  1. Masochism is running rampid, but I'd at least expect an apology prior to forgiving her... Unless she was a real looker, then I'd probably let it go
  2. What if a woman bit you for no reason? Not because it was her nature, but just because she was mad. She's not sorry about it either, in fact, given the opportunity, she'd bite you again. Would you forgive her? I'm guessing most of our members are into that type of thing, so no forgiveness would be necessary.. My God requires repentance, there's no forgiveness without it.
  3. My interpretation of where it says "some will prophesy", is simply proclaiming God's will and teaching via inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Everyone who prophesies is not a prophet. "But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort" (1 Corinthians 14:3) So a man or woman can speak with a spiritual gift of prophesying to edify, exhort, and comfort. But the specific office of a prophet is a direct appointment by God, where a prophet received direct revelation from God, which included future events. Imo, the context of "some will prophesy" in the new testament isn't a reference to the OT type of prophet. Prophesying today is teaching and explaining what was already prophesied. Jesus said; "I have foretold you all things" (Mark 13:23). So we no longer need prophets in the old testament sense. It was the same with apostles, they were men selected for a specific purpose and appointed for a certain time, And as I've said before, show me a person with apostolic authority today, or show me a true prophet appointed by God? I maintain that they no longer exist because they are no longer needed. We do have prophets today, they are Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, etc. As do we have the recorded words of the apostles, but no apostolic succession. I doubt we'll have a meeting of the minds, but its not problematic if someone chooses to believe that prophets and apostles still exist today, as long as they're not decieved by those who claim such a title.
  4. No, I don't think these gifts were limited to the original 12 apostles, but to all who were given apostolic authority in the first century, probably 70 or more, and to some whom the apostles commissioned. I'm speaking about miraculous gifts such as healing, it is those gifts that Jesus promises that his disciples would do even greater works than he did. And they did. (John 14:12-14). I do still believe there are gifts of the spirit, just not in the form of miracles."How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?" (Hebrews 2:3-4). Healing's, tongues, and prophets are miracles, while teachers, evangelist, and interpreters are natural gifts. There are no more apostles and no more prophets, the gift of miracles ceased with them. If I'm wrong, show me a prophet, an apostle, or a real miracle healer, and I'll reconsider my interpretation and conclusion. But I'm convinced that apostolic succession ended, and the miracles ended with them. "Truly the signs of an apostle were wrought among you in all patience, in signs, and wonders, and mighty deeds" (2 Corinthians 12:12). What the apostles had, which we don't have today, is authority. They could command a healing or a miracle, while we can only ask. jmo
  5. Believe it or not, I completely agree with Pete .. The apostle Paul said that tongues would cease, So if anyone speaks in unknown languages today, they need an interpreter or no one will understand a word. These first century gifts were meant for a sign authenticating the apostles as divinely commissioned by Jesus. Then they stopped. "Charity never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away" (1 Corinthians 13:8). "If therefore the whole church be come together into one place, and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned, or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?" (1 Corinthians 14:23) "If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret" ( 1 Corinthians 14:27) Speaking in tongues (unknown languages) today is just charismatic chaos, its the misapplication of a long past miraculous gift that only creates confusion, doubt, mockery, and just plain silliness. jmo
  6. I reckon getting what you deserve is fair.... Unfortunately, life ain't always fair.
  7. I'd serve your renter with an eviction notice immediately. I've dealt with deadbeats in the past many times and its always a pain in the butt, They can cause trouble even after they're forcibly removed, so always change the locks after you evict them. Now I do background checks on everyone prior to renting to them. I also collect the first and last months rent in advance, along with a damage deposit. I rent out properties on a month to month basis now because I learned the hard way that a multi-year lease protects the tenant more than it does me..
  8. Welfare is a good deed... Also consider that welfare didn't start until the 1930's, so good deeds were all we had for the previous 5916 years. At the start of 1930, our national debt was only $22 billion, and after just 84 years of welfare, our debt is $17 trillion and climbing.
  9. That's true... Any baptized Christian can baptize another Christian. Its important to make sure that the person being baptized understands the significance and meaning of being born from above. Also baptize them in the name of the Father, Son, & Holy Spirit.
  10. One problem with everyone relying on the government for help is that we assume everyone is taken care of, and good deeds are no longer necessary. Society grows cold and we forget how to help each other. You've got a good attitude lordie, a good Christian would also have compassion and help the people you mentioned, but there aren't many good Christians around these days who help the infirmed. "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction" (James 1:27). I think we get so caught-up with all the "Thou shall not" rules in the bible, that we forget about the "do's". Jesus said; "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.... ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:35-45).
