  2. February 13, 2018 Sermon # 2. Sabbath Day: What is it, When is it, and Keeping it Holy We as human beings alot of times think that we have much to do inside of our week. We juggle our work life and our home life together and sometimes we feel like we get overwelmed trying to find a happy balanced between the two. We get up, get ready for work, leave our families for sometimes 12 to 14 hours a day working to provide a home and put food on the table. We then come home and try to spend time with our loved ones while also trying to keep the home we work so hard for from falling into disrepair. We have to mow the lawn, trim the hedges, fix that broken board on the front stairs, paint the living room...the list goes on. So, you think you did alot this week? Let me tell you a story of a very, very busy week, one to put your most hectic, crazy week to shame. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2)And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3)And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4)And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5)And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day. Folks, that is just overwhelming to me. Can you picture that project in your mind. That's a huge undertaking in itself. Creating the heaven, earth, day and night, and the water. By the way, this was just the first day. So, in today's understanding God went to work Monday morning, "hypothetically speaking" and by the time he clocked out at 5:00 or so he had done all these things. That's alot of work in just one day. Genesis 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7)And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8)And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day. So day two and we have a formed earth, water, and the firmament or as we know it, Heaven. I've done some creative work in my time. I've designed landscapes, done some home improvement projects. I lived in a mobile home park in a double wide trailer. I had a leak inside the wall of the shower that caused alot of water damage to the walls and floor. It took my father and I two days to gut that bathroom and rebuild it. New shower enclosure, new vanity, new sheetrock, new floor tiles. Two men, two full days; and we still didn't get the door put back up. God created Heaven, earth, day, night and water by himself in the same amount of time. I need to step up my game. Genesis 1:9 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10)And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11)And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12)And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13And the evening and the morning were the third day. So here we are now, just finished "hump day" and God has created heaven and a formed earth with water and land and grass and trees. When I was a young boy, maybe 7 or 8 I can remember helping to plant these little baby pine trees with my father. He believed in replacing and replanting; meaning for every tree he cut down on our property he would plant 2 to replace it. We spent a whole day digging holes, putting these little trees in the ground, watering them, adding a little plant food. We spread them out all over our acre and a half piece of property. That was 35 years ago round abouts. Most of those trees have grown up and are still there and over the years I got to watch them grow; they're now as tall as the house. Heard what I said? Over the years. And God made all the dry land appear and placed all the trees and grass over all the dry land in one day. By now, I would have needed a vacation, like a month off or more. Can you imagine being one of the angels hanging out with God and just watching this all happening, creation being created. It must have been so beautiful and wonderful to see, but wait. God's not done. He's got a few more days worth of work on his ToDo list. Genesis 1:14And God said let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and for years. We're talking about the constellations now like the Big and Little Dipper, Orion and the rest as you can see them move about the night sky as the seasons change. 15)And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16)And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: What are these two great lights Moses is talking about here? The sun and the moon. 16 cont)he made the stars also. 17)And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth. 18)And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19)And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. Whoooowh!! What an intense week this has been so far. Genesis 1:20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21) And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundently, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22) And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23) And the evening and the morning were the fifth day. So at this point God has worked five days on creation. Most of us put in a five day work week, and after those five days they are exhausted. Well, as we all know; God's still not done. If He was then Charles Darwin might have had a leg to stand on with his Theory of Evolution because we still don't have man or land beasts but folks Darwin doesn't because the bible goes on to tell us that God put in "overtime". He worked a sixth day on creation. Genesis 1:24And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25)And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and everything that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And here it comes folks; 26)And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness bye bye theory of evolution saying that we came from a puddle of ooze) and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27)So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. So God made mankind, and thought so highly of us that he gave dominion, or control over all the earth; plants, animals, birds, fish. I don't even trust my dog to stay home alone out of his cage because he destroys the house and I've had him for six years. Ok, so lets jump to vers 31And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 2:1Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2)And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3)And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. All I can say is WOW!! What a week. We could never, even if everybody in this church, everyone in this city, every