Since this is post #666, I thought I would ask your thoughts about this number and numerology in general. I believe the Reagans once has a house address changed from 666 to something else. Are you afraid of the number 666? What significance does it have to some people? I am unfamiliar with it.

Also, do you have a lucky number? Why do you consider it lucky? Why do many buildings not have a 13th floor? I honestly do not understand why one would believe in such things...

For centuries, man has been mystified and fascinated by the above passage from the Book of Revelation. “The Beast” refers to the Antichrist, who during Earth’s last days, will unite the world in peace and harmony. However, in order to take part in this prosperity, everyone is required to receive the “Mark of the Beast,” presumably the number 666, on their forehead or right hand, in order to engage in commerce.2 All of this is actually a plot to convert everyone to the worship of Satan, so that he may triumph over God in the battle between good and evil. To make a long and complicated story short and sweet, Jesus comes down with a horde of angels, a great battle takes place, and Good wins the day. Satan and the Beast are cast into the Lake of Fire for eternity, and all their followers are slain.3

Just what is so intriguing about the number 666, and who could the author of Revelation have been referring to? This paper is not intended to be a treatise on either the Antichrist or the Book of Revelation, nor will it attempt to convince the reader that the Antichrist is coming tomorrow and the end of the world is imminent. However, what this paper will do is examine some of the interesting mathematical properties of the Number of the Beast, as well as take a look at some of those people who have been identified as the Beast, and how their identities were deduced.

As I understand it, in Hebrew numbers and letters were the same, and the numbers 666 also happen to be the letters for the Roman Emperor Nero. St. John of Patmos was clearly refering to Nero, so facts had to be bent to fit the vision.

I don't have a lucky number, but I must confess that I prefer nine to other numbers. I just like the sound of the word, so if I can make something be 9 in number, I will.

I think that it is foolish to do things like skip the number 13 when numbering the floors of a building. The thirteenth floor is still the thirteenth floor, even if one calls it the 14th.

Many religions hold certain numbers to have meaning; 666 has no meaning for me, but 108 (1,008or 10,008; etc) has some meaning. But it is my understanding that numbers in themselves have the meaning we give them. Just my thoughts.

Because you are not a Hindu. Precisely what I was trying to say: 108 has a lot of meaning for me, but it has no meanig for you; 666 has no important meaning for me, but has a lot of meaning for the Christian world. JimBob did a marvelous research.

In the Hindu pantheon, everyone of the Divinities has at least 108 Names. It is considered auspicious to repeat the 108 Names of you chosen Deity. It is also considered auspicious to repeat you chosen Mantra (sacred word or prayer) at least 108 times a day.

The spiritual meaning of numbers is a cultural thing of our respective religions.
