I have no idea why you are trying to make me take a side in your argument against inerrancy. You first had an issue because you said I believed in inerrancy. Now you are saying that I do not believe in inerrancy. All I said was that I do not argue for biblical inerrancy.
Inerrancy is a 'sucker bet' concocted by enlightenment thinkers in order to promote a liberal view of Scripture. It is taking the wrong approach altogether because it requires natural analysis of a supernatural document. Men do not know enough about the supernatural to evaluate it inductively or deductively.
Would you call a plumber to install an electrical circuit? Would you call a painter to install solar panels? Then why would you evaluate the supernatural according to natural standards?
Naturalists criticize things that do not conform to their rules, even though in this case they are talking about the supernatural. It seems to me that the only intelligent response to nonsense like this would be: “Duh.”
now, see... this is where I get off the fundamental bus....
" It is taking the wrong approach altogether because it requires natural analysis of a supernatural document. "
bull- oney.....
when as a child I asked the pentacostal minister what had him so upset ( after a sunday school class ) and described his energy to him - he actually shouted Satan out of me...... or so he said as i was rubbing my ears....
There are those among us who could answer many questions....
But a certain text loudly disclaims any such knowledge...
I've been following along this thread, and I have gone through a lot of emotions along the way...
I don't want to point at anything else specifically, but I do want to say...
Threads like this one are very revealing, and beneficial...
The range and fluctuations of belief displayed are interesting to say the least...
I have been very outspoken against inerrancy, but I probably will be much less so...
I'm beginning to have a new understanding on this subject...
I have said before, I believe each of us is destined for the same ultimate destination. To get there however, we will each travel an independant path. This, IMO, leads for a wide range of " exactly right " for all the participants in the drama. Meaning we may all fully believe different things - and those things may BE exactly right for us - but this, again IMO, Is exactly the right formula for the experiences we crave to come about. This IS the purpose.
For those star trek fans out there - we are in an infinite holodeck, creating our Truth as we go.. to bring it home as a gift to ourselves... to fulfill our purpose.
It is our differences which make the world go round.
The more homogenous we become - the closer we get to Godhead. whatever that means on the next octave... we'll understand when we get there... lol
Thanks to CoolHand for his rock steady devotion - you have the strong energy of one who has found a truth..

A Momentary Grace
by Brother Michael
------------------
Though I feel those Passions stirring,
whispering from the dark, inferring -
that since I know this soul so well,
I must insist to desist somehow.
My Heart is ever Weary,while
my eyes have gone all bleary,
and I Long for just one
somewhat subtle Touch.
A familiar, brief, but lingering touch,
that calms the soul who's seen too much,
and suffers for the suffering
It once bore.
That touch which draws the attention to
The Moment - not the Moment's due.
The slick and slithering
Calm before the Storm.
That Moment when the walls could fall,
"I see the wolves, and damn them all"
That Moment which is
Harbinger of Change.
Yes, I feel those Passions stirring,
whispering from the dark - inferring
And i'm SO aware that in a Moment's
Choice is Fate.
Fate would have me travelling on,
an endless string of Dusk til Dawn,
Living life with Blindness
as my guide.
I must be the Pilot here, for
There's noone else who "gets" my weird,
There's noone else who can lead me
To my Home.
Because I feel those Passions stirring,
I'm aware of Live's recurring,
And I understand the WHY
Behind my HOW.
Yet I long for another Touch
within That Moment.....
this one's a bit greasy folks.... hope you like it...

I find it interesting that "savedinchrist" has everyone here responding to each other.
But where has the originator of the thread been since?
apparently they've been out Turnig Witches To Christ..... must be a tiresome, thankless job....

I've dealt with a few people who wish to make light of my ordination.... they usually bow out of the ensuing conversation ... I WILL use the opportunity to educate a heckler in a few basic facts... some folks will come back to me at a later time to ask a few more questions.... ( these are local folks that i see on a regular basis, not referring to the ignorant folks with social tourette's - those i smile at and ignore.... )

I like it!
thank you. -

Thanks for your honest reply. If the OBE book you suggested, and Urantia, work for you, and you feel it is helping you make progress in the right direction, that's all that matters.
Perhaps you'd like to share one of your OBE experiences that was of a spiritual nature, and one that presented difficulties for you during your learning journeys. Don't worry that others may or may not have had experiences of there own. I believe the majority of participants in this forum are familiar with what OBE is about in one way or another. After I read one of your shared choice experience, I will be happy to share one of my own as well. Perhaps some of our participants may wish to share some of there own with our spiritual brothers and sisters here.
I will do just that, however we have a thread which would be more appropriate...
ULC Online Forum> News, Arts & Entertainment> Off Topic Area-best astral projection technique ..... maybe I'll start one that is easier to find.... how about ULC Online Forum> A Universal Life Roundtable> Universal Beliefs and Thoughts - Out of Body Experiences ?? ok?