person in this state , or every single living person in this country all combined our efforts, could ever...never never ever come close to accomplishing the amount of work God did in a single day, let alone what he accomplished in an entire week. So now God rested on the seventh day; he also blessed and sanctified it (or set it apart and made it Holy). He did that for a reason and we should honor that reason. So how do we honor it if we don't know why or even when it is. Well, let's find out. First the reason why is simple. God commanded us to, he even wrote it on a stone tablet with his own hand along with nine other commandments. In Exodus 20:8-11 Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9)Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10)But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: 11)For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day: wherefor the LORD blessed the sabbath and hallowed it. God needed only four words to tell us not to kill. He used ninety-four to tell us the importance of remembering the sabbath, and why. Why is right there too, because the LORD blessed and hallowed(or honored as holy) the sabbath. Some will say that with the arrival, death, and resurrection of the messiah (Christ) that we no longer have to observe the sabbath; much like circumcision and sacrificial animals. They argue this with the letter the apostle Paul wrote to the Colossian Christians, a gentile congregation of this in Colossians 2:14, 16-17 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross. 16)Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: 17)which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. This passage is interpreted by those who reject God’s festivals as confirmation that the biblical feast days are unnecessary observances. This reasoning is based on poor scholarship and inacurate translations from the original wording of Paul’s instructions. In this passage, we can by it's context, see that Paul is countering a local heresy. False teachers had infiltrated and influenced the Colossian Christians by introducing their own religious philosophy. So by Paul countering these false teachers he actually confirms and explains the value of God’s days to Christians. They foreshadow “things to come” not things that have already come. So what Paul is saying here is the focus of God’s festivals is on the future, relating God’s plan directly to the commission Christ gave His church. Unlike circumcision and animal sacrifices and many other Old Testament rituals and traditions that were nailed to the cross with Christ, remembering the sabbath was one of the Ten Commandments. It wasn't up for debate. Thou shalt not kill. Was that rendered obsolete with the arrival and resurrection of Christ? How about thou shalt not commit adultry, thou shalt not steal? So Jesus came and died for our sins so now we can go steal from our neighbor's house, while sleeping with his wife and then kill him on the way out the door? No, absolutlety not. Those commandments are still 100% in effect after the coming of and resurrection of the messiah. Remembering the sabbath is no different folks. God made it very clear when he used ninety-four words to explain how important it was from Exodus 20:8-11. So now let's discuss when should the sabbath be observed. Many churches today will tell you the sabbath is of course Sunday, the Lord's Day. Anyone know why? Around 314 A.D. Pope Sylvester 1 orders the days of the week to be renamed, which at the time were named after different Roman gods but decrees the transfer of sabbath rest to Sunday (the Lord's Day) because on it the Lord rose from the dead, and on that order that on that day we should rest from all worldly works for the praise of God. Around this same time Constantine was emperor of Rome. He was also the first Roman emperor to convert to Christianity. In 321 A.D. Constantine proclaimed Sunday to be the legal day of rest and ordered all judges, city-people and craftsman to cease work and rest. Now, for most Christians the normative has become worshipping on the Lord's Day (Sunday). So we have two men here around 300 A.D. that decided to make Sunday the sabbath. The first day of the calender week. Folks, lets go back for a second to Exodus and the Ten Commandments. Exodus 20:11For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested on the seventh day: wherefor the LORD blessed the sabbath and hallowed it. He didn't rest on the first day of the week. He rested on the seventh. That's the day he commands us to keep holy and to do no work. The sabbath runs from Friday evening at sunset to Saturday evening at sunset, period. Nowhere in the bible does God ever change that. Two men changed it. God created the earth with glory and power. Men destroyed the earth with sin and wickedness. Who do you want to believe? May God Bless all who hear and read this with understanding of his word. Your brother in faith; ReverendDaveULC
  3. From the posts that i have read with his comments that is the conclusion that I drew. If I am wrong then I do apologize but for any newcomer such as myself viewing just a handful of his previous comments adding to the comments on my post most would probably come to the same conclusion. He seems to continue to believe that I am hostile toward the fact that he is an atheist. He could not be further from the truth. I could really care less. My mission is to bring truth to the world. What the people do with that truth is their own buisness. If people do not agree with or like what I have to say then don't read it and move on to something else but it is out there for those that do want to hear it and may get something out of what I have to say. If I dont like something that I read or hear i move on or change the station/channel ect.. I don't try to accuse people of being hostile or anything of that nature because I disagree with what they believe or say. I only ask for that same right, especially when what I originally had wrote about fell into the catagory of this forum(philosophy and theory) but now somehow turned into a circus that nobody will follow. With that, I am done with this topic
  4. That would be church history which is truth. You just like to start problems which i am done with.Respond back all you want but you will get no further response from me. Enjoy trying to agrravate others because that is what you live for. You must have a really lonely existence and you have my pity.
