1. Official message from Headquarters:

All of us here at Universal Life Church, Headquarters in Modesto, CA are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our President, Lida G. Hensley. Lida Hensley passed away on Sunday, December 31st, 2006. She is survived by her three children, 5 grandchildren, and her 4 great-grandchildren.

Lida's memorial service will be Sunday, January 14th at 10am, here at Universal Life Church, Headquarters. Our address is 601 Third St., Modesto, CA 95351. Your presence would be greatly appreciated as we celebrate and remember her life. We will, as always, be offering an open forum where our visitors are encouraged to get up and speak if they wish. If you cannot make it but would still like your words heard, we ask that you send them in to us, either via postal mail or email to memorial-at-ulchq.com. There will be a board meeting following the service where the results will be announced on January 15th.

In July 2007, the Hensley family will make a trip to the family plot in NC where Lida and Kirby Hensley will be interred simultaneously on their wedding anniversary, per their wishes.

We would like to take this time to give thanks for all condolences received and all we have yet to receive. The love and support from our ministers has been and always will be greatly appreciated.

PS-the email isn't coming out right. It is memorial-at-ulchq.com. If you have a message of condolence that you would like the family to get, you can send it to that email as well and I will make sure they get it.

    CJ Hensley

    ULC Staff

May their spirits always rest in peace.

  2. A while back there was being offered a service that you could have a user-at-ulcmail.net email address.

If enough members are still interested in this I can make it happen almost instantly. Although this time it would be entirely free! A little different methodology than before, but still quite workable.

    http://www.ulcmail.net

Edited: It's working. Just go to the site above and complete the registration process.

NOTE: YOU MUST HAVE AT LEAST 100 POSTS TO BE ELIGIBLE. LOSS OF FORUM PRIVILEDGES RESULTS IN LOSS OF SERVICE!

    100 Posts ? Why the limit ?

  3. I'm going to agree with this statement. Ultimately, "truth" is only as true as the depth of our knowledge. Sometimes, what we have always held as true is indeed revealed to not be. I personally believe that "truth" is therefore transparent.

I would say that truth is what we believe about something given what we know at the time about that subject.

  4. Does the truth come in colors?

    Von

If your refering to the great spirit or whatever you choose to call that which is undefinable by our limited humanity then I would say that color is a non-issue.

He-she-it will take whatever form thats easiest for you to relate to.

    OK :thumbu:

But if the truth as you see it turns out to be wrong, because of the introduction of facts, it cannot remain the truth, right? Therefore the original truth must not have been the truth, but only opinion.

    :coffee:

Who knows. It's just a fun exercise.... :beach:

Which also goes to show that there is NO ONE truth.

  5. What defines a person as old?

And what defines a person as wise?

Is it likely a person age 20 - 25 would be widely viewed as wise?

    Von

    Good questions.

Im not sure that I can honestly say what defines anyone as old but as for being wise, I would say that the person's actions and words or in some cases the person's silence will either give the impression of wisdom or foolishness depending on the circumstances.

As for the perception of the young, I would say that it isnt likely that any young person below the age of 40 would be seen by the majority of the people as being wise unless extraordinary circumstances were a factor simply because we as a society have been brainwashed over the years to think that only the elderly can have wisdom but whether the majority of the people see it as so or not, that doesnt mean that a young person, even one as young as 6 or 7 couldnt possess wisdom beyond her or his years.

    Perhaps even younger.

Dumb and dumber? Hahahahah ..very funny... you really shouldn't be teachin' school.... :shift:

Do you actually have a point to make or are you just being a troll ?

  6. So, from my exalted throne on Mount Adminpus, I gaze down upon you mortals, and I'm pleased, but puzzled. (end joking)

I'm curious. Many of you know that I've been admin here for almost 5 years. In that time we've gone from ~600 members to almost 7000.

Obviously, many of our members don't return, or have found other interests, or whatever. But, we do have a suprisingly large contingent, at least to me, of people who have made this their "home" forum of choice.

Why is that? What keeps you coming back? Why ya'll like it here?

Well, speaking for myself, I feel that as an ordained minister, I should keep in touch with my fellow ministers and the church that ordained me.

What better way to do that than to visit this forum ?

  7. What makes an action morally wrong?

When it causes harm to self or others.

The definition of what is NOT moral is exactly the opposites of that IS moral. But for one what is immoral may be moral to others. An absolute definition of what is moral (or in some cases ethical as it can be spoken in the same lines) needs to be set, and respected by the majority. This will not work with society in general, but will with groups.

Well, Ive always understood morality to mean the understanding of whats right and whats wrong.

  8. I finally found my ordination date. August 1998. Almost 9 years ago. Wow.

So why? At the time it was the "cheesiest way possible." I'm pagan, though my beliefs don't fit into any small, tiny box. I don't think anyones really do. I like the ULC ordination because it helps me to feel empowered, even though paper or not, it's your words and beliefs that sell your credibility, not the piece of paper. I'd like to be able to perform legal weddings here in Ontario, Canada but for the time being, it'll all be good.

"No day but today" - Rent

    Merry meet Reverend Phoenix.

Is there a reason why your unable to perform your ceremonial duties ?

I applied yesterday to be ordained because my youngest sister has asked me to officiate her wedding this summer. What an honor! And what a decision.

