Dear Fellow ULC Ordained Ministers
I need to ask , am in Western Australia,
How can I start to begin to gather together a Church community and fellowship for worship
ULC Ordination is not recognised in Australia,
wish someone would get it registered with Attorney Generals Dept. Why cant ULC HQ do this?. They have good lawyers I take it?.
Am so sick and tired of people saying ULC ordinations are not valid or credible.
I love this church of ULC.
I love th motto, and the credo.
I love the fact that we are all accountable for our actions,
I love the fact that I believe that The Holy Spirit and God have called me to Ministry.
I do not fit into any of the other churches as they have such fizxed rigidity and dogmas which I think are mostly anti women and anti gays etc, and I just dont agree with that philosophy of exclusionism.
I welcome all to teh Table of Our Lord.
i blieve that I am guided to Ministry.
I have bought all my own vestments, catholic red and white ones, albs, chasuble and vestments but was angry I had payed so much- 1000 dollars at least, which to my way of thinking is outrageous.
I have thus decided to buy some patterns and using low cost materials as a ministry, make low cost vestments only for us in ULC too.
I love this church and am very very proud to be Ordained here in ULC no matter what anyone says I believe it is God inspired called and recognised by God almighty,
Can we in ULC in Australia organise something to form a unified ULC HQ here or something here for ULC members in Oz.
Reverend Tess McNamara Western Australia
Hi Rev. Tess! Wow! If you start making low cost vestments, let me know. I'm also an independent catholic priest, and am in need of vestments. Right now, I have an alb and a clerical shirt and collar. I believe in simplicity. Personally, I can't imagine Jesus running around in those heavily brocaded chasubles I've seen in the catalogs. And you're right, they are outrageously priced. So I just keep it simple. Anyway, let me know if you do start making vestments. You just might have a customer here.

Just got done reading I Am Legend. If the movie is like the book, I'll pass. But then again, Hollywood changes books so much, it probably won't even be anything like the book. I'm still in the process of reading Anam Cara, A Book of Celtic Wisdom. And, after school gets back in session, my classes will be reading Esperanza Rising and To Kill A Mockingbird.
Is it just me, or does it seem that books written now are less challenging and thought provoking than those written 10-20+ years ago?

My prayers are with you and your family.

Bel, my heart goes out to you and your friends family. May you all find peace in this troubling time.

My condolences Blackthorn. My thoughts are with you.

1. The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
2. The Dragonriders of Pern series
3. The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy
4. Ender's Game series
I've found that these books have been fantastic for getting kids interested in reading. So if you have a reluctant reader, you might want to try these books.

So what's the book's title? That way I know what to go buy...

I don't mean to sound stupid here but I'm a little bit confused after reading about when to wear what color of stole. Could some explain it in lamen's terms?
Just a guess for White and Green.
White: Weddings, Funerals, and Holidays
Green: Casual
Some of us come from catholic backgrounds, and some of us are independent catholic priests. The colors are:
Purple: Lent (The 40 days before Easter), Advent (the 4 weeks before Christmas), to hear confessions, and when you're surving communion in a hospital.
Red: During Holy Week, Pentecost Sunday (when we believe the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples), for ordinations, and at a mass that celebrates the death of a martyr.
White: During the 12 days of Christmas, the 50 days of Easter, for funerals, weddings, on Trinity Sunday, and Epiphany Day
Green: Pretty much whenever you can't wear the other colors. Basically, its the Sundays after Epiphany Day and before Ash Wednesday and after Pentecost and before Advent.
Hope this helps.

Please listen if you have a moment
I would like to tell you a tale
Concerning one interesting fellow
Known as Lazy Larry
Lazy Larry was a cantankerous fellow
Ever so humble when woman were around
Soon as they left he'd act like a clown
Ready and helpful was he
Everytime a lady could see
Perhaps lazy larry wouldn't be so nice
Or perhaps he wouldn't be so humble
Rather he would be the same old lazy larry if....
The lady could be convinced to marry
Poor Larry...

Which version of the Bible do you like most, and why?
I have a number of different translations - both in hardcopy and taken from MacSword online - and I lean towards NIV (hard copy) and Jubilee 2000 (on my laptop) versions. I have copies of the NKJV, but use them for cross-referencing at times.
Which is(are) your favourite(s)?
Let's see....for poetry and ease of memorization, I'd say King James.
For study, I LOVE my Harper Collins Study Bible.....
My hubby prefers the NIV, RSV, and Message translations....they're easier to read.
-
Very much so! When I was first learning about Christianity, in high school, I found it invaluable. My family was not religious at all (in fact my mother is anti religious), so I had no real understanding of any religion as a child.
Hmmm, you might want to try The Message translation then. It's even more modern language.

The Currently Reading topic is getting pretty long and I thought it would be a bit difficult for people to try and sift through all the reviews of books and such, so I wanted to start this series of topics intending to provide an outlet to not just say what you were currently reading, but to allow you to recommend books that you've read in the past.
Try The Grand Inquisitor by Dostoyevsky. It's actually an excerpt from The Brothers Karamazov. It's an interesting debate between Christ and the Grand Inquisitor during the Spanish Inquisition, that speaks to the nature of man.

Good job Rev. Allyson....It is a beautiful ceremony.
-
Quite true Rev. Allyson.

...or you can try the Book of Common Prayer...(available in most book stores). It contains an order of service for sundays, as well as baptisms, confirmations, weddings, etc.....
-
Well, you could always try asking a catholic priest to bless the home.

Sounds like an interesting book. Let me know if it's any good. As for half of Americans not being able to name one Gospel, that actually wouldn't surprise me....You have to remember, kids were probably asked too. And every year, I overhear kids talking about how they are either Christian or Catholic. And when I was the adult sponsor for an after school Christian club (Sponsor means all I did was sit and supervise....I did NOT teach) I had parents that pulled their kids from the club and chewed me out because according to them, how dare I allow a Catholic girl to be a member of the club because everyone knows they aren't. So trust me...the statistic about 1/2 of Americans not being able to name a gospel would not surprise me.

Beautiful ceremony! THank you for sharing it with us!
