  1. Amen! to Atwater and Amen! to Hex.....
  2. Foxes do what foxes do. It is not vandalistic to seek food or shelter...even if it happens to be my chicken coop. Urban sprawl leaves them little options but to adapt to the environment imposed upon them. In the eyes of the fox (and many other displaced creatures) we are the antagonists and vandals. I see what they see.
  3. A fig is a fig, good or bad. The guy will probably be in for a big surprise when he gets out of jail and finds his girlfriend/daughter somewhere on a beach in Cancun with his money hidden away in a secret Swiss bank account. Then he will receive the fruits of his labor. Just thinking; if he legally adopts her as his daughter and later wants to marry her.....see the conundrum? Any ULC ministers want to marry a father to his daughter? Yeah, this plan of his just might backfire....one can hope....
  4. I thouht she had a sex change and became Pee-wee Herman...
  5. There are good figs and bad figs....but they are all figs. The parable of the fig tree in the story told by Jeremiah, chapter 24.
  6. I am so sorry . But her beautiful spirit will make itself known and present to you as you settle into your new home.
  7. Orrrr.....you could tell her that "Religion is for people who are afraid of going to hell. Spirituality is for people who have already been to hell and do not want to go back."...
  8. Thanks RR. It is always good to remember that every one of us is a work in progress. And that doesn't end until we die...Uhhh....maybe...
  9. Chief Tecumseh once said, "Trouble no one about their religion; respect them in their view, and demand that they respect yours." I think that is a good wisdom to share with one another. When religions are used as weapons to diminish any living thing, then I believe that religion has fallen short of its intended purpose. The same thing applies to science and atheism, IMO.
  10. How about some Phil Ochs?...."Love me I'm a liberal" or "The war is over"?
  11. The only time our dogs dress up is when the Bears and Packers play. My German Shepherd wears a Bears bandana and my partners Blue Heeler/Aussie wears her Packers bandana.....Yeahhhh....They don't seem too happy about it either.
  12. Anyone can start an AA or other 12-step related support group. The third tradition of AA is "The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking." Here are the other 11 traditions: 1. Our common welfare should come first; personal recovery depends upon AA unity. 2. For our group purpose there is but one ultimate authority--a loving Goid as He may express himself in our group conscience. Our leaders are but trusted servants; they do not govern. 3. The only requirement for AA membership is a desire to stop drinking. 4. Each group should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or AA as a whole. 5. Each group has but one primary purpose--to carry its message to the alcoholic who still suffers. 6. An AA group ought never endorse, finance, or lend the AA name to any related facility or outside enterprise, lest problems of money, property and prestige divert us from our primary purpose. 7. Ever AA group ought to be fully self supporting, declining outside contributions. 8. Alcoholics Anonymous should remain forever non-professional, but our service centers may employ special workers. 9. AA, as such, ought never be organized; but we may crerate service boards or committees directly responsible to those they serve. 10. Alcoholics Anonymous has no opinion on outside issues; hence the AA name ought never be drawn into public controversy. 11. Or public relation policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonym, ity at the level of press, radio and films. 12. Anonymity is the spiritual foundation of all our Traditons, ever reminding us to place principles before personalities. ---"The Twelve Traditions" From the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous page 562, 4th edition As far as Domestic violence, in most states one is required to complete a certain number of hours of training for certification. In Illinois and NM it is 40 full hours which must be completed, tested, and passed. I know this because I am a CDVC. Hope this helps.
  13. Oh my! I am so sad to hear of this! We had three cats and lost our last one "Louie" a bit over a year ago at the age of 22. We swore, "NO MORE CATS!!".....until Mai Tai was saved from the jaws of a pit bull when he was about 4 weeks old....Now, a year later he is a firm member of our family. I will carry your little four-legged into the Medicine Wheel and pray she has a gentle transition into the spirit world.
  14. Judge Judy always says, "If something sounds too good to be true, it probably isn't." I apply the philosophy to "Trust no one, suspect everyone." That puts me in the position of the fulcrum rather than the lever. The amount of weight one can lift with a lever depends upon where one places the lever on the fulcrum. I weigh out and sift what I know to be untruths on both sides. That leaves only a small amount of information to investigate. As I investigate each claim I either put it in the "save" pile or "file 13". The process of elimination this way can bring one to a quicker conclusion. If later data appears to disprove what I have saved, I go through the processing again. But there is rarely a time when I believe everything or nothing. Life is usually not that black and white....but sometimes you find one that does not require much thought and which resonates within yourself to be completely true or false. Human equality is one of those...at least for me.
  15. All our animals are "throw aways". (with the exception of my pigeons) They never forget an act of kindness and make the best family members!
  16. I guess the above is what happens when a cat tangles with a rat from NYC?
  17. Did he have X's in his eyes after you shot him?..
  18. uncanny resemblance to you BpCorey!...
  19. Actually on another thread he requested the admins keep him active. Post #181 on "Returning and lurking members.
  20. She is spoiled on the good stuff. What child or person gets very hungry without much exercise? But...what child or person, exercised, hungry or not, is going to refuse the goodies? I am assuming the enclosure is about 20 X 20 = 400 sq.ft.? If she is used to 30 acres, or even 10, she probably has some pent up energy which can also lead to anxiety. Anxious creatures also frequently eat hastily..It doesn't sound like she is physically ill, but emotionally upset and trying to adjust to her new quarters. I trained horses over 35 years until one fell off a cliff, landed on top of me, and broke my back. I still love them, but pelvic injuries prevent me from riding anymore.
