  1. Fun story. But the idea that "You dont have to be wrong for me to be right" is true only in the most rare circumstances. Usually, it is not true.

That's your opinion, but you dont have to be wrong. What about Art? Music? TV shows? Movies? Food? Clothing? Having pets? Teacher evaluations? Jobs? Governments? Political parties? You say you like it and I hate it. Nope, I say the situation is true in a lot of instances, including responding to your post. Peace.

Yes, my opinion. I base that on fact and logic. Of course, this does not apply to things as art or entertainment, as you rightly suggest. But ideology and philosophy is not "art or entertainment."

You then mentioned political philosophy.......and there is where you stray out of your comfort zone. Political philosophy can EASILY be defined as right and wrong, good and bad. Isn't that obvious? Show me where in the world and when in history has liberalism EVER created prosperity??? It does not benefit humanity, as the politicians like to smear, but instead it only creates dependents, drones, functionaries, voters, and the like.

If you want to carry this debate to it's ultimate conclusion, lets do it. My philosophy takes nothing from you.....perhaps your's takes much from me.....more to the point, it takes much from future generations.....generational theft. Good on ya....

And lets consder this......libs are entirely anti-human/child.....pro-abortion, putting massive debt on our children, stealing from future gerentations....what, you hate our progeny???....maybe atheistic and socialist in origin, perhaps..... but to say that "you don't have to be wrong for me to be right" is ridiculous. Right and wrong are things of morailty, not style (as you suggest in you citation of art and movies and inane television, etc...) Moraility and ethics matters.... not politics!!!

  2. Doesn't the testimony of thousands of individuals count as evidence. It does in a court of law :)

    1. Cite those "thousands of individuals."

    2. Since when is "mob rules" used as science?

    3. Courts of law should refelct law, not mass hysteria.

Fuzzy, I was asking the question of another poster, who posed the queastion. But I am glad to engage with you, an OLD partner. Allow me to re-phrase the question: What evidence do you have of reincarnation? While I, like millions of others, want it to be true, on what should we base this fantasy?

  3. I found this most enjoyable and would like to share with you. I especially like the term: "You dont have to be wrong for me to be right." And the other way around. The title is "The rabbi and the Christian cab driver." Enjoy. Peace.

    Interesting read.

But by and large, for someone to be right someone else must be wrong. Most, but not all, things are black and white.

  4. I was being teased about being a women preachers and a woman .i lost my ambition to keep studing all religions . I lost the drive and my faith . I just recently got it back . And still keep working on my study not only do i make my mom proud i am making me proud as well

Because i decided i was too good to give up on some thing i love to do .and even tho i get teased i think to my self these people who tease me is not and will not be able to know the hell i went thru in my life walk a mile in my shoes

I would suggest that true faith transcends such obstacles. Be who you are.

  5. I've been thinking about this a lot lately.

A lot of faith can be mixed up with an established group. A religion.

But do you personally preference the freedom of everyone, before your religious/spiritual beliefs?

Does Liberty require a secular governance of a nation, to ensure the freedom of religion?

Or should Liberty take a back seat if it means tolerating things that go against your religion?

You post/ask as if you've never read and/or understood the United States Constitution.

Why do you propose that liberty and "religion" are separate ideas/protections? Who has advanced such a cleaver prior to you?

  6. It is sad that so many Americans will first denounce people who are rich and then turn around and denounce those who are poor.

Why is it sad, and who is doing that?

    denounce people who are rich

Only the poor, envious and socialist folk espouse such ignorant denouncements. For different reasons, perhaps.

then turn around and denounce those who are poor

Who does that? Cite examples, please......

  7. I am so glad that you are always here to put us in our place. But...Happy Thanksgiving everyone...

Sarcasm on Thanksgiving....I feel your love, as always.... (I'm guilty of the same, just for the record...)

But let's address your point.... with WHAT, exactly, do you disagree or not understand about my post?? These hollow drive by posts, such as yours, do nothing to advance the discussion or help inform anyone. Please be specific.

I almost hit "post" before I realized something..... you honestly think in controlling and intolerant terms such as "putting you in your place?" Really? Are you so blind as to not be able to glean wisdom and rationality from my posts? Or debate the same? If not, you prove my point....we are doomed by the ignorant and the drones. Please prove me wrong, as I struggle to find a happy path on this Thanksgiving morning....

  8. A BIG THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO ALL MY FELLOW SWIMMERS HERE FOR SHARING THOUGHTS, AND PUTTIN' UP WITH MINE.

****A SPECIAL THANKS TO THE CREATORS AND MAINTAINERS OF THIS ULC SITE!****

    NAMASTE

Most people don't even know the meaning of Thanksgiving (and you would be surprised at the capticalistic origin of this holiday) ......it certainly has nothing to do with this forum, as you suggest in your heartfelt expression (which I share).

    But....Happy Thanksgiving everyone....

  9. I would also like a definition of violence.

\Pacifism is the renunciation of the use of physical violence as a problem-solving tool.

It would be antithetical to my nature to be anything else. It is a mistake to consider what is unusual to be unnatural. In nature, what is usual today is not usual tomorrow, because what is effective in today's environment is not effective in tomorrow's. If we do not do things that we have not done before -if we do not do things that no other animal has done before- we will not survive as a species. That is not meant to suggest that pacifism is necessary to prevent extinction, of course. Merely to point out a flaw in your reasoning...

