  1. That was really interesting. I love the History Channel.
  2. Lewis was completely open about the fact that the books represented his view of Christianity. But they're good stories whatever you believe. Aslan said he created the world of Narnia to help the kids love him in their own world. I think the idea was that a fairytale world was good for them while they were young but when they got older they were supposed to put that aside and embrace Christianity. And Susan goes to hell in the end. Don't forget that.
  3. The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. I'll be on this one for a while. Also Aghora, At the Left Hand of God by Robert Svoboda.
  4. Anybody going to see this movie? Or even know anthing about it lol? Well it's the continuation of a really great tv show called Firefly that was cancelled after 11 episodes aired. It was hard to get into but really great once you do. It's a westernish sci-fi show about a crew of misfits trying to scrape out a living in space and running from an opressive government.
  5. Dan Brown hinted not so subtly in the book that he wanted Harrison Ford to play Langdon but Tom Hanks should be great too.
  6. Definitely looks like it'll do the book justice. I doubt it'll be as popular as LOTR or Harry Potter but I hope it does good enough to get a couple more of the books made.
  7. Reunion-NJO I just finished The Years of Rice and Salt by him. Same thing, slow but I just had to finish it. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> How is that? It sounds interesting.
  8. If you'd like, I can fix the topic title! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I'd appreciate it. I feel dumb seeing that
  9. http://www.annanalick.com/ She's the first new singer I've been impressed with in a long time. This is my favorite song of hers. Citadel I'm sitting on a citadel Contemplating life Making a point to waste my time I'm sitting on clouds of white What if I fall? What if I don't? What if I never make it home? What if I bleed? What if I break? And I find that I can't take The city below the citadel Holding my own hand And I'm breaking on the balcony Breaking window panes Killing the pain of broken hearts I'm walking on clouds Walking on stars What if I fall? What if I don't? What if I never make it home? What if I bleed? What if I break? And I find that I can't take The city below the citadel Holding my own hand I'm holding onto something It's keeping me from jumping I'm so afraid to go it alone And holding up this fortress with imaginary forces Longing for a life downelow What if I fall? What if I don't? What if I never make it home? What if I bleed? What if I break? And I find that I can't take The city below the citadel Holding my own hand
  10. Yeah my fault I sometimes mix up the name with a book called The Letter, the Witch, and the Ring by John Bellairs.
  11. Green Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson These books are slooooow but for some reason I want to finish the series
  12. I just saw a preview for this today. I didn't even know they were making it. It looks great! I really liked the Chronicles of Narnia books so I hope it does well so they make some of the others.
  13. Haunted by Chuck Palahniuk. Really funny and weird. I'm taking a break from the New Jedi Order series but starting Force Heretic soon. I hope the secrets of the Yuuzhan Vong are really interesting. At the end of Destiny's Way they destroyed a large part of the Yuuzhan Vong fleet thanks to Ackbar's plan and Cal Omas said they wouldn't deploy Alpha Red. He's also trying to create a new galactic government with more checks and balances. Luke formed a new Jedi counsel. I think that's everything.
  14. If Anybody hasn't read the Dune series they should. The real ones by Frank Herbert, not the crap by his son. And the Dead Girls trilogy by Richard Calder.
  15. The first part, Yoda said it was Qui-Gon. Most of the rest: How Stuff Works <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cool link! Thanks!
  16. I resent that! I live in my parent's basement! Reality is for people who can't cope with science fiction That was Aayla. Wonder if the planet was Ryloth? Somebody on another board was saying that some important scenes were cut. Remember how Yoda said out of the blue that he had communicated with Qui-Gon and told Obi-Wan to learn how? Apparently on the DVD they'll have scenes where Qui-Gon tells Yoda that Anakin is balancing the force and that the Jedi have to be destroyed so they can come back stronger. From the beginning I thought it was odd that they were so enthusiastic about this "balance the force" prophecy because the Light Side Jedi were powerful and there were no known Dark Jedi. Also I thought it was strange that Jedi aren't allowed to marry but we know strength in the Force runs in families. So apparently they just waited for random mutations to bring them more Jedi candidates?
  17. I was wrong. The hippolike thing was called a Grazer. If anybody's geeky enough to care. Okay let me tell you what happened at the midnight show. I was kind of disappointed by the number of people in costume. I was hoping for a lot more. But there were several lightsaber duels and one guy in a really good Anakin costume with a kick ass lightsaber. It was solid glass and had sound effects. I need one of those! Then a guy in a starfleet uniform came by heckling and got booed. We waited outside forever and then the movie started about ten minutes late and there were a ton of previews When we finally got in they had those trivia things on the screen. Who said this quote: "Cute and cuddly, boys. Cute and cuddly." Somebody yelled "Michael Jackson!" Then the movie started and people cheered. It was only during the opening text but several people yelled "Shut up!" and then it got perfectly quiet for the rest of the movie. I was surprised. I expected it to be kind of rowdy. It was also hot as hell in there. Anyway the movie was great. Easily the best of the prequels.
  18. Invisible Monsters is my favorite! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Really??? Didn't you think it was obvious that Brandy was the narrator's brother? I literally saw it 100 pages away. I didn't get the motivation for anything the narrator did. I also thought that telling the story out of chronological order was to divert us from noticing there was no plot--just anti-consumerism one-liners. To each his own I suppose. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah but I didn't get that Shannon(the narrator) shot herself. Her motivation and his/hers was to rebel as completely as possible. That was what I liked about it. "Birds ate my face."
  19. Yep 3PO's memory was wiped. As for what a nerf is I've seen two very different pictures. One was a goat with four horns, one was a huge blob that looked like an overgrown hippo.
  20. Definately. Totalitarian governments always stifle advacement. Except in weapons of mass destruction.
  21. I don't think so. 3P0 specificly stated in response to his owner's query (Luke) that he had never heard of Obi-Wan Kenobi. R2 was lying because he was under orders and needed that restraining bolt thingamajig removed to reach Obi-Wan, but 3P0 recieved no such orders. I don't think 3P0 is capable of lying under those circumstances. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> True but he never admits to things unless he's sure of them. He claimed not to know if he'd been in a battle when laser bolts were flying all around him and he claimed he wasn't much of a storyteller until he started telling stories to the Ewoks complete with sound effects. There must be more than one Obi Wan Kenobi in the galaxy.
  22. I'll be there on midnight Thursday I look forward to seeing all the awesome people there. I'd love to dress up, simple Jedi Robe and a lightsaber, but I'm a wimp. I'll just wear my Revenge of the Sith t-shirt and sit quietly. SPOILERS I read the book and they do show Luke and Leia being split up there. As for 3PO and R2 not remembering, there was no explanation in the book. I honestly think they DO remember. Remeber in A New Hope R2 seemed to know exactly what he was doing. He was going to see Obi Wan. 3PO was flakier as always but nobody ever asked them about the events of the clone war. They don't recognize Luke because they haven't seen him since he was a baby and to their knowledge Leia is Bail Organa's daughter.
