Years back, when Dan was new to the board, he was upfront about his mission of saving souls. At least, that's how I remember it. At the time, I was advocating for Pantheism. I was offended, when Dan told me that I was an unbeliever. Memories........ In hindsight, it helped me get to where I am now. For the rest; Dan just got through explaining that he exists in a different reality. We keep reminding each other that it's Dan. Well, it's Dan. The logic train has left the station.
  8. Yes. What happens then, when 2,000 years later, these descriptions become Scripture -- and they are all that we have to go on? Scripture wars, of course, fulled by blind faith and the insistence that everybody else is wrong.
  9. No subtleties. No distinctions. No shades of grey. No nuances. All in or all out. One seamless ideology for all things. Faith over facts. Belief over all. Yes. I have your number. Have a blessed day.
  10. Look what the Christian Right is doing. https://www.rightwingwatch.org/post/robert-jeffress-climate-change-is-an-imaginary-crisis-that-god-wont-let-happen/
  11. You're right, of course. It's Dan. What was I thinking? He makes no distinctions. I should know better.
  12. First, what do you know about "most liberals"? Not cultural assumptions. What do you actually know? Second, there is a distinction between non-belief and rejection. A distinction which seems to evade you.
  13. There are times when small things, like mosquito bites, have to be scratched. It makes no sense at all -- maybe even makes things worse -- but it itches.
  14. Key, please. The Roman Empire ruled by terror. Let us not confuse this propaganda piece with reality. Even taking the story at face value -- imagine a representative of that power, having angst, over an execution. A standard execution at that. The crime was being "King of the Jews". In plain English -- an insurrectionist. As stated by the sign placed over Jesus' head. Dan, if you must quote scripture -- at least get it right. Matthew 27:11 And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