  5. Cuchulain I hold no hostility to anyone and nothing offends me. It just seems to me by reviewing your comments to others who have posted you seem to only antagonize people and start trouble but have no topics to start of your own. Why is this? Do you feel the need to try and justify your atheist believe by making it seem that the rest of us have a problem with it when we infact do not. We hold no hostility toward your belief, you are free to believe what you want. Just stop trying to make it seem like everybody has a problem with it. Right in the ULC manual and rules of this forum state freedom of religion or in your case freedom to believe in no religion at all. To continue to cause problems where there are none does nothing for your cause but promote foolishness. Peace be to you brother.
  6. I was answering a question for VonNoble. If you had read a little further you would have seen that. Instead you insist on trying to provoc me into an argument. I won't argue with you. That is not why I am here. Should i not answer questions when people ask them for fear of offending you? This is an open forum. I do not care that you are an atheist. That is of course your choice. It's not one i would make but I'm not you. I will continue to answer questions and teach the truth whether it offends you or not because that is my right just as being an atheist is your right. Peace be to you brother.
  7. VonNoble, it is not offensive if you truely seek the truth and understanding of God's word. The answer to your question about why Jesus spoke in parables can be found in Mattew chapter 13 starting at verse 10 Bare with me as I recite scripture and then I will explain it. Matthew 13:10 10 And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables? 11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath. 13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: 15 For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. 16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. God gave mankind free will to do and to believe what we want. God loves us very much, so much that he sent his only Son to us to die for our sins so that we may be forgiven. We were created by God in His image and just as we love our children and try to teach and guide them they utimatley choose their own path and when they do we scold or punish them. God is no different. He gives us instruction. 66 books penned by over 40 writers inspired by 1 author; God himself. It's called the Holy Bible. To just anybody picking up this book and reading it seems like gibberish. Only when we se to know God our Father on a spiritual level is His word explained to us. You do not need an interpreter to understand the Bible. If you pray to God from your heart and ask for u derstanding of his word he will grant you unsterading. This what Jesus was speaking of when he said they have eyes but do not see and ears but do not hear. They did not seek to understand His word, therefore they did not. Yes, Pastors, Reverends, Priests, Elders help to interpret the message but if you don't seek understanding then it still won't make sense. Many people go to church not because they seek God but because that's what they think they are suppose to do and it's more of a show than an act of faith. Every single person is a sinner, no matter how perfect they may seem to be on the outside. Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:9-20 9 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes. 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. This is the reason God no longer conversates with us in the traditional sense of verbal conversation. In the begining God walked and talked with man in the Garden of Eden. When man sinned for the 1st time by disobeying God's commandment of not eating from the tree of knowledge he separated himself from God. God is without sin and can't be anywhere near it so when man sinned he removed Himself from our presence. He now talks to us by other means; conviction of the heart (our conscience) by his angels guiding us, by our fellow man who bring us his word and plant the seed in our hearts. By you asking questions as you have shows you want to know more. That is the first step my friend. That is were your walk begins. God doesnt want to condemn us but rather give us eternal life with him in paradise. He longs for us to believe in Him. This is achieved by having faith Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. This means that salvation and eternal life is not granted by good works but by faith alone. You could do good works all your life and still not recieve salvation because you never had faith. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. This means having faith and believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and was sent here to die on a cross for us, to pay a price that we never could, that the shedding of his blood would wash our sins away. This is the belief and faith God wants us to have. I hope this answered some of your questions. please feel free to ask anything you want. As I said, I do not find it offensive, God called me to teach and preach his word and I serve him happily. May God grant you understanding of the message He has given you today. This does not come from me but is inspired by God alone. I am nothing but a vessel used by Him to bring His word to the world.
  8. Ok, heres a history lesson for you. The old testament was originally written in Hebrew, not Latin and the new testament was written in Greek, not Latin. As far as being read by only priest that was the Popes order. He wanted to control the information given to the people. Salvation was ment for all who believed in Christ. The Pope wanted people to believe salvation was only through him. This is simply church history, part of year one seminary college for bachelors degree in theology.
