  1. Since Jesus spoke the words in the new testament, he has died, raised, and been seated on his throne.

According Ephesians 1 and 2 we are seated with him and he has delegated kingdom power to his body which is us.

This means that some things in the future tense when Jesus spoke them are now past tense to us.

Considering these things, the message of Matthew 16:19 to us today is:

"I have given you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. What is allowed in heaven, allow on earth. What is not allowed in heaven, do not allow on earth."

Satan will try to snatch that out of your heart and ask you: "Did Jesus really say that?"

Remember, the serpent in like manner asked Eve: "Did God really say that?"

    Stand, stand firm, stand therefore.......

  2. lol...........

Hey, you know where this is headed. Why dont we just agree to disagree.

But if you are interested in seeing it, it can happen, but it would require submitting to the Lordship of Jesus Christ and citizenship in his Kingdom. You wont see it any other way.

    Respectfully.

The Horizon Bible College (Calvary Chapel) that I went to, taught us that regarding this verse we need to resolve within ourselves how we are going to explain this verse. The professor's position was that the "Kingdom of God" is talking about the millenial reign of Christ and since that did not occur during thier lifetime it could undermine the authority of Scripture.

    What say you?

  4. Its breakthrough time.

These are straight out of Ephesians. Im thinking continuous daily for 30 days.....anybody in?

"I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father,  would give me a spirit of wisdom and revelation  in the knowledge of Him. I pray that the perception of my mind  may be enlightened so I may know what is the hope of His calling,  what are the glorious riches of His inheritance among the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of His power."

"I pray that He may grant me, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power in the inner man through His Spirit, and that the Messiah may dwell in my heart through faith. I pray that I, being rooted and firmly established in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the length and width, height and depth of God’s love,  and to know the Messiah’s love that surpasses knowledge, so I may be filled with all the fullness of God."

  5. Recently found and bought one of these. Aramaic, Greek, and English New Testament. Very cool because it has the aramaic in two fonts: aramaic, and hebrew.

The intro has a lot of "straightening of facts" regarding aramaic new testament versions: pe**ta, pe**to, and old syriac.

My professors have all maintained the greek nt primacy and shut me down with arguments that appear to be referring to "old syriac", even though i was talking specifically about "pe**ta". Maybe they were unaware.

Interesting about pe**ta is that it could possibly be the orginal dating back to the immediate time of the events. Bart Ehrman and others have said that the earliest accounts werent written for 30 to 60 years after the events which would be false if pe**ta is what they are saying it is.

Very convincing evidence on different ways aramaic words can be translated account for almost all of the greek manuscript variants.

  6. Continue on to 5 and 6 in Romans 7 and you see the death analogy. The husband dies and the wife is no longer bound to the husband, we die we are no longer bound to the law. Jesus preached about the Kingdom of Heaven and we can be citizens in that Kingdom not only later but right now, if we die to ourselves and live for/with him. This citizenship has a new authority, new ability, and new required attitude and behavior than the requirements of the old covenant. Through Jesus the law is fulfilled and expanded, see the Sermon on the Mount. The new commandment Jesus gave simplifies and summarizes 6 of the 10 commandments and takes it from a list of "not to dos" to a "do this instead" and fulfill all those at the same time.

  7. Yosef,

You mentioned Luke but quoted John, I assume your historicity concerns are with John?

Regardless, the passage you quoted John 14:12 I believe it means exactly what it says. I don't think the achievements of man were what he was talking about; although all skill, knowledge, wisdom, and understanding is attributed to and comes from God according to the Bible.

Also "in my name" (en tow onomati mou) is not a phrase that is looking for opportunity to share the source of this power with mankind.

So, besides the 7 "I am" (egow hyumee) statements in John, there were 7 signs:

    1) Turned water into wine (2:1-11)

    2) Healing (4:46-54)

    3) Healing (5:1-18)

    4) Feeding (6:1-14)

    5) Walking on water (6:15-25)

    6) Healing (9:1-41)

    7) Raising dead (11:1-46)

....which were shared by John with the intent that the readers would...." come to believe  that Jesus is the Messiah,  the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name". (John 20:31 NRSV). There we are with the name again.

Where as my opinion that the skills, knowledge, wherewithal, etc. that mankind has gained is directly from Jesus, it is also my opinion that this passage is talking specifically about the 7 signs in John's gospel are the "works" (ta erga) that he was talking about that "those who believe" will do, and greater.

  8. .......asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of God’s will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, 10 so that you may lead lives worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him, as you bear fruit in every good work and as you grow in the knowledge of God. 11 May you be made strong with all the strength that comes from his glorious power, and may you be prepared to endure everything with patience, while joyfully 12 giving thanks to the Father, who has enabled you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the light.

Your quote?  But you will receive power when... I asked if power was necessary.

It says "when the Holy Spirit comes upon you", "you will receive power"...."and be my witnesses". And you ask, "is power necessary?"

Yes, power is necessary; specifically ability and authority.

  10. I think in 2 minutes or less,  these 3 summarize the who-what-when-how-why of Biblical Christianity.

    1) Revelation 20:11–14 (NRSV): 11 Then I saw a great white throne and the one who sat on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Also another book was opened, the book of life. And the dead were judged according to their works, as recorded in the books. 13 And the sea gave up the dead that were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and all were judged according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire; 15 and anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

    2) Romans 10:8–10 (NRSV): 8 But what does it say? “The word is near you,
on your lips and in your heart”
(that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.

    3) Ephesians 2:8–9 (NRSV): 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— 9 not the result of works, so that no one may boast.

Interested in feedback on whether these 3 cover the who-what-when-where-how-why of Biblical Christianity.