Hello Brother Michael Sky,
Many years ago, before the ULC website was revised and all posts were lost, I had a topic thread on OBE that became quite long. Have you per chance ever experienced OBE yourself by any chance?
I'm supposing you've already read the book you recommend above; I haven't, because the best books on the topic have already been written in the past but are not on the market anymore, except for that of Robert Monroe's "Journeys Out of the Body" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Monroe ).
What do you think about the possibility of OBE? And in what way do you believe "all this might just possibly interrelate?"
Expand on this for conversation purposes so that some of us can share our thoughts and perhaps our personal experiences with such activities as OBE.
The reason I recommended this particular book is because the observations he makes mesh pretty good with my personal understanding ( and actually this book has a few really good ideas which have helped me). I am almost positive I have read the titles you refer to, however Mr. Monroe's material ( though I am sure it is very beneficial to some ) does not match with my needs.
Yes, I am an active explorer in OOBE's... I started having spontaneous OOBE's when I was a child, and didn't know what i was up to until I was 15 years old or so. At which time I started having issues with what i was learning and avoided the circumstances which allowed OOBE's to happen. Years and years of hedonistic activity later, I became disenchanted with the lifestyle I had built, and made a conscious decision to return to the simplicity and ease of my former mindset... As a result, I believe, of my honest desire to change, and the drive I felt to improve myself, my spontaneous OOBE's started happening again...
I recommend the book because the tricks and tips he presents can truly make the experience much, much more understandable and beneficial. Very, very simple techniques that I never figured out in all my experiences... I was wasting the time I had in OOBE's and did not know it..... I had been using the most fulfilling, most question-answering, most glorious experiences in my life as a simple mental retreat.... Felt, and still feel pretty dense...
... but as the poet of Excelsior ( Macedonski ) said " onwards and upwards ".... guilt is wasted, i've changed my ways...How it relates : I remember SO many quotes from religious and spiritual sources which have some sort of reference to ' being in the spirit '. after my first FULLY conscious experience in OOBE I had no doubt that this is what they were referring to. A CONSCIOUS OOBE gives the traveller the ability to have an experience which imparts the surety of a personal experience to understand spiritual ideas. the Proof is in the pudding, as they say, and this is the ONLY method which has brought me Surety.... My doubts on certain subject have completely fallen away.... This is something I feel the NEED to share, and it is difficult at times to remember that what seems a " no-brainer" to me, is a foreign and frequently distasteful idea to some.....
With my experiences in OOBE's, I see what appears to me as the source of the information in the UB. Remembering that individuals translate experiences in a unique way, I take the general Outline of the book, and see many, many corelations with what I have experienced. And we do seem to have the ability to understand a much greater range of Reality from outside the body.... seek for answers and - taa daaaa - there they are.... just gotta really work on the proper understanding aspect.......

try the last one i posted.... give it the ol' thirty day try.....

Here's one to add to the reading list. Adventures Beyond the Body I believe, personally, that the " how " of all this might just possibly interrelate...
-
thats the official story anyway... I've always taken the book at face value and really could care less about anyone's story about it... a work like this is bound to draw a little mysticism out of the air....

Brother Michael Sky,
I know of the website you suggest above. Was there anything in particular you wanted me to check out for discussion purposes?
There is also "The Urantia Book Fellowship": http://www.truthbook.com/index.cfm?linkID=13
Also: "The Urantia Book online: http://urantiabook.org/newbook/papers/index.html , and various other sources.
um, yeah...... the origin of the Urantia Book...... no biggie.....
It's not that no one knows who wrote it, it was a series of questions asked a man who would go into a trance ( like the late Edgar Cayce ). This man swore he was a Great Messenger.
and actually it's more complicated... they could never catch him writing... the pages seemed to appear... the fellow relating the story mentions a pencil moving of it's own volition...( and i didn't really wanna have to say that..
) ...it was compiled after years of questions chosen by a " forum " of folks who met together. and the fellow who went into the trance swore all the members to secrecy, even the man who commissioned the last of the papers... He didn't want to ruin his privacy. The group chose to publish the material because they saw value in it. It cost money to print.you can answer pretty much whatever you'd like to know about the book there....

hey Vortex, try checking out the truthbook wesite linked on the last page... you may enjoy it..