  9. VonNoble, you are welcome. Funny you should say that the bible is a Jewish book and the gentiles play only a small role when todays true Jewish people are still waiting for the 1st coming of the messiah and do not believe that Jesus was he. The bible was penned by men but authored by God. God does not see Jew or gentile, black or white. He sees His creation, created in His image. All mankind decended from God's original creation of Adam. Bloodlines throughout the centuries have been tainted by evil and fallen angels but we are still decendents of Adam and also Eve for without her there would be no children.
  10. VonNoble, it doesn't say the word Catholic for the same reason Jesus spoke in parables. For the ones who sought the truth they would recieve understanding of the word. For the ones who did not seek the truth and chose to turn away from God they would not understand what was written or spoken to them. Mieshec, sounds like what you are refering to is what some call the rapture. You say this will happen on May 14, 2018. Jesus said in Mathew 24:36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. As far as idols, the cross is not an idol to me it's something we all bear. It is a reminder of God's love of the human race. In the old testament we were required by God to sacrifice our best animal to him as a sign of faith to forgive our sins; usually a lamb. In the new testament Jesus Christ took the place of the animal sacrifice of faith for all mankind. God's Son was sent for this purpose. John 3:17 For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
  11. By the way Cuchulain, here is the definition if philosophy... the study of the fundamental nature of knowledge, reality, and existence, especially when considered as an academic discipline. a particular system of philosophical thought. plural noun: philosophies "Schopenhauer’s philosophy" the study of the theoretical basis of a particular branch of knowledge or experience. "the philosophy of science" synonyms: thinking, thought, reasoning "the philosophy of Aristotle" So I think what I said does belong in philosophy rather than preaching. If you'd like me to preach on this subject I can do that too.
  12. That's the problem with the world today. Everybody finds something offensive. I'm sorry if you find history offensive but it is history not an opinion. That is why there is freedom of speech and freedom of expression. You choose to believe there is no God. I choose to bellieve the word of God and choose to try and teach the truth to the masses. You have the choice to accept what I teach to be truth or to choose not to accept it. I don't condemn you for that choice or find what you say to be offensive. That's not for me to judge. In respect if you find what I have to say as offensive then kindly move on. I don't judge you, in return do not judge me, just respect the fact of my beliefs as I respect your beliefs of no belief at all. May God, whom you do not believe in, bless you and peace be to you.
  13. And thats what you took from that? You must be Catholic. The Roman Catholic Church murdered over 50 million baptists and other Christians through a period of 600 years using extreme torture devices and technics all because they wouldn't accept their ways. Look it up. It's in the history books and the Catholic Encyclopedia. The Catholic Church doesn't teach by scripture, they add to it with their own writings, change meanings and wording of the bible. John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. Yet, the Pope says no one can recieve salvation who isn't Catholic. John 3:16 For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. The Pope belives you can only be saved through him. Herasy. The Pope claims to be the Vicar of Christ..blasphemy. Do you want to believe God's word, or the words of many conceited, power hungry sin filled Popes. Do your history. It is not my opinion of the Catholic religion, it is historical and biblical fact. I am teaching truth not opinion. You have made your opinion of me and that's fine. You have that right, just as I have the right to teach and preach the truth. May the LORD bless you RabbiO and peace be to you.
  14. And there came one of the seven angels which had the seven vials, and talked with me, saying unto me, Come hither; I will shew unto thee the judgment of the great whore that sitteth upon many waters: 2With whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication. 3So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness: and I saw a woman sit upon a scarlet coloured beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns. 4And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: The woman spoken of here is the Roman Catholic Church. Her bishops and Cardinals are dressed in scarlet(red) and purple. Their cathedrals are adorned with gold, jewels and precious stones. The head of the Roman Catholic Church (the Pope) drinks from a golden cup. The headquarters of the Church sits on 7 Hills. 5And upon her forehead wasa name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. 6And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. The Roman Catholic Church is responsible for the death of at least 50,000,000 Christians during the 600 year inquisition because they refused to adhere to the Popes rule. The Pope calls himself "The Holy Father". That's God's title. He also calls himself the Vicar of Christ. This is blasphemy. The scriptures proclaim The Holy Spirit is the Vicar of Christ (meaning the one sent to stand in for Christ) and it wasn't a man. Many of history's Pope's fornicated with married women and had many illegitimate children 7And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns. 8The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is. 9And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. 12And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. 14These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. 15And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. 16And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 18And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.
  15. Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the father, but by me. John 14:6
