  1. I raised a physics question about the nature of time. Any takers?
  2. Since God knows everything, it follows that God knows the future. That includes everything that God will ever think, do or change. That includes every change of mind that God will ever have, so it's not really a change of mind. From this, it follows that God lacks free will.
  3. Don't know where you got that impression? Equating eternal life to a death cult is a real stretch. Killing babies, so that they can live forever, is a death cult. Its clear that my conversation often goes over your heads,
  4. Never mind. I started the thread. Free Will. Do we have it? By Jonathan H. B. Lobl, Just now in Philosophy & Theory
  5. Free Will. Do we have it? Or do we have the illusion of free will? Enjoy.
  6. Just as soon as Key starts the thread. Or someone else. I don't know why. I feel reluctant to start this one. Hold off on answering. Did you see my physics question on time?
  7. I'd prefer to start a new thread. That works for me. If you start a new thread, I will be happy to chat there. Besides, I'm likely to leave a lengthy response Small bites, please. It can get lengthy, but not all at once. If the opening statement is huge, it's hard to respond. 😎
  8. That may be the worst thing you ever said on this board. A true death cult.
  9. God created the entire Universe and everything in it -- but can't produce Scripture without human help? Of course, every word of Scripture was produced by a human hand. That's a lot of pious fraud.
  10. In fairness to Dan, being guilty of something, can be hard to define. Consider America's war crimes in Vietnam. I was never there. I never shot anybody. But my taxes supported the army that did. Am I personally culpable? Maybe.
  11. I was raising a physics question about the nature of time. Do you have anything to add?
  12. This thread has already wandered. It can wander some more. Alright: Do we have free will? Do we have the illusion of free will? I would like to start things with a physics question. What is the nature of time? I'm fairly certain that the past is fixed and unchanging. Could the future also be fixed and unchanging? If the future is as unchanging as the past -- then free will is illusory. Like the pages in a book. We can turn the pages back to an earlier chapter. We can turn the pages ahead to a later chapter. We can't change the story. I don't know that this is the case. I don't know. That should get us started.
  13. "When we speak to God, it's called prayer. When God speaks to us, it's called schizophrenia."
  14. Religions die and their gods fall out of fashion. Atheism is constantly reborn.
  15. Does it actually matter whether or not God exists? God neither helps nor hinders. Rewards or punishes. That leaves me with a big steaming helping of -- So what? Sure God could exist. I need a reason to care. I am clear, that getting caught up in the obsessions of others, is not a good idea. This is generally the point, where a true believer gives me the usual threats. I'm so bored with arguing. Beyond love and hate -- there is not giving a crap.
  16. I don't hate God, or Dracula, or Captain Ahab, or any other fictional character.
  17. It's God's game, playing both sides. God gives Mosses orders -- and "harden's" Pharaoh's heart at the same time. There are other supporting quotes, if you need them. The short version is that God is a monster. He's pulling the puppet's strings on both sides. He is controlling both sides. On top of that, the depraved All Knowing One, obviously knows the outcome in advance. This is why it's good to read the Bible for yourself. After that, nobody can lie to you about the contents. It is what it is, and much of it is disgusting. Just read it cover to cover like any other book. If you're not an Atheist now, you will be.
  18. Exodus 4:21 The Lord said to Moses, “When you return to Egypt, see that you perform before Pharaoh all the wonders I have given you the power to do. But I will harden his heart so that he will not let the people go. 19. When reiki people teach healing-at-a-distance; they teach it in a set manner. How to send the energy outside of space/time to re-enter and do the healing. Generally, they do this with the third symbol. That is not my understanding of how things work. If you seriously commune with the reiki itself -- I find that it gives a different lesson. That the distance is an illusion. Imagine a wave in the ocean. It wants to heal a distant wave. To send that wave energy. Then that wave awakens. There is no distance between the two waves. Between the waves -- there is the ocean. They are both part of the ocean. The distance is illusory. A lot of people like complexity in spiritual matters. I like simple. Enjoy the journey.
