And the "blackmailing" has already begun (here in the Netherlands). The minister of Healthcare - in a reaction to the privacy/constitutional rights movement - has responded that the lockdown will take longer without a corona app.

Am I the only one who responds "badly" to blackmailing...? :coffee:

Emotional response isn't really an issue.  In the end, either we are in compliance -- or we are not.  As you see; non-compliance has consequences.  They will get worse.

Yes. So basically:

[...] The (future) problem that is coming to reality now is:

1. People all over the world will "embrace" this "electronic mass surveillance" en masse because after the (perceived) threat of terrorism and child pornography we now have "health" to consider. And who can be against measures that are there to keep us healthy, right?

2. After the current "electronic mass surveillance" that can "only" see where you are and what you are doing; the next generation of "electronic mass surveillance" will be able to see how you feel. How? Well simple: because of the screening for health issues we will gladly provide our electronic devices with our biometrics (like heart rate, body temperature and blood pressure). Algorithms can quite simply derive our "mental states' from that. Imagine one day opening the door and the nice men asking you: Why did you get so wound up when watching the last speach of our great leader?" [...]

The UK is to start fining people who go for unnecessary trips out of doors. If you cannot prove your buying food, going to a chemist or your a key worker then you can be fined. I know this is about the corona virus but I wonder how long it will be before its done for other reasons.

I'm always amazed at how many people keep their heads firmly in the sand when it comes to that sort of stuff.

It's hard to accept how things have changed.  America used to be a bastion of freedom.  It was accepted that the evil commies -- Russia and China -- would spy on their own people.  That the American government, would spy on Americans, was unthinkable.  The problem with unthinkable things, is that people don't want to think about them.

Another problem is that much of this seems like science fiction.  When I was a child, it was science fiction.  Alas, the new reality is stranger than the old fiction.  Happy 1984 to us all.  It's a Brave New World.  We can also cite Animal Farm.  As the pigs said -- "Every one is equal.  Some are more equal than others."

That was a criticism of Stalin. Today I don't see any attempt to say we are equal. Its all I have more money and power than you so your trash. That seems true in Russia and the USA or the UK.for that matter. 😮

It seems our evolution has gone backwards. Any one here think Putin, Trump or Boris would cross the road to help you should you need it. I don't.

Yes.  Ironic, isn't it?  Stalin's great opposition was the American Republican Party.  Now, we have Putin.  Trump is earning his knee pads.

Breaking news, reported on radio.com

Apple and Google are working together, to produce virus tracking data.  If I understand the program -- when someone is found positive for the virus -- the program looks at all the other phones, that were near the phone over the past 14 days.

It's an interesting thought.  My phone will be tracking the proximity of all the other phones around me.  Everyone that I have contact with.  And where.  And when.  Every day.

The software is expected in May.  It will be for the Apple I-phones and the Google Androids.

I don't have a smart phone.  I have a dumb phone.  I'm wondering when my government will suggest an upgrade.  So that they can do more to keep me healthy and safe.

Even a "dumb" phone can track you. It needs to "know" where it is and report that so that incoming calls go to the right towers.

I've never had a mobe except for work, and that got de-batteried as soon as my shift ended.

This is true.  What my phone can't do, is track everybody who is near me.  At least, not yet.  Maybe.

It doesn't need to. Once the government decide that all your data belongs to them the tracks can be compared centrally for any person of interest. It's harder, so they're quite happy to have people install their own self-targeting app, but it can be done.

It's not only the government.  Announcing on Facebook, when I'm going to be away from home, is not a good idea.

Phone and computer apps aren't only ways to find people and where they may be. Already in existence are cameras everywhere, now coupled with facial recognition. Soon, mayhap, will also be hidden mics everywhere with voice recognition, too?

Of course.  What makes the situation in China so bad, is the new AI, coordinating and storing all of it.  Everybody, Everywhere, all the time.  Say hello to the future.  It's coming at us like a freight train.
