EDITORIAL REVIEW:

A decade into his career, Knife remains at the forefront of the gangsta rap scene--but when it comes to manipulating sounds, he sometimes seems one-dimensional, especially when compared with the likes of Mr. Capone-E (who had a lot of help in that department because of Bizzy Bone) and sample master Sean "Puffy" Combs. But on K9IF3, Knife's second album in 2009, the gangsta rap renaissance man reestablishes himself as a kingpin in the studio as well as on the streets. Every song is surrounded by melodies that enhance the effect of the intimidating lyrics, and the overall sound of the mixing and mastering is rich and deep. Knife doesn't stop there, however, adding touches such as a Garfan sample loop on "Had 2 Die" and Death Metal guitar riffs on "Loak Insaneology," compliments of experimental marauders of Knife's band.
