Morgraine
Here are some of my favourite Words of Wisdom that i would like to share with you A 17th Century Nuns PrayerKeep me from the fatal habit of thinking that I must saySomething on every subject on every occasionRelease me from craving to straighten out everybody’s affairsWith my vast store of wisdomIt seems a pity not to use it all, but you know Lord that I want a few friends at the endKeep my mind free from the recital of endless detailsGive me wings to get to the pointSeal my lips on my aches and painsThey are increasing, and love of rehearsing themIs becoming sweeter as the years go byI dare not ask for grace enough to enjoy the tales of Others pains, but help me endure them with patienceI dare not ask for improved memory, but for a growing Humility when my memory seems to clashwith the memories of othersTeach me the glorious lesson that occasionally I may be mistakenKeep me reasonably sweet, I do not want to be a saint-Some of them are hard to live with-but a sour old personIs one of the crowning works of the devilGive me the ability to see good things in Unexpected places, and talents in unexpected peopleAnd give me Oh Lord, the grace to tell them soAn Irish BlessingMay the roads rise to meet youMay the winds be always on your backMay the sun shine warm upon your faceThe rains fall soft upon your fieldsAnd until we meet again, may GodHold you in the hollow of his handA PrayerLet me do my work each dayAnd if the darkened hours of despair overcome meMay I not forget the strength that comforted me In the desolation of other timesMay I still remember the bright hours that found meWalking over the silent hills of my childhoodOr dreaming on the margin of a quiet riverWhen a light glowed within me, and I promised My early God to have courage amid the tempestsOf the changing yearsSpare me from bitterness and from the sharp passionsOf unguarded momentsMay I not forget that poverty and riches are of the SpiritThough the world know me not, may my thoughtsAnd actions be such as shall keep me friendly with myselfLift my eyes to the earth, and let me not forget The uses of the starsForbid that I should judge others lest I condemn myselfLet me not follow the clamour of the worldBut walk calmly in my pathGive me a few friends who will love me for what I amAnd keep burning before my vagrant stepsThe kindly light of hopeAnd though age and infirmity overtake meAnd I come not within sight of the castle of my dreamsTeach me still to be thankful for life, and for times Olden memories that are good and sweetAnd may the evening’s twilight find me gentle stillMax Ehrmann, 1948DesiderataGo placidly amid the noise and hasteAnd remember what peace there may be in silenceAs far as possible without surrenderBe on good terms with all personsSpeak your truth quietly and clearlyListen to others, even the dull and ignorantFor they too have their storyAvoid loud and aggressive personsFor they are vexations to the SpiritIf you compare yourself with othersYou may become vain and bitterFor always there will be greater and lesserPersons than yourselfEnjoy your achievements as well as your plansKeep interested in your own career – however humbleIt is a real possession in the changing fortunes of timeExercise caution in your business affairsFor the world is full of trickeryBut let this not blind you to what virtue there is-Many persons strive for high idealsAnd everywhere life is full of heroismBe yourself. Especially do not feign affectionNether be cynical about loveFor in the face of all aridity and disenchantmentIt is as perennial as the grassTake kindly to the counsel of the yearsGracefully surrending the things of youthNurture strength of spirit to shield youIn sudden misfortuneBut do not distress yourself with imaginingsMany fears are born of fatigue and lonelinessBeyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourselfYou are a child of the universeNo less than the trees and starsYou have a right to be hereAnd whether or not it is clear to youNo doubt the universe is unfolding as it shouldTherefore be at peace with GodWhatever you conceive him to beAnd whatever your labours and aspirationsIn the noisy confusion of life keep pace with your soulWith all its sham, drudgery and broken dreamsIt is still a beautiful world. A fair course against the white swelling surge. Four pedestals uphold it. A delight to the eyes, a glorious range, is the plain on which the hosts hold games. Fairest land throughout the world, on which many blossoms drop.An ancient tree there is in bloom, on which birds call to the hours. In harmony of song they are all wont, to chant together every hourColours of every shade glisten, throughout the gentle voiced plains. Joy is known, ranked in music, in silver cloud plain to the southward.Unknown is wailing or treachery, in the homely well tilled land. That's beautiful, you let your child learn anything he wants to know.
Theresa
Oh we went to court over the Creed incident back home.I won. But, they tried to claim that they never said anything to me about it.I fought them on freedom of religion as this is a meditation. It just went to prove how idiotic people run so many other peoples lives.I just seem to be the only person they run into that has any common sense and the courage to back it up.Theresa