Rememberance Sunday in the UK is on the 11th day of the 11th month and there is a special time of silence at 11:00. Canada's is on the same day, as it is a Commonwealth Holiday.

I usually forget that that the U.S has theirs on a different day.

Are Poppies significant for you folks?
I have bought hundreds of poppies ( paper ones on wire with a little tag ) from the American Legion Auxiliary... and Poppy Day is May 31.....

I would have to answer from the perspective of Pantheism: God is everything and everything is God.
Look at the Universe. That is the face of God. At least, the manifestation.
Jonathan Lobl

and considering the hologram theory.... the mirror shows him too....
I believe the face of God is gradually revealed as we complete our soul's course... and even at the stage we are at now, I believe it's there if you are looking...

I believe you are referring to crystal ( singing ) bowls...? I have had rather profound experiences with them as well.... and there are a few rather rude side effects of playing with the chakras, huh? from gastointestinal problems to psychosis...... care is advised.....
not a joke....
-
Brother Sky,
I sure agree. Our environment and our well being go hand in hand.
Here is an interesting thing (that you too Salem will certainly resonate with.) My friend Michael, who is now doing a music/art/speaking tour from city to city, sent me an email today and said that whereever he is each day he spends some time with his BARE FEET in direct contact with Mother Earth. This, I think, is essential for anyone's attunement which includes physical, mental and spiritual. We who live so much indoors (as urban cave hermits) can forget about this. In fact, I am going out right now to stand barefooted in the yard.

namaste
I will at times lay back on the grass, to ground from the Sacral chakra... I feel a much stronger ground that way and folks don't think I'm strange ( well, any more so anyway...
) standing around with my eyes closed....not sure how to explain this, but i went to a meditation concerning chakras.the gentlemen leading it had 7 bowls, each representing the different chakras.to make a long story real short,it was the quietest my monkey mind has been in a very long time.it also opened up some experiences for me i was not expecting.
to say it changed some aspects of my environment would be an understatement.however,it has nothing to do with spirituality for me.
I believe you are referring to crystal ( singing ) bowls...? I have had rather profound experiences with them as well.... and there are a few rather rude side effects of playing with the chakras, huh? from gastointestinal problems to psychosis...... care is advised.....

Very much so! I'm especially in love with the imagery in your 6th line. Impressive! You seem to have a firm grasp in the fundamentals of poetry, obviously you write a bit. Do you have a writer's blog?
LeRoy James
No, I write for myself. To allow certain thoughts out, if you will... I have been published in varied places, only because my family will submit things they are particularly fond of... I've never tried to publish anything...
Sometimes however, amongst the stacks of poetry I have, something will call to me... I'll drag them out and show a few people... but usually I write something, show a few people, and in the stacks it goes.....
I am aware of the guidelines for poetry.... I have indeed studied the process of writing poetry.... however, my poetry does not come to me in classical forms. I receive my inspiration in a stream of thought and seldom make changes... I usually have a thought which i must capture to be free of the compulsion... once it's released, I can go back to other things...
Thank you for your appreciation, I still don't honestly know why I feel compelled to share certain of my poems, but appreciation is nice....

Liberal Christianity 2
in Stories & Texts Archive
Posted
I would say that everyone on the planet since the Bestowal of the Christ Spirit was a Christian effectively....
Since it WAS a bestowal to all who take bodies from that point on...
I don't believe Jesus had to die for our sins....
I don't believe in a virgin birth...
and I most importantly do not believe in any type of imposed Hell whatsoever....
or judgement other than self-imposed...
am I still a liberal Christian? I do believe that Jesus played a very crucial role in the " salvation " of my soul ( I would call it " development " ) and I do recognize the bestowal of the Christ Spirit to be inextricably linked with Jesus's last incarnation.... ( y'all know I'm using that name for clarity )
so am i a liberal christian?
