  1. I wanted to check in with you all. Things haven't been going especially well, to be quite honest. While of course i don't want to get into too many specifics, suffice it to say that it's been an extremely rough time for the kids and me. I'm still pretty absent from the forum these days. I check in occasionally, in case there is something that needs immediate attention. But really, my mind is elsewhere, and I can't devote the time here that I usually do. Hopefully as things calm down and life begins to resemble some sort of normalcy, I'll return full on, but for now, it's just not the best time.
  2. I can't believe no one posted this: Nigel Powers: All right Goldmember. Don't play the laughing boy. There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.
  3. Thank you to everyone for your support. It means more to me than you'll ever know.
  4. it's only fair that I tell you about my failures, as well as my successes. Last weekend, my wife and I have decided to divorce. While it wasn't exactly a happy decision on my part, I respect her decision. I've spent a lot of time down in the dumps, since then. I've really not been here much, as I'm trying to deal with family/finance issues. Long story short, I picked up smoking again, for some sort of release. I know it's not the best for me right now, my mind, it helps. I haven't really done that badly. I've had about a pack in a week's time. What I've been telling others (and myself) is that I'll abuse myself for a couple of weeks until things get sorta straightened out, and then I'll go back on the wagon. It's been pretty hard on me, to be quite honest. Not nearly as hard as it has been on the kids, so I'm focusing on them. I've already told the mod staff that I'm going to be stepping back from the forum for a while until I get my stuff together. Smoking is not something I want to be doing, long term, but right's helping.
  5. I know exactly what you mean. That's a side effect. Thankfully, it's can be a temporary one. I alluded earlier, and in another thread, that "fixing Murph, part 2" was coming. I visited my doctor (I think I mentioned) and got all of the results back. I have high cholesterol, and I'm fat. they did an EKG and determined that my heart is in good shape. I was given clearance to "work out to my heart's content." (That's why I went to the doctor, to make sure I'd be okay for working out.) One of the benefits of my "quit for life" program was that, after 6 months, they sent me a $25 gift certificate (for participating in a University study.) with that gift card, I chose to visit and pick up "My Fitness Coach" for the Wii. The game arrived on Saturday, and I completed my "evaluation" on Sunday. It Kicked. My. Ass. I've only had 1 real work out so far. I was kind of dumb and did the evaluation, then turned around and did the first 15 min work out. It has built in "rest" periods during the work out, and at certain points it'll as if the previous exercise was too hard, just right, or too easy. It then will adjust future workouts accordingly. Obviously, this will not take the place of a gym, but for someone who has been out of shape for the past 10 years, it's a good start. (and it also beats payin $40 a month for a gym you might only get to once a week.) My goal is to get to a point where I can work out more easily, then I can start biking and jogging (well, shuffling along...I learned a long time ago that jogging and I don't mix.) The doc also told me to pay more attention to carbs, watch my portions, that kind of thing. Which I'm doing. Since the doctor, I've lost about 3 pounds. I haven't gotten into the workout thing full swing yet. As I say, I'm just starting. But being more careful about what I eat is already showing some difference.

  9. It's similar to the Google or Yahoo spiders on the site. The difference being, with the facebook integration, those that connect their facebook id's with the forum can share links to forum threads on their facebook wall. From the admin panel description They have the same authority/ability as "guests." Any live person that drops by to see the site, but doesn't register, can only see so much. The same is true with the Facebook bots.

  18. At work tonight, I was tasked with providing my top 5 artists/bands that you'd want to be on a deserted island with. Basically, music you'd listen to for the rest of your life. We were NOT allowed to choose our artists based on eye candy. Strictly musical merit. Any artist or band, living or not. My list, after careful deliberation, turned out thusly: Queen Meat Loaf Weird Al Genesis Def Leppard What's yours? Yeah, it was a slow night at work.
  19. that's like the old saying: "I'm gonna live far, so good!"
  20. I find this post to be in violation of my recent proclamation that " is not your political soap box."
  21. So I was speaking with Kevin today about the trouble we're having with the website. (this time it's a server issue, which is apparently ongoing...anyhow) He stated that he'd spoken with Andre earlier, and Andre reported that someone had come to the church last night and busted out 6 windows. Seems the guy was upset with his girlfriend, and thought that bustin windows at a church was the answer. Andre says that he woulda done more damage, if the police hadn't intervened. Andre went on to say that earlier in the week, someone had destroyed their HVAC system, to get at the copper, and caused $5000 worth of damage, in addition to takin out their phone system. If you have a moment, please spare a thought or two for those at Headquarters...they've had a pretty rough week. thanks.
