| This I Believe: |
I favour the simplicity of Humanistic Buddhism, as taught by Venerable Master Hsing Yun of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order, and live my life in observance of the five precepts:
1. No Killing
2. No Stealing
3. No Lying
4. No Sexual Misconduct
5. No Unreasonable Use of Drugs or Alcohol.
I am not vegetarian. Where I deviate with traditional Buddhism is that I believe in a universal consciousness one might call God. This God means different things to different people. I don't believe this God torments and tortures people, or demands to be held holy over all other Gods. To demand such , to me at least, is an admission that there are in fact other Gods to be feared, or jealous of. Times have changed, and people have been encouraged to think for themselves for about 150 years now, in our history of perhaps, 60,000 or more years. We have a lot of catching up to do. We are all one race, we should all be working together for the good of all. The revolution has already started, the spiritual revolution for peace and harmony on Earth.
One should do what is right simply because it is the right thing to do. |
