  1. I did try it. If it helped at all, it was too subtle to notice.
  2. I have never owned a dog. Or lived with a dog. I have spent much of my life in the company of cats. Nobody owns a cat. We can only live with them.
  3. You don't have to sell me on natural remedies. My Rheumetologist (Arthritis specialist) has me taking Vitamin D3, Cinnamon, Ginger and fish oil. When things are proven to work, they become part of real medicine.
  4. Not really. I agree with you that first contact could be with A.I. Beyond that? Anthropology students, are always looking for isolated cultures to study. Zoology students might also be interested. Jane Goodall spent years studying Gorillas and Chimpanzees. Entomologists spend years studying ants. Also, bees and other social insects. On Earth, people make serious studies of whale song. In like manner, ET might be interested in our art or music. A linguist might find our languages interesting. Our blood chemistry could be of interest. A social scientist might care about our thoughts. They wouldn't need our thoughts. You know. Science. Then again, technological sophistication does not mean cultural sophistication. The Western world likes to search out "authentic" spirituality. Think of the Westerners in India, in search for a guru. Or in South America, looking for a real shaman.
  5. I got the joke. I'm just disappointed. I have tried opening this topic in the past, in the Monotheism section. People insisted on talking about demons. Now, it's ice cream. It's frustrating.
  6. Maybe. The dynamic harmony of opposites? It's a little rough for an opening conversation.
  7. "Not intended to treat, prevent or diagnose......." Yes. I know about disclaimers. They tend to be transparent crap. We can almost hear the scammers snicker.
  8. I was trying for an intelligent conversation about ideas. I'm sorry if I'm coming across as a humorless old grump. Please. No more ice cream humor.
  9. Surprise. There are plenty of bogus things on the market. It should not be so, but it is. I don't understand why the government permits this. The FDA is a miserable watch dog.
  10. Clinical backing? Homeopathic? That seems unlikely. A product can be legal without being valid.
  11. It's an old joke. What do we call alternative medicine that works? Medicine. The joke isn't funny. Only true.
  12. Bottom line. Look at their God -- as recorded in their Scriptures.
  13. Humanist is a problematic word. In ET's own language -- I expect ET would self regard as "Human". Still, a term like "Atheist" might be less complicated. If ET is an Atheist. In my own home, I have seen Mormons and Jehovah's Witnesses and Moonies come calling. Also, various Evangelical fruit loops. Some missionaries will knock on every door in an area. Just because ET has technological sophistication, does not mean that ET is sane. In Earth history, missionaries frequently make "first contact." Consider the Jesuit invasion of Japan. Or the Spanish invasion of various native cultures. Buddhist monks also spread Dharma. In addition, there was that time, when it was fashionable for Westerners, to go to India, to find a Guru. The Beatles did that, and come back with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. It's impossible to guess what might show up as ET. The question remains. What does Earth have, besides Buddhism -- that ET might find interesting?
  14. I was thinking that Buddhist Dharma, is as close to species neutral philosophy, as Earth has to offer. The basic Buddhist truths about old age, suffering and death -- are as basic as it gets. Then again, if ET is some kind of missionary -- pure speculation -- that could also be interesting.
  15. I'm still waiting for evidence that there was a Jesus. It's a pity that God couldn't manage something. I found more lectures for you from the same series. If you want the Orthodox Jewish perspective, we might as well go all out. It is a different reality.