  11. Being divorced, I'm having a tough time coming up with anything, but I've assembled one hell of a list of the worst things about being married. But congratulation to all who made it work, your all pretty lucky,
  12. Just curious as to what people consider to be their biggest weakness? Mine happens to be patience, This revelation came to me when I got behind a car occupied by 8 people at a McDonald's drive through last Saturday. It took them forever to place their order and then each person paid separately at the window. I sat behind them for 22 minutes and nearly lost my mind. This brought on another weakness; My hot temper! When I was young I had a lot of patience, but struggle with it now. I also have a bad habit of putting my hope in the wrong things and people. I guess that makes me an impatient optimist? In any event, I plan to avoid McDonald's for awhile.
  13. I've never tried it myself, but my sister swears by lavender oil. She had insomnia, but sleeps like a baby now. A couple drops of lavender oil to the back of your neck has a very calming effect... It even calms down hyperactive dogs Smells good too.
  14. Lots of large companies pay no income tax; General Electric, Boeing, Verizon, Corning, and PG&E among them. Neither do half of all Americans pay any income tax. I personally just finish my 31 page tax returns 2 weeks ago, the effort paid off as I legally paid no tax. If churches were not tax exempt, most would still pay nothing via tax write-offs and re-investing profits. Only in America Its why every candidate who ever proposed a flat tax has been soundly defeated.
  15. Your comment is way out of context. Robertson doesn't support, nor did he even imply that anyone should be killed. Your exaggerating what happened by reverting back to Mosaic law. Robertson expressed an opinion that was based in Christian scripture, he didn't advocate anything further. The only intolerance was demonstrated by those who disagreed with his Christian opinion, by wanting to punish him for what he thinks. That's ignorance and its anti-Christian. It would be no different if your job was threatened because of your pro-gay opinion. Your justifying hurting a person because you think they're ignorant, and you claim that's a good thing? That's sad...
  16. I'd disagree... When you threaten someone for essentially paraphrasing what the bible says, that's about as anti-Christian as it gets. They only relented because they love money more than they hate Christ. Statement from A&E; "His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."
  17. No I was never bullied, a few tried, but I never allowed it. You seem to be saying that a person with money (privileged) can't be bullied. Bullying does not discriminate. A poor big kid beating-up a small rich kid is bullying. To imply that a person of wealth can't be a victim is ridiculous. Robertson was put on indefinite hiatus by A&E for paraphrasing 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. So yes, imo its about bullying, its about an anti-Christian network hating a Christian for reciting a bible passage, and that same network trying to stop a man from saying what he believes. You are correct, A&E had every right to fire Robertson or cancel Duck Dynasty, but they backed-down.
  18. Robertson was fired for answering a question, yes it is bullying, by the minority. No different than if I was thrown-off the ULC forum for writing what I just wrote.
  19. After a controversial week where Phil Robertson refused to apologize for his comments, and Willie Robertson said the show would not continue without Phil, A&E folded and said they would continue filming the show with Phil. Its nice to see the anti-Christian network drop to their knee's and relent. Score it Jesus 1 A&E zip. Money is obviously a lot more important to A&E than their principles. It took them a while to realize that not too many gays watch Duck Dynasty.
  20. Of course, everyone is free to believe what they want, and they are free to label themselves as they please. But I can't in good conscience call a duck an eagle. In your example, if Joe rejected the resurrection, sacrifice, and salvation of Christ, then I don't think its wrong for me to think of him as a non-Christian. No need for me to confront him on the issue, but no need to accept what he says either. There was a reason that Jesus often called the Pharisees hypocrites, they professed one thing but walked a different path.
  21. Actually, it is in the bible. Robertson paraphrased these 2 verses; "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).
  22. Tell that to Phil Robertson guys The Duck Dynasty star and former minister paraphrased a bible verse saying that homosexuals would not inherit the kingdom of God, and A&E booted him off his own show. There's a downside to walking our talk and saying what we mean. Being P.C. has over-run the first amendment, say what you believe and lose your job.. "Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God" (1 Corinthian 6:9-10) - NIV
  23. One piece of data not disclosed is; Why doesn't the patient/parent want to be reconciled with their adult child? I'm guessing there's a good reason. Who knows this adult child better than the parent? Trying to force a reconciliation may cause more harm than good. Not everything in life can be rectified by good intentions.
  24. I agree with 'grateful', honor the request of the parent. Screw the kid and the friends, the dying parent has enough on their plate without contending with a kid who's asking questions about the parent's health for the first time in years. Often, a wayward adult child will come around just before the Will is read.
  25. It just occurred to me, sometimes trying to be sarcastic can get you audited...
