  1. The courts have repeatedly ruled that atheism and other forms of non-belief have the same legal protections as a religion.

As for tolerance... The need to tolerate gays didn't show up on most people's radar until there were enough empty closets.

Indeed...I'm most concerned about a "reverse discrimination' effect, as we see in the past "liberating" certain groups did not lead to peace and understanding.

  2. Hi there, I'm probably going to do a wedding in Worcester County MD (near Salisbury). I called the county clerk to find out the requirements to do a wedding there, and she said you have to be an ordained priest or minister. OK! No problem! I dug a little further to make sure ULC ministers are ok, and she had no idea. Soooo should I take her word for it or should I dig somewhere else and if so, where?

I'd love to get a "regular" ordination through Cherry Hill Seminary or somesuch, but this is a shorter term thing.

    Any advice?

I did a wedding in Wicomico county, right next door. My ministry is based in Baltimore, but I was asked to do the wedding so I obliged. The couple gets the papers from the clerk. Where it asks for "name of domination or religious organization" put down "Universal Life Church". For the church location, put down your address. You will be given a paper by the county clerk validating the marriage which you must keep on file at your location. At least thats how it worked for me, but then I do have an established ministry in Baltimore.

If you don't already have one, get a file cabinet. :)

fax machine is a good idea too.

  3. I was thinking more along the lines of ruling the way a king rules, that is, commanding something to perform to the limits of it's ability. You could place a guitar on a stand and command it to be still, and in essence, you've ruled it.

Some might interpret "ruling an instrument" as mastering the ability to play it. Unfortunately, it takes a bit more than three simple lessons to rule an instrument in that manner.

Or in this manner (which is that manner): Django Reinhardt NYC Festival 2004 - Sweet Georgia Brown

there was an advertisement embedded in the video, when you first posted the song "Capricho Arabe", that claimed to teach me to "rule the neck" instantly, with three simple secrets. Obviously this is not your site - http://www.guitarcontrol.com/.

three simple things I have learned...hmm...one would be arpeggios, also drop tuning, and big speakers..also callouses, you'll need those..

  4. The above vers was for Tabby... Who, apparently (unbeknown to me) I am breaking up with (again)

The below, and more serous vers, is for all those who have gone on, before me..

For my beloved wife, Guyama, who died of kidney and heart failure...

For my beloved Sheila, who killed herself....

For my beloved Karen who was beaten to death in Richmond...

For my beloved Wanda who drank herself to death...

All of you touched me in deeper ways then you could ever have known while you lived..... All of you... Each of you... Are still very much loved, and very, very much missed...

  5. To all:

Our residence (which is, I guess, now a church) doesn’t have a single gun.

Having said that, I should point out that we are not unarmed. We have a large collection (all working) of bows, swords, slings, axes, knives, and razor sharp hunting arrows. We used to have a compound crossbow, but that was stolen out of the storage space we used to have (it was among three rooms filled with antiques, and they [whomever] simply stole everything on that floor of the storage facility. We were simply caught in the fall out).

My wife and I were once members of a medieval reenactment group; we were both fighters. The sharp stuff is mostly for collecting, but I don’t “believe” in fake weaponry, unless it’s part of a costume.

On top of that, we also have fencing foils, fencing masks (2), wooden swords (bokan/Japanese), and a large collection of books. Why? Well, I actually think that the greatest weapon any person has is their brain… and I haven’t stopped learning yet (the day I do is when I lay down, pull a rock onto my hole, and give up).

So: I suppose we’re a church with an armory (but I don’t really think the BATF is all that concerned…. Yet.

I'm sure the word "armory" predates the modern firearm.

  6. There is one theory that has been put forth that Moses was a very good strategist. It states that he took the curious route that he did in order to have time to train his troops so that they would be ready for the fierce battles that would lie ahead.

If they would have directly tried to cross into the Canaanite fortified city-states they would have been easily defeated. 40 years was the time it took for them to arm themselves sufficiently and train a large enough force to get the job done.

The weaponry methods and strategies they learned from the Egyptians gave them an advantage as well.

they were supposed to be on their way to the promised land; a land flowing with milk and honey, so why not just dodge those cities? God never has made sense to me, he gets talented people to build the tower of babble and then confounds them all, he brings his own son into the world and then kills him, he promises to be right back, and then disappears..and the band played on.....

  7. In this day and age, if I were a religious organization, I would not entertain the idea of firearms beinig a part of the organization. Just too much can be taken in the wrong perception. I don't understand even why you have asked the question; are you trying to put together a summer church retreat for men? Were you thinking of some way of using the donated guns for the church retreat?

It was always a hypothitical question; since we are not incorporated at this time. I was thinking more along the lines of day trips or weekend camping trips. But I just don't see how to do it without gettting Janet Reno on my ass. I do think is is kind of wrong for the feds to bully a group into not using their constitutional rights.

oh yeah, and the idea of selling some guns to raise money - I thought so too, but alas, Dale will not part with any due to the sentimental value, and he is the legal owner. So I'm putting the lid back on this can of worms, even if a few did get away. I'm thinking I might want to distance ourselves from that property.

  8. everything is in private ownership, no guns are in the church's name..nor will they be....I've gathered enough to see that we don't want to go down that road...

doesn't make them go away, just makes them none of our business. I brought the thread up, honestly, because this is about the only place I could think of to discuss ministers with guns..lol...its not your everyday question. I still don't have all the answers as to setting up a real armory, and I'd still love to discuss the subject, but as far as the BUC and ULC are concerened, there are no guns.

  9. well, since we're on the topic of orination I recall a child hood memory...after I had my head trauma I lost some memory but in a weird way I've regained some old memories....anyway, me and my cousin are hiking through the woods behind his parents house and we come upon a newly constructed electric fence...crying out something like " who are you to put up fence to keep us out and keep mother nature in" or words to that effect. He then orinated upon the electric fence...the results were shocking....he's ok, but I don't think he'll ever do that again, nor will I. That was over 25 years ago but if we must talk about orination, that my story. I've never orinated on a flower garden.

  10. DO NOT take them to local LEO, as they won't be destroyed no matter what they tell you, you can legally dispose of them. you can sell them to somebody that will appreciate them. no matter what they are the executor of the estate can dispose of and posses them. i recently had to assist the executor of an estate here in pa who had the local sheriff try to "confiscate" [read steal] some weapons by giving bad advice and unlawful orders to an executor. It took some seriously sharp words to save that situation!

lcal leo's who get this stuff almost always keep it and then consider it free guns or sell them for a profit out the back door to friends! often illegally! cops often don't know anything about firearms law and will get themselves and you into plenty of trouble.

if i can be of assistance you can PM me and get my contact info and i will help you as best i can. at least we can clear up some of your doubts!

thank you, I would rather not go into much more detail publicly.
