It would be annoying in this day and age to live with the more obscure parts of the Bible which Mr. Jacobs shows. But it is fascinating to read about the different religions that the author visits during his year, and about some of his more interesting relatives (like his guru uncle in Israel.)It was sad to hear about the neighbour and all her problems and eventual death.
