I was leaving a convenience store today, I was in front of a couple of people. As is my standard practice I held the door for those behind me. A man walked through who was clearly a drug addict. I suspect he’s done prison time given the tattoos on his face. In that split Second I passed judgment I knew all about this guy.
He quietly walked through, stopped, turned around and looked at me said as earnestly as he could and said , “thank you sir.” The look on his face clearly told me he was not use to even the tiniest gesture of kindness.
I don’t share this as a look what I did type of comment, For it is I who learned a lesson.
No matter how difficult a person’s life is they are still capable of appreciating kindness.
