It's Better To Be Real

Some say

Life is cruel bad and mean

We must be cold and mean first

Some say

Life is short, empty, base

We must satisfy with each moment

fill the purposelessness with waste pursuits

animal instincts of Survival rather than Living.

When one sees no prospects

all there is is present-day

moment-gratification

instead of means to an end

hijacking the Future as sell-outs

The bottom line is of the difference

between those who say

‘Tomorrow will be mine’

and those who say

‘I probably won’t live to see it.’

Some believe

Life is this exact moment only

with no thought of reward or consequence

for the next may be snatched away quicker

than the blink of an eye

Some believe

even Good in life is for nothing more

than immediate reach

with no meaning, no purpose

no need of self-restraint

for nothing is seen as being

anything beyond itself

but Grab It Consume It

Before someone steals it away

And as they believe

life is but a quick flash,

not only are possessions but also people disposable—

throw away

what you no longer want

and replace it with another

steal what belongs to someone else

shun attachments.

and cherish nothing.

For some believe

it is o.k.

to spin in a fog of apathy

Thinking foolish, to be sneered at and disregarded,

those of us

who believe in living in fairness & justice

those of us

who believe the Goodness in life is

based on true human connection

where the dignity of Human Beings is the value

and that the value of life is far beyond

what one can clutch in one’s hand.

In reply to the title of the topic, " It's Better To Be Real"

Today's me "me"generation doesn't have a clue as to real, they wouldn't recognize it

if it climbed up their butt and camped out.

well, it's not relevant to the poem...

but whenever I see kids who fall into that category, it's not difficult to put it into perspective with 'look what they've got for parents'== the Original 'Me Generation'
