~ OK, I'm gonna be a 'thing' once again!

An 'American Haiku' is 5-7-5 syllable count

There's nothing wrong with that!

It's just a different art form than what is considered 'Real haiku'

{not constrained by syllable count, but by imagery}

Sorta like this stuff...

Dark limbs cross the moon

Dancing with an autumn wind

Drawing me closer

dark limbs

cross the moon

autumn wind draws me

I'm sorry, but I'm gonna do another, I love the abreviation of it so.

Hey! At least I'm only doing my own! ;)

Dark is the river

Moonlight strikes each gentle touch

Flashing to my eye

Nope. Couldn't do that one...

I like that! Haiku or not, it's pretty :)

Cherry tree blossoms

Cascade like a brides bouquet

Upon her headstone

& that's truer to traditional haiku imagery...

OK, I admit! I'm a true fan of American Haiku!!!

Nothing wrong with that - it's when people yipe and moan about "improper form" and take you to task for exploring verse that's the REAL pity...

soft winds in the night

the water ripples slowly

our life moves this way

ever so gently

the currents guide us farther

to our decisions

which path will we take

is our choice the correct one

our spirit knows this

and at our endpoint

will our evaluation

be what we hoped for

Thanks. I liked yours so much, I was inspired to try my hand at this again. As I was saying, I'm not very good at haiku, and unfortunately, it matters not that I'd like to be. :bag:

Hope you have the opportunity to visit the forum regularly.

May I add my voice to all of these? So many wonderful thoughts! This is mine. Probably not very good, but it's mine. ShadowDancer

Man sees an apple tree

I see possibilities

Worlds live within worlds

Time and space together

Science and magic in peace

Mankind gains knowlege

The Goddess' wish

To love one another

To learn together

See the possibilities

In a single apple tree

Seeds of love and change

Change is coming soon

The penulum is swinging

Time is without end

~ I haven't written haiku for a while... I'll try.

{I don't do 'American haiku', tho I can. I've studied Japanese haiku, based on imagery, not syllables. What the... I'll do one of each. Or try to!}

bare trees

reflecting

on ice

trees barren reflect

upon the frozen water

winter's complexion

... I prefer the 'Japanese' form... more contemplative, refined?

I don't know, condensed. Able to have more meanings.

It's hard tho' to craft an image, a 'snap-shot' of a moment in few words.

{That's what 'Japanese' haiku is, a moment, an image caught.}

'American' haiku's catching on in Japan even! Altered of course due to the incompatability of the languages...

And then there's the Neo-Japanese Haiku:

it's

all

good

Okay, I admit, I made that up.

The name "Neo-Japanese," that is, not the haiku.

On second thought, I made up the haiku, too.

Well actually, I didn't make up the phrase which makes up the haiku, but I am perhaps the first to present that phrase in the form of a haiku. Does that count for anything?
