  1. I've been reading Sorcery Rising for about a week, now--maybe more. It took a long time for me to get interested in it. Especially after Cartomancy.
  2. I liked it. It somehow fits well for contempary politics even though it's based on past politics.
  3. These are all done in chalk on the sidewalks of Europe. Julian Beever is an English artist who's famous for his art on the sidewalks and pavements of England, France, Germany, USA, Australia and Belgium . Beever gives to his drawings an amazing 3D illusion. When you get to the two of the G8 Summit, the second elongated one is the globe from the side, just to give you some perspective of how he does it.
  4. You really have to understand the Spider-Man mythos to understand the importance of the black suit.
  5. The 'man in Black. I have goose-bumps.
  6. Stonehenge: Rise of the Druids Interesting and looking forward to it? Or doomed to failure with H-Wood not getting it right again?
  7. And to think, some of those movies made the list when others didn't: Breakin 2: Electric Boogaloo Grease 2 Pumpkinhead II American Ninja 5 Mortal Kombat: Annihilation Any of the Schumaker Batmans Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle Chud 2 Darkman 2 Gremlins 2: The New Batch Highlander 2: The Quickening Iron Eagle 4 Police Academy's 3+ Puppet Master 2+ Resident Evil: Apocalypse Species 3 Starship Troopers 2: Heros of the Federation Superman IV: The Quest for Peace I'm finding out there are just too many bad sequels ...
  8. I loved Firefly and can't believe it was cancelled. When the movie came out I thought: vindication! Unfortunately it didn't do that well in the theaters even though it was a great movie! Dark Angel... Or more precisley, Jessica Alba Yummy!
  9. Do you recall Aslan's speech right after he was reanimated? This was a very Christian-influenced speech, and quite moving. I didn't think that was christian. I just thought it was sappy and stupid. I would rather have listened to what he told the one brother to make him like his other brother.
  10. Prophecy. Did anyone hear anything about Prophecy?
  11. Yeah, I read something about the christian overtones in that movie, but when I saw it I didn't see it. I guess you really have to be looking for it. Regardless, I didn't like that movie at all. It was dumb. I can only hope the books are better.
  12. I've been thinking about posting this for some time, now, but not until I read PMO's post in my OPUD DEI topic did I actually decide to. When Revenge of the Sith came out, Catholics in Mexico protested because Anakin being the saviour of the Jedi's and fullfulling a prophecy was too close to Jesus. Catholics have been protesting the DaVinci Code book for years now and are (apparently) prepped to protest and possibly boycott the movie based on the book. The new Superman Returns movie has Jor-El telling Clark Kent (Superman) that the Earth people are a good people and that is why he sent them his only son. With the surge of conservative christianity in recent years, can we expect a folkloric icon of American mythos like Superman to be protested by catholics, too? Or should religious groups just look at it as etertainment and not worry about it? I mean, no one protested Dune even though it's about a prophet/saviour from the desert. What other movies have religious overtones that no one protested?
  13. I just finished Etruscans, which was awful. And can't decide between The Skrayling Tree or State of War.
  14. So, is it good? I just started A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin. When I finish it I'll look for this one.
  15. I read Leadership for the Twenty-First Century over the last couple of weeks and picked up Talon of the Silver Hawk the other day. I'm nearly finished with it, though and I'll be reading A Feast for Crows.
  16. Finished Knife of Dreams last night and picked up Religion and Peacebuilding
  17. I've read most but not all of the Gor books. I like them. Has anyone mentioned Burroughs? As in Tarzan? Or the tales of Fafnir and the Grey Mouser? Classics, I tell you. Classics!
  18. I've been reading Knife of Dreams by Robert Jordan Leadership Leadership for the Twenty-First Century Ethnic Conflict in World Politics Fate of the Nation-State and parts of Grossman's Guide to Wines, Beers and Spirits
  19. It's okay, Murph said I could.
  20. I loved the show when it was on TV and I love it now that it's on SciFi Channel. Of oourse I'm going to see the movie!
  21. A Secret Atlas I just started this last weekend. I'm almost done. Normally it doesn't take this long to read one of Stackpole's books, but it was a bit difficult to get into. I've read a handful of his books and they're all good reads. He wrote a bunch of Battletech books which I've never touched, but I've read all his Star Wars books. Michael Stackpole's website
  22. Good. Opie is a good director and his taking on the task means it will be a good translation from book to film. Tom Hanks is good, too, but I picture Langdon as being mid-30s, not closer to 50.