Last year a friend of a friend got married, and she had her brother, who became ordained online to do so, officiate. I remember thinking at the time - whaaa??? And I must admit, I laughed about it and thought it was crazy. And then yesterday morning I was asked to do my sister's wedding.

You know what they say - you never know until it happens to you. I wasn't prepared for how torn I would feel about doing this! I am a follower of God, a non-denominational Christian, but not well versed in the bible, not a regular church goer, and often struggle and falter in my faith. I have good values and Jesus in my heart, but didn't feel "good enough" to become ordained, having the "old school" way of thinking that I have not earned the right to become a minister.

So what an unexpected struggle I had in my heart yesterday. In recent years I've felt my bond with God and what I do to keep that bond strong grow more important to me, and felt that something bigger, or important was trying to come through in my life. I know without a doubt that becoming ordained is a step on the right path for me.

I have no intentions of starting a church, or having followers. And to my surprise it's way more than just officiating my sister's wedding - it's a big step into the unknown!!

Of course, I have to be officially ordained first - at this point I still haven't received an email confirmation from ULC.

    :)

    Merry meet Mindy.

It would seem to me that you do indeed have the heart of a minister and I look forward to when youll have the tile of reverend.

    Merry part and blessed be.

My purpose for becoming Ordained on-line is mostly because I KNOW that I have been called to serve...but maybe not in a specified church.

I had become a Mens Minister and Childrens Minister/ Mentor and was working towards eventually becoming ordained in our church...but it seemed that the more involved I became...the worse the backstabbing and so called politics would become.

I have a belief that our country and even the World is heading into a terrible place. Morailty, Values, tradition and even common sense is on the decline. In a country that more then 80% of the population claims to be Christian...it seems VERY few of us know or remember what that means!

We have Christian pastors and churches that are not only accepting of the gay lifestyle...but they are actually supporting this, despite the chosen lifestyle being an abomination to the Word of God.

Christian families are standing by while our public schools are using our public tax dollars to build "showers" for Muslim children to wash their feet as part of their religious "prayer"...Yet, our children are not allowed to recite the Pledge of Allegence because it contains the word God!

The harder and harder out politicians try to please the "special" minorities...The more and more we destroy the very morals and values that our country was founded upon!

It is time...past time to return to "supper time". Right and Wrong...Taking responsibility for our own lives and that of our children...time to QUIT crying about the hardships of your past...instead concentrate on today and work toward tomorrow!

    Merry meet criley.

While I disagree with on the subject of the homosexual community, I must admit that you have intrigued me with this information concerning the muslim children.

Would you please supply a link so that I may read about this for myself ?

    Thank you.

    Merry part and blessed be.

Don't know if I already posted but...I joined because I felt that's what She wanted from me.....

    Merry meet Reverend Fred.

May I ask who "she" is ?

Because I know of no church willing to admit, train, and ordain a 50 year old poor crippled lesbian who is too much a mystic for Unitarians, too liberal for everyone else, and who already comes with her own followers (I didn't recruit them, they just accreted). That's "too old", "too poor to pay for seminary", "too disabled and looks too funny", "wrong gender", "wrong orientation", "theologically way too weird", and "looks like a prepackaged schism" all wrapped up in one.

The ULC is about the only taker for that combination.

    Merry meet and welcome. :)

    Your Friend,

    Rev. Jonathan

    Thanks reverand jonathan.

I took your advice and was able to set up my own ministry there as well.

    Blessed be.

  10. Merry meet reverend gabrielle.

Ive always believed that to minister, all you have to do is simply show that you care about others.

It starts with your friends and family then goes to neighbors.

You should make sure that your own basic needs are taken care of first such as housing.

In fact, you can use your apartment for small gatherings of you and your friends where you simply let them know that your an ordained minister and that if they need someone they can trust to talk with, then you would be willing to listen.

Thats an important form of ministry right there.

Simply lending a non-judgmental, non-biased ear to those in need of a good listener.

Then later, once youve established your reputation as a universal life minister then you can worry about having a congregation and you dont need fancy shmancy trappings and such to have a good church because any good church is defined by the person doing the ministering and those who come to you.

Blessed be and good fortune to you and your ministry.

Because it was a calling for me

I was 18 and told God' after Our many tribulations that I was going anotherway.....

to help people .... So I went into work in a Nurseing home for 26 years....

and then 3 years ago i got ordained ......... best thing i did for me

then on oct 8th 2005 i was in a serious motorscotter accident .....

I am now recovering from .... and i ask ??? Why Lord Why didnt you let me come home

i seen alot of thiings why??? I have not recived an answer yet so if anyone see's this and gets 1

Please send it to me So Lost i want my life back!!

    Merry meet adventurer.

I believe that your god chose to continue to have you live so that you can continue to minister to those in need here on earth in whatever capacity they need you to minister to them.

I hope and pray that you continue to recover and that you regain your faith not only in your god but in yourself as well.

    Merry part and blessed be.

  11. Merry meet fellow ministers.

I chose to become ordained because I believe that as a minister of any faith, you shouldnt turn away from ministering to someone simply because theyre

    not of your faith.

I also believe that any given minister, being in effect, called to being a minister, should not charge excessivly if at all for her or his services.

Thats about it in a nutshell.

    Merry part and blessed be.