ALL animals live in a world unlike yours, it seems....

And isn't this FACT descriptive of what is happening in the world??

  10. I have just read a comment in the UK's Daily Telegraph :_ http://blogs.telegra...-right-is-dead/

I have to admit being a liberal Christian the religious right wing has scared me in more ways than one and there is no doubt that what goes on in the US has an influence in the UK. I admit I would be pleased to see the religious right wing go. That is not because I am against religion but because so many aspects of the religious right wing are anti so many things that I personally support.

    Such as:-

    Evolution being taught in schools.

    A health service for everyone.

    Gay Marriage.

Respect for other faiths and none faiths.

Recognition that atheists can also be moral citizens and just because your religious does not make you also moral.

The right to question the bible, the church or the government without others complaining that your some how against God for doing so.

    etc etc

What I want to know is do members believe it is true that the religious right wing is dying?

What a crock of bull feathers (ToS is so confining, isn't it??). The "religions right" had NOTHING TO DO WITH America's choice to go down a failed path, and defines NOT AT ALL the national conservative platform. Religion is NOT important to major American concerns other than the fact that religion is driving anti-American motives. Please tell me you understand the reality of the major, driving issues in America..?

  11. What is mankind's greatest achievement?

Freedom..... Which is ironic, given that we've spent most of our modern history evolving away from nature. So while we are less free than the animals in the natural world (the rest of the animal kingdom), we still have our fabricated stucture of freedom sustained by social contracts such as the U.S. Constitution. What could man have possibly created that could be more liberating (and thus creative, driven, productive, etc) than a {mostly} free society?? Everything else great can have its roots traced to the freedoms contrived by {some of} mankind.

  12. Another thing that might be worth mentioning....

The forum sections dedicated to "discussion of things of concern or import to ULC members or affiliates" seem to currently be outnumbered by the forum sections dedicated to "the few posts that were not really related to the purpose of this forum". Is this just a case where policy hasn't caught up with a change in philosophy? Or did it sort of happen without anyone realizing that it happened?

In the free market of ideas, the most popular get the market share. I always enjoy assuming that management adopted this Laissez-faire philosophy to see where the people wanted to go.

  13. I am not a worm.

now Happy, what does this mean? are you calling your erstwhile friend grateful and others ..... worms? (or did I miss something?)

A worm is what I think of when I think of a pacifist. But Verisoph below refines the term a bit, forcing me to be more specific as well.

Further, if you're going to bring evolution into the picture, you're wrong. A creature that will not kill any other creature is exactly what evolution has created ... through survival. Being something that doesn't kill is what survives best.

So, you come to this forum from another universe? :shades2: In mine, virtually all life is ready and capable of defending itself from harm or death regardless of the threat, which in life happens as a course of nature.

Nonsense! Sparrows kill all sorts fo creatures, but they do not kill other sparrows, Bees will try to kill creatures that threaten their hive, even commiting suicide in the process. But, they do not kill other bees of their type. This is how most creatures behave. Have you ever heard of a cat bringing a dead cat home to it's owner.

Cats kill each other all over the world every day.

But lets focus like a laser beam for a moment. Let's agree that a term like "pacifist" can only apply to a predator who has decided not to prey on one's own species no matter what the circumstances. So, examples like birds and bees and worms are silly......they are not predators. Otherwise, we'd soon be talking about the consciousness of grass and then nestingwave will come in with all sorts of 'evidence' and..... :clown:

  14. Live forever?

I think this is the question?

No, I would not want to live as described with avatars. Then again, if I were to die otherwise, how could I refuse?

But simply to live forever as a human animal, yes, I think I would rather do that than to die. I love life that much.

The ethical issue, perhaps one of several, is that if everyone could "live forever" in the flesh, our population would grow exponentially and would quickly be unsustainable and catastrophic. Death allows for life.

  15. Which is why I am sadden when I see pagan and "unpopular" Christian (ie the non universal kombaya type) leave the forum. We, in my sole opinion as a fellow member of the site, as members have become a bit of a mutual admiration society where everyone has to say "I agree" or "me too" and those individuals that fall outside of that group feel they don't belong here and leave or just don't post.

This isn't an admin issue or a mod issue. It is a member issue. Are you tolerant of others beliefs that are contradictory to your own? Can you discuss your beliefs and have someone point out an inconsistency without blowing up and reporting the person for "attacking" you and your beliefs?

There was a time several years ago that was possible, people didnt have to walk on eggshells and could discuss AND debate beliefs without anyone throwing a hissy fit and taking all thier marbles and going home. During that time we had upwards of 50 ACTIVE users with another score of pop ins.

Again, this is a member issue not an Admin/Mod issue.

I think this is a very large part of it, for sure!

  16. So, what's man's prob?

The "problem" is all in the eyes of the beholder.

I'm hesitant to use your word evil, but as I do, understand that I may mean something slightly different.

Progressives will tell you man is mostly evil and thus must inevitably be controlled. There can ultimately be no private winners....and thus fairness is "achieved" and defined as forced, and of course false, equality.

Conservatives will tell you man is no angel, but nevertheless on the whole is inherently good; and as such requires a minimal social construct as a sheild and at the same time the freedom to pursue our own individual happiness.....win or lose, equal only in the sense as it pertains to the application of just law.

Oh, and other things, too... :shades2:
